Jury selection continues Thursday in the trial of Derek Chauvin | USA TODAY

Jury selection was delayed Monday in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin while an appeal proceeds over the possible reinstatement of a third-degree murder charge.

At the Hennepin County Government Center, National Guard troops stood behind concrete blockades and a gargantuan chain-link fence topped with barbed wire. As jury selection began for Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing Floyd, a handful of protesters gathered across the street, eyes locked on the building as if they could witness the court proceedings from the outside.

  1. Saint George will truly be missed by his drug dealers. He died of fentanyl toxicity & heart disease💯

    1. He died of a terrible man kneeling on his neck. Even if he didn’t the cop still attempted murder of a restrained suspect he knelt on his neck for minutes and Floyd went unconscious. That is a crime cause of death doesn’t matter. So I can just go and kneel on your child’s neck and you’re perfectly fine with that? Good to know.

    1. @wowwt what about the fact that he had his knee there for 8 minutes and 2 more minutes after he was already unconscious even if it’s protocol I am pretty sure protocol does not include have your knee there after a person is becoming unconscious and as you can see that protocol isn’t very good cops are going to deal with drug users people with asthma or any other conditions so protocol oh having your knee on someone’s neck obviously didn’t work here and protocol apparently was not good enough at teach cops when to make sure someone is breathing and not dying on them.

  2. 3rd degree murder? Not stating any opinon on what’s justified here… but if u shoot to prosecute for murder and get this.. hes prob just gonna get sentenced like 6 months and get released before he changes jumpsuits due to “covid worries” at this point. This is just theater to do nothing to please one side and say “well we tried right?” Noice work guys

    1. @dream that wouldn’t matter to Antifa and BLM because they still would threaten jurors serving this case.

  3. DEREK, PRAYING FOR YOU. THIS WAS A HORRIBLE SCENE FOR EVERYONE!!!! JESUS IS COMING SOON TO TAKE US OUT OF THIS WORLD……..

    1. @dream I’m guessing you have not heard about the mercy of God toward sinners like me and you. God says, “For ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, AND THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.” SO, DEREK IS A SINNER. HE MADE A POOR CHOICE. GEORGE WAS HIGH ON DRUGS, NOT SUBMITTING TO AUTHORITY. POOR CHOICES WERE MADE ON BOTH SIDES. DEREK AND GEORGE WERE BOTH BOUNCERS AT THE SAME CLUB. BOTH STRONG. WE HUMANS CAN’T SEE THE WHOLE STORY. IT WAS TRAGIC. BUT IF WE SINNERS BELIEVE JESUS CHRIST IS GOD, WHO WAS BORN IN HUMAN FLESH, HE LIVED THE PERFECT SINLESS LIFE, AND HE WILLINGLY DIED A HORRIBLE VIOLENT DEATH BEING NAILED TO THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS PUNISHMENT, HE WAS BURIED, AND ROSE ALIVE FROM THE DEAD. THEN, YOU TOO CAN BE FORGIVEN. A L L YOUR SINS!!! JESUS IS THE ONLY SAVIOR OF THIS FALLEN WORLD. HE CAME TO SET US CAPTIVES FREE FROM SINS POWER, FREE FROM GOD’S CONDEMNATION IN ETERNAL PUNISHMENT IN HELL. ALL BY GOD’S GRACE, MERCY, AND KINDNESS, THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS DEATH ON YOUR BEHALF. SO, REPENT OF YOUR SINS, CALL OUT TO JESUS TO SAVE YOU TODAY, WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME, RECEIVE HIM INTO YOUR LIFE AS SAVIOR AND LORD. I DID. NOW, I CAN BE MERCIFUL TOWARDS YOU,,,,, AND OTHERS WHO SIN,,, AND PERHAPS YOU WILL ALSO BE ADOPTED INTO GOD’S ETERNAL FAMILY, BE FORGIVEN, HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, THE HOPE OF HEAVEN. TRULY, Carol, the old Baptist woman of God

  4. If the defense does their job, they’ll be able to easily show the following:
    (a) Floyd died from a combination of drugs and heart problems.
    (b) Floyd would have died that day, even if he had just stayed home
    (c) Chauvin restrained Floyd the way all Minneapolis cops are trained to restrain violent suspects.
    (d) There was no evidence, that Chauvin treated black people any different that white people.
