They had to. Voting is controlled by state rules. Federal government has very little, constitutionally, to do with it. Same thing with states that refuse to run primaries when there are challengers in GOP against Trump.
@LW Riker The Supreme Court does have authority over lawsuits appealed to their level. Gerrymandering, voter purges, and other forms of voter suppression, especially in elections of candidates for federal office, _should_ be heard by the SC, as has happened in the past. But this court, in a predictable 5-4 ruling, chose not to hear the case about voter purging in Ohio.
Gorsuch knows full well that these forms of voter suppression in Republican-controlled states are aimed at minorities and young voters — most of whom vote Democratic. His excruciatingly evasive responses to such questions during his confirmation hearing were just like his persistent evasiveness in this video about Trump’s attacks on Obama-appointed judges. Gorsuch doesn’t give a crap about the Constitution or people’s right to vote. He is intensely partisan, a discredit to the SC, an enemy of democracy, and a right-wing, super-corporatist, political hack. He will rule _every time_ for whatever further enriches the already-rich and further empowers the already-powerful, no matter how corrupt they may be. That’s WHY Trump nominated him!
I’ll _bet_ somebody’s been paying off this silver-tongued bastard, and I hope to hell he gets caught. IMO, he’s as destructive, self-serving, immoral, and downright despicable as Scott Pruitt — just better at getting away with it.
