the U.S. makes up 4.25% of the world’s population, but as of yesterday has had over 30% of the deaths attributable to the virus. and we had fair warning too. according to those stats the government’s response could not have been worse.
I agree; but just as a technical point, the U.S. has a larger population than most of the countries you are comparing it to here, so a better comparison is deaths per capita. Here the U.S. comes in at about #9, lower than the UK, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, etc. So actually we could have done worse, but surely we could have done much, much better.
