Know Where COVID-19 Is Taking The Most Lives In Your Community | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

Rachel Maddow points out that since the federal government is not doing anything to help prevent the loss of lives at nursing homes and long-term care facilities where the coronavirus is doing the most damage, Americans should make themselves aware on a local level where these facilities are. 1. Republicans are pretty open about having written off anyone old and frail enough to live in a nursing home. They don’t even want to count them as covid deaths, on the grounds that “they were on their last legs anyway”.

    1. @pr0xZen Nope. Not even gonna read your little essay. Theres been dozens of doctors and nurses from New York on the record saying they’re not treating patients properly and are being instructed to put people on ventilators. There’s even been waterd down versions written about this in the media. Look it up

    2. you democrats are so delusional to call every death a covid death just because you still cant handle trump won, pathetic

    3. Stupid Liberals will never learn….

MY MONEY is more important than YOUR LIFE.

      Get it?

      MAGA 2020
      Donald Trump Today
      Donald Trump Tomorrow
      Donald Trump Forever.

    4. @Giovanni Medina Your over the top accusations do not plead in favor of your IQ being assessed as anything above than just average. I’ve seen plenty of footage from NY hospital wards not that they are particularly informative since legal/ethical issues prevent showing patients and corporate PR control clamps down at least as hard to prevent uncomfortable leaks .
It is however discussed amongst doctors that ventilating might be overprescribed and that oxygen plus regular position shifting could yield better results . COVID19 is a new beast and best practices will not emerge with a magical wand waiving, calling health-carers killers is idiotic ignorant thrash talk .

  2. Trump and the Republicans clearly want this virus to continue to spread. They’ve made that obvious. This is their way of cutting Social Security and Medicare.

    1. @claude ghendrih I mean its already been 5 months ! Shouldn’t we be experiencing the apocalypse right now?

    2. @Giovanni Medina Oh now it’s an already old overblown story is it ?
What were you raving about nasty Andrew Cuomo and killing doctors then ?
You’re about as incoherent as Trump is, a decayed callous partisan nonsense spewing hack.

    3. @claude ghendrih Because he is ! Its been 5 months and the rest of America is doing just fine, no hospital collapse, no surge in patients, deaths and cases are going down. Only New York is having a hard time and even at that not 1 hospital ever collapsed and none of the makeshift hospitals were used, or the ships ! Makes sense why Cuomo is sending elders to go infect everyone at the nursing homes he needs justification to get the 120billion bailout hes asking for !

    4. @Giovanni Medina Please keep on exhibiting your callous ignorant hackery for all to see and remember .

    1. @Brendo Xd half of his advice and the other half he told us he wasn’t going to do it

    2. @Arounthone With your way of thinking the world should have kicked our butt for sending out the Spanish flu because it started on a military base in Kansas. It was our fault it spread all over the world

  3. A lot of first responders, nurses, health care staff, paramedics, fire and emergency services have died from Coronavirus as well. A couple of first responders 5 year old daughter caught it from them and died. In times of crisis it’s most people who take the lead not politicians.

    1. Can’t rely on, “government,” that’s for sure. They’re more likely to get you killed. It’s up to us, America. And, maybe we could restore the Republic, come November? . . . That might save lives?

    2. Bono Budju in my town a dentist died, he kept working because he thought CoVid was just drama 😏

    3. @Mathilde Wesendonck It’s unbelievable it’s like they have no eyes or ears and ignore what is going on around them. Good luck to you and your family.

    1. @I’m not depressed No -not ‘resting’ homes but rest homes. Most facilties are called retirement villages but as people require more care they are called rest home facilities, no different to nursing care to be honest. It is simply a point where a person needs a little more help and can have rest from doing everything for themselves – how does that differ from a ‘nursing’ home? It is simply a matter of symantics.

    2. Fellow Kiwi here and yes it is incredibly sad how many of our deaths have been from rest homes. My 94 year old aunt passed away just on a year ago and I have grieved for her but I have been grateful she hasn’t had to go through this time where I would not have been able to visit her every day and she may have had trouble understanding why not. I personally take some comfort in that but am aware that there may be so many of our dear elderly who are suffering in many ways through this time. Kia kaha.

  4. She’s right most vulnerable are the first ones to be protected.stay strong people, it’s not going away very soon.

    1. TheTruthIsRacist It’s not a hoax. My daughter and I both had it. It’s not a freaking hoax. It’s like drowning, only you’re not under water.

  5. Rest in peace I just found out my mom’s cousin died in a nursing home in the UK. I never knu she was sick. Suddenly dead from covid19.

    1. @raul ruiz yeah raul, nobody told me she was sick. Just, “yeah she was sick and she died from covid19.” Thanks for the kind comments. Kat m, thnx for all u do. Wish I lived there and said stay with me until it passes but I’m in the usa. It’s just sad but I feel 4the ppl losing moms n dads and the ppl who r suffering and cannot breathe while everybody else is as angry they can’t go back to work. Things r tuff all over.

    2. @Perry Walton so healthy people are put into nursing homes ?
Deal with the truth. The china virus is over exaggerated.

    1. Tyrants get the rope.

Force the lazy welfare scum Liberals back to work.

      MAGA 2020
Vote straight Republican and Crush Commie Liberalism once and for all.

    2. Vendicar Kahn ,
You are sooooo Ignorant and Prejudice.
I use to be a case worker at welfare and more Republicans ( white people) are on welfare than Democrats, or any other culture.
      Get your facts straight!!!
Oh your a trump supporter 🙄

    1. Why hasn’t anyone in our government died yet? It’s a big group of old people, shouldn’t at least one of them caught it?

    2. @Sandy Allen hiding under a rock, self preservation is standard, even in trump’s cronies

  6. I play little concerts with a fellow artist at nursing homes in the parking lots.

Many think of my profession as obsolete. That’s fine. I see the joy on the faces.

    1. Bless you. Your profession is NOT obsolete it feeds our souls and makes us complete. Thank you for your gift.

    2. Artists and musicians may not be deemed “essential” in the same way medical and emergency services staff are, but what is life without the arts? Thank you for making life worthwhile for those who need it most.

    1. Jade Costello Yes, but they are single digits in the days they are being lost, they aren’t being lost every day, and only two nursing homes in the nation are affected. The US cannot be compared to our response and results. They are in a world of trouble with no decent leadership.

    2. @Brendan Yusof You obviously dont know what premorbid means. Oldies in nursing homes have full blown morbid conditions.

    3. by that you mean there there as a last stop. i understand. BUT what about a younger stronger or older stronger person that might be there as a bridge to getting well? these kind of patients are there too.

    4. Medical Definition of premorbid
: occurring or existing before the occurrence of physical disease or emotional illness
The survivability of any burn is dependent on many factors, including, but not limited to, age, premorbid status, and extent and depth of burn.

  7. Beautiful show of support for nursing homes. So much wisdom stored up in our nursing homes. Blessings on the elder folk🌻

    1. It frightens me to ponder what reality you live in, we lost over 60 residents in our little town. Why, because the director did not test asymptomatic employees. He/She should be terminated without benefits. Any I’m being kind. If they were from another part of the world they’d be stoned to death, that sounds about right, Being stupid isn’t a right.

  8. They are busy joining the demonstration all over for freedom . Some believe when armed with automatic weapons, no virus will dare be near them…

    1. @Fiona Animates, it’s been several years since I worked in that field. Do you have any type of PPE, other than gloves?
I’m just wondering the wassup for the nowadays. Ha. That sounds like something an old person would say! I am!
      Stay safe!

    2. Maggie Rezac we wear surgical masks and so do the residents. We’ve been doing that since late March. We wear gloves and change them regularly throughout our shifts. We take our temperature before and after them too. I work in dietary and everyone eats six feet apart and no visitors allowed. We removed tablecloths too. It’s been a roller coaster, but I’m hoping things will get back to normal. Thanks for reading!

    3. @Fiona Animates Excellent, I hadn’t thought about the table cloths! Sounds like your home is on top of things! Thank you for the positive news! Stay safe!

    1. Yeah, he plans to pick the month when the most seniors die in this country, so he’ll announce if after the fact. ; )

    1. You Malthusians have been wrong and wrong and wrong again for the past 200 years. When I was a kid the population was 3 billion and kwashiorkor was a problem. Now the population is 6.5 billion, kwashiorkor is gone, but obesity is the most prevalent form of malnutrition.

  9. “Know Where COVID-19 Is Taking The Most Lives In Your Community” is **not** as helpful as immediately knowing who among us, at any given moment, are unwittingly contagious, in order to convince them to turn around, go home (i.e. no visiting relative(s) in nursing homes), call their doctor, and self-quarantine per their doctor.

  10. People in my community did this same kind of drive through, beeping and waving to at my local VA hospital nursing home. It was so amazing and I know how much they loved it because my husband works there and witnessed it.

  11. No matter how hard things get, there’s always some good news.
