Laurie Garrett: U.S. Does Not Have ‘Any Strategy’ For COVID-19 Testing | The Last Word | MSNBC

Laurie Garrett, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter covering global pandemics, tells Ali Velshi that test results for coronavirus in the U.S. "come too late in the game," hampering efforts to curtail the pandemic. Garrett says testing is "completely random, so when we do get test results it's hard to know what to make of it.” Aired on 7/17/2020.

    1. newmove I read today that due to widespread outcry of the CDC to be omitted from receiving the data, Trump administration walked back on that directive. I didn’t get to read the whole article.

  1. Mary Trump is right. It’s not that t’rump won’t do what it takes to help America, he simply cannot. He’s not wired to think of anyone but himself. And switching to the strategy that Fauci and the experts have been telling us to do all along would be an admission of being wrong. And no body count, 100,000. 200,000. 300,000 will ever be more important that the 1 person he cares about the most: himself.
Great pick there, t’rump supporters! 😆😅

    1. @DATING HARLEY QUINN That makes sense. I’m not a specialist but it is clear to a layperson that the way he acts is not a conscious choice, but a hard-wired defect. So there’s no “one day he’ll change” once it gets serious. 100k, 200k, 300k dead Americans. It’s all the same to him.
Be safe, be well, and thanks for the knowledge! 🙏

    2. @Ro G – Im sorry I cant articulate it any better – its just that its so messed up a normal brain can not understand it. He 100% believes if he does not know about the bad thing, it did not happen. And if he does know about the bad thing – the only reason it is important is cos it made him look bad. And the only reason it happened is cos someone is jealous of his perfection and they are doing it deliberately to make him look bad. So the priorities are.
      1) avoid seeing things that make you look bad
      2) destroy the evil jealous people who force you to look at things that make you look bad
      3) feel good again
And he 100% in the very core of his being thinks that this makes the universe perfect – if he is happy – the universe is happy.

    3. @Ro G – So yeas – 1 million dead people is, to him, someone trying REALLY HARD to make him look bad – it is a motivation to get the person making him look bad. It NEVER enters his head to do something about the 1 million dead people.
He CAN NOT tell the difference between a fake story about 1 million dead and 1 million dead human beings. They are only dead in the context of how they make him look. So he deals with both things exactly that same – as you can clearly see every day.

    1. Sounds exactly the same as Trump’s plan for everything he has faced while in office. One thing I would add to your list is line his pockets with taxpayer money.

    2. …and throughout that claim he’s had the strongest victory over it, like nobody’s ever seen.

  2. I feel like USA should go online and have a fund raiser because the Dumpster is purposely slowing down the testing you need a go fund me seriously

  3. When my roommate was feeling sick. Drove him to urgent care. They rested him. Untill the results came back. We all stayed in and waited. No going out for a week. That’s what civic duty should look like. Or if you do go out wear a mask and be extra careful to limit contact with others.

    1. It takes 7-10 days just for symptoms to onset. Then you are contagious for 14 days. If you are exposed. You need to isolate for at least 3 weeks.

    2. @SAMMY D Mary waited in until the results came back. That happened to take a week. That is both responsible and correct. If her friend’s results came back negative and both she and friend were feeling well then she’s free to get on with life. If they came back positive then yes, her isolation would be extended.

  4. Here’s the sad truth about the Coronavirus. It’s not going to go away. It’s not!🤷‍♂️And there’s several reasons why it’s here to stay.

  5. Does it not bother any American that the impeached president and all his lieing goons are tested everyday and have thier results within minutes??????

  6. The U.S. cannot possibly have a strategy against the virus if we have a “president” and administration who denies its reality one minute and ignores it the next. Trump would like to hide it and focus on his reelection.

  7. In Australian, you get tested with a wait of less than 30 minutes and get results in less th a n 24 hours. Its not hard. This is normal in developed countries other than the US.

    1. Same in NZ, but the USA? well, they need to make sure the cheque doesn’t bounce and the insurance is valid before they even start.

    2. Here in Scotland we had 17 new cases yesterday and no deaths. The wearing of facemasks in shops and public transport is mandatory. I cannot understand the reluctance in some Americans to wear one. It’s such a simple thing to do and If it saves even just one life, surely it’s worth it.

    3. @Lee Simpson Where I live in the United states everyone is wearing a mask indoors at stores, ect. We have very low cases. Some big inner cities are bad because blacks and Hispanics don’t listen so their infection rate is 3 times higher, and young adults don’t care they just want to party. They are the reason for the high infection numbers.

  8. Failed leadership! If trump would have let Dr Fauci do his job, it’d be national stratedgy. Instead of letting each Govenor from states decide.

  9. Governor Hogan, A REPUBLICAN, forced to buy his own test kits from KOREA!!! after lack of federal help.
Donald Trump, it’s time to resign!

    1. Yeah but today in Maryland we discover that Hogan is going with in person voting, not mail in voting. Our Boards of Election in Maryland are struggling to get enough election judges to cover the polling places. I see and hear ads everywhere begging people to volunteer to do this work. Voter suppression? I know so.
He has been on the media circuit promoting a book he wrote. He is positioning himself for bigger and better. Maryland has a lot of Corona Virus and a lot of questions about the tests he procured in South Korea.
I say the Black Lives Matter protests were a sacrifice worthy to be made in the face of the pandemic. The defeat of Trump and every single person in political office who has supported his agenda is imperative. Action – such as volunteering to work for the elections in your communities – is also a sacrifice worth making to insure free and fair elections and the complete defeat of Trump and all of his Republican supporters.
Additionally it is paid, $200.00 plus about $50. for the training time. And you don’t declare it on your income taxes!

  10. yes, the strategy is to ignore it, and cover up the numbers as much as possible, and claim everything is fine.

    1. I prefer the the older terms:
      he’s mad
      he’s a lunatic
      he’s imbecilic,
      a few air-points short of a holiday.

  11. Fauci said the following months ago for this same reason: assume everyone is positive including yourself. mask up and self quarantine and do the social isolation. these are so much easier to do than fighting on a ventilator for your life.
