Confederate flag is not American. The confederates wanted to break up the union… Never was American nor were supporters of the confederacy
At the end of the Civil War, President Lincoln could have had Jefferson Davis, Robert E Lee, all of his generals, and all the leaders of the Confederacy, hung for treason. And if you review history, that’s usually what happens to the side that loses in a civil war. But Lincoln didn’t do that. Instead he had mercy on them, and worked towards peace and reconstruction.
Flying the Confederate rag is a clear statement of contempt for the American flag. Not only does the Confederate flag represent treason, it also represents surrender and defeat. And if slavery is America’s original sin, then the Confederate flag represents the defense of that original sin.

A descendant of Robert E. Lee stepped down as pastor of a small NC church after his comments supporting racial justice sparked a backlash.
The general’s distant nephew, the Rev. Robert W. Lee IV, issued a statement saying he resigned from Bethany United Church of Christ in Winston-Salem after the congregation decided to put his tenure to a vote.
Some church members were not comfortable with Lee’s remarks during the MTV awards when he introduced the mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed in Charlottesville while protesting against white supremacy.
“We have made my ancestor an idol of white supremacy, racism, and hate,” he said on the music network. “As a pastor, it is my moral duty to speak out against racism, America’s original sin.”
Although Lee issued an apology to church members for causing them pain with his remarks, he said he continues to “strongly support” removal of monuments to his ancestor and other Confederates…
To me, this is proof that some Christians only talk the talk. But there are some who actually walk the walk like this pastor. Kudos to you Reverend Lee.
This is another issue where I need to examine my own bias towards the faithful. I am quickly learning concurrent lessons from the BLM movement that are helping me see the ways I’ve been unfair and discriminatory, despite believing myself a fair and just person. Growth is good.

Protests are what is keeping the attention on the issue. And that will roll into November.
Vote in all the races and not just for president. Who we send to Congress is as important as who we send to the White House. Don’t forget local races…who is in charge of the police department, education, community organizing, etc. We can make change with our votes…we just have to show up.

For their part, if cops are trying to figure out ‘HOW’ this all took off, they can pat themselves on the back. The initial response in Minnesota by police to protests was very similar to Ferguson, heavy-handed & aggressive. NOT the response of an institution having some remorse one of their own had done something so sadistic & sociopathic. Then came Trump.
