Local Schools Ignoring DeVos And Trump's Push To Reopen | The 11th Hour | MSNBC

  1. Threats to pull funding from schools is an attack on our children. Really evil stuff going on.

    1. In Britain the government threatened parents with fines if they didn’t send their kids back. They attacked teachers & their unions, plus parents who were only voicing their concerns for the lives of their children, teachers & staff..The virus cases started to rise, as predicted , in many schools & in the general population of the areas… so, they shut down those schools again.. But then Britain is also being governed by dictator wannabes who have cost thousands of lives bc they chose to protect themselves, the economy & corporations over protecting people. 60,000 British people, inc 500 medical professionals , have died because of a crass leadership. Americas loss is great, it’s position with this virus dire & now Trump is throwing kids to the wolf so he has a narrative for his re-election rallies that HE & HE alone saved education for American kids..

    2. They were evil all along. Remember when they were laughing at imigrant children who died with their parents and they were saying it’s their fault. As if those poor souls were coming to the States for a vacation, not because they were desperate. Yeah, evil is their middle name.

  2. No school will let Trump & DeVos threaten them into reopening. They care about their students & staff. Plus they can get sued out of existence by parents of infected children.

    1. @Robby how on earth do masks hurt anyone.. i think you have been drinking to much orange clorex. No one in education is going to threaten children or educators.

    2. @Ms O thanks for your heart felt comment. We don’t know what is going to happen when kids are put together. Because being an educator no where are their more germs of any kind than a school.

    3. Myra Ripley you need to go back to school cause you can’t read. I never said I agreed with people saying mask hurt people and I called them stupid but I guess you’re stupid too

    4. @Karin Reck I do understand that because they’re not the majority in the Senate, they’re completely at the mercy of McConnell (how did we get to a point where *1* person could dictate *every* move of the Senate? No one should have that much control). But I’m only willing to give the Democrats a _little_ credit, honestly. Even the ideas they included in their bills (that didn’t pass) were woefully inadequate & focused more on benefiting the wealthy (like trying to include a rule where people couldn’t sue their employer for unsafe conditions leading to infection). Pelosi has even included financial aid for _lobbyists_ in the latest version, while families in need are only tossed another 1 time payment that won’t even cover rent & food for 1 month (with no further legislation expected to follow).

They were also complicit with giant loopholes in the ‘small business stimulus’ allowing huge corporations to deplete the fund before small business even had an opportunity to apply. The corruption goes so deep in our government =

    5. @keith parkhill The go to arguement of the idelog. This from someone that puts their faith in lier William’s and MSNBC. The only science is that which supports you?? Lame. Sound like a climate change sheeple to me. Your science is settled.

  3. Da Voss and tRUMP are batsh** crazy and do not have the general public in mind of safety and well being.

  4. I’m saying it again; the trump administration is like something straight out of a Horror version of the movie Idiocracy.

    1. @eltorocal So, you’re a nanny state guy? Need a perpetual mommy? Personal responsibility is not your thing?

    2. @Peter Wysochanski well first off that publication is right wing so your just using a confermation bias argument.

    3. @Quintus Horatius Flaccus This forum is like the 2 minute hate. The oppression is coming from the left. If you don’t see that your blind. Who’s for censorship? Who is for cancel culture? Who’s shooting you if you say “all lives matter.”? Who is setting up the next group of Kulaks with your hateful identity politics?

    4. Peter Wysochanski Read Max Boot’s recent article in WaPo on the Right’s own cancel culture and get back to me. As for censorship, did Bolton and Mary Trump’s books get published or not? Who was it that fought so hard to prevent it?

    5. @Peter Wysochanski Trump: “I take no responsibility at all” “The buck stops with everyone” you stupid, stupid moron.

    1. I wonder if she has grandchildren and if she’s OK with them loosing their lives. She seems perfectly fine with other people’s children loosing theirs.

    2. Or perhaps, “There are too many non white, non evangelical kids.” De Vos has a clear agenda and it is truly disgusting, as is she.

    3. There wont be to many kids if they force them in the school buildings bc everyone will be getting covid19. VOTE A STRAIGHT BLUE TICKET and save millions of people including our children and ourselves.

  5. People who voted for Trump were probably drinking bleach before he suggested it. That would explain the loss of common sense.

    1. NOTHING really explains that kind of catastrophic loss! Maybe home-schooled people were never taught SCIENCE of CONTAGION!!! If you never knew it as a parent, how cold you ever teach Science???

    2. @Biden is NOT the candidate they didn’t need to because we had a competent president taking care of ALL the people in this nation. He left a pandemic response off which Trump dismantled in 2018. Historical fact.

    3. @Peter Wysochanski why don’t you research it yourself since you seem to think you are so brilliant.

    4. @Nancy M Ross Because if you make a statement you should support it. I did research it and found it to be fake news crap. Maybe I missed something so someone needs to put on their big boy pants and support the claim. Sheep are predictable in how they fold when confronted.

    1. @Ash Roskell What amazes me though is how easy it has been for these people to intimidate and bully others for so long. This is the US, how can we have expectation from countries with no democratic history if these guy had no problem bulldozing their way through…. Amazing.

    2. Andy : It is amazing, as you say. And, whenever it looks like things don’t make sense, or that people in the GOP seem to be caving too easily, it’s nearly always about the MONEY I find. In this case, it’s a double whammy, as Trump’s Lobbyists want to make money through all the services they offer to schools, from meals to transport, from books to agency staffing; there’s a LOT of money to be made, and Devos has said as much. But, also, there’s the issue of freeing up workers, by having the schools taking over the responsibilities of care, while people go out and work.
Actually, it’s a triple whammy now, because as trump keeps saying, he genuinely believes that the Dems want to, “hold the economy back,” so he’ll be, “blamed,” for all the stuff that’s his fault anyway. It doesn’t occur to him, for a moment, that people may just want what’s best for their children, or that they have NO political motives whatsoever. So, trump thinks the solution is, “Get the schools open, everyone back to work, and the economy generating its usual business, and I’ll win the next election.” He GENUINELY THINKS THAT! As the man said, “Trump does not care if you live or die,” and that’s no joke!
When this Covid thing began, I said, “Trump will put America to the sword, for the money, while other countries watch in horror,” and I was told I was, “over reacting.” Here we are. Was I over reacting? ✌️👍

    3. @Ash Roskell it’s the Cassandra Syndrome. A few can see ahead – but getting others to listen! There’s the rub.

    4. @Ash Roskell you know, if this entire thing would not entail human lives, we’d have a laugh, and mybe exchange friendly, neighborly barbs , bur this thing is deadly. Or if you’re really unlucky it leaves you permanently damaged. And even if one can say that given its novelty, this virus was susceptible to engender mistakes, but it’s a difference when the mistakes are done on purpose. They seem so blinded by their hatred of anything vaguely liberal that they would rather have people killed than give any quarter . Make no mistake they are killing people, specially now that they have examples of what worked in other countries.

  6. Your headline should read “Local schools have more common sense than loser President and failed Sec. Of Education.”

    1. @Peter Wysochanski You keep offering that link, but all that it says is basically that it’s inconclusive. That isn’t a convincing argument when it comes to risking the lives of kids/teachers/their families by _insisting_ that they MUST be taught in person, 5 days a week (with no safety *requirements* or federal aid to assure CDC precaution guidelines are followed, after the administration already attempted to intimidate the CDC into changing said guidelines for _their_ convenience, not for the sake of those who would be affected by them).

They aren’t willing to work with the schools to develop individual plans based on the volume of cases in their area, or accept the idea of partial distance learning or staggering the days/times students attend in person classes for social distancing purposes). I mean no disrespect, but the information in that link doesn’t change these facts. As someone else said, our kids/teachers shouldn’t be used as canaries in the coal mine.

    2. @Hakura Chii It says more than that. It find that their subjects didn’t spread it and that others were unclear. Did the other studies show significant spreading by children. No one said, nor should they, that one study proves anything. It’s just one study that the MSNBC sheep seem bent on ignoring??

    3. @Peter Wysochanski I put more stock in the experience of an Arizona school system that had (in-person) summer school. 3 teachers were rotated through one classroom (so the children weren’t changing classrooms for each subject…everyone was socially distanced, wore masks, & sanitized their hands regularly). All 3 teachers ended up with the virus. 2 had to be hospitalized, & 1 (who had been teaching for 38 years) died as a result. We can’t prove where they picked it up. But the only place the 3 of them had in common was that classroom.

A lot of children are found to be asymptomatic carriers of the virus, & we’ve seen nothing that says they can’t spread it to adults like their teachers or their family. It doesn’t make sense (especially in particularly hard hit states) to push this reopening (under the conditions they’re trying to force). Nothing in that study can refute the possibility that schools all over the country could have the same catastrophic results.

  7. Unbelievable, do we need more proof he doesn’t care about people getting sick and dying? Vote Trump out.

    1. Devos will not survive her first few months in prison unless she is under protective custody from the general inmate population.

    2. I just hope that she gets a chance to be listened to in near future congressional investigations where she will be called upon to explain her corrupt behavior.

  8. Get ready for “Teachers are just out to get me and make me look bad. They’re all part of the radical left deep state.” (My God this administration is beyond atrocious and predictable)

    1. In his defense, teachers and educators do have the tendency to swing left. I mean, it’d be hard to believe the right’s rhetoric after earning your masters. But you’re totally right, he’s already saying those things.

    2. Callen Gardner thats the irony. Tucker Carlson and the like are constantly chirping about how schools are indoctrinating children with their leftist ideology. Now. We have to get our children back in school!!!!

  9. Show me the parents, who wants to sacrifice children to get Donnie Bunkerboy reelected!

  10. DeVos is vile dangerous and totally incompetent and unqualified so a perfect fit in this corrupt administration .Watching from UK all I can say is God help America
