China didn’t act despite knowing and allowed the virus to spread. Also, even if you take China’s death number at face value, which you shouldn’t because the Chinese government has a long history of censorship of things that would look bad, they took measures such as sealing people in their homes to let them die, and generally forcing people to quarantine. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, however, given China’s history with authoritarianism. See the Uighur Muslim concentration camps and reeducation systems.
Trump may be seen as a divisive figure. I’ll admit, he has a loose tongue and a terrible way of presenting himself to people. But the fault also falls into large media corporations and the like that have been encouraging this exact division for some time now. Including distancing from Trump supporters, which of course, would only lead to more polarization.
Lastly, if you want to bring up violent ‘protests’ as a bad thing, then call out the people actually doing the rioting.

When these people say “bringing people together”, what they really mean is that everyone else is obligated to agree with them. Their views, their norms, their tradition. They do want unity, but it all has to be centered around their worldview. It’s because these people grew up in echo chambers. They were raised with ideas that everyone in their community agrees with and continuously perpetuates. They haven’t ever dealt with being wrong. And not just being told that you are, but allowing yourself to realise that you are. Any actual disagreement these people have usually turns into something violent. These people think that insisting on your own beliefs is a sign of strength, while in reality it’s ignorance of one’s own fallability. These are preachers and warriors of “truth” rather than humble and reasonable human beings. And the sad thing is, these echo chamber communities will continue to exist for awhile.
