The presiding offices does need to stop confusing persons whenever they are there to cast their vote as i was instructed to mark the X on either side of the symbol on the ballot paper. I question her and was to yes either side is correct
What the PO said is correct. You can mark on either side of the symbol but only with an ‘x’ some put a tick or some other mark and that would have caused the ballot to be rejected.
