McCaskill: When Trump Decided To Lie To The American People About Covid, He ‘Killed Them’ | MSNBC

Former Missouri Senator and MSNBC political contributor Claire McCaskill breaks down the new revelations in Bob Woodward’s latest book, ‘Rage’, that Trump was aware just how deadly Covid-19 was in February, but intentionally downplayed the risk so the American people ‘would not panic‘. McCaskill: When Trump Decided To Lie To The American People About Covid, He ‘Killed Them’ | MSNBC

    1. YouTube Moderator you’re playing yourself. What you’re saying is the equivalent of your dad and mom buying a house and not putting locks on the doors and then trying to solely blame the robber for robbing the house. The President’s first job is to protect Americans. He’s the parent. Regardless of what emergency shows up, he’s supposed to protect everyone. Instead of listening to the scientists, this dummy wants people to drink disinfectant and not wear masks. He’s dumb AF and anyone that supports him is dumb AF. I guess you’re part of that group.

    2. YouTube Moderator one big thing you’re leaving out. Biden isn’t the president. Trump is. So trying to put blame on anyone other than the commander and chief is a joke. There’s only one president and your man failed at his job.

    3. @Black Jay Biden was VP for 8 years. Blaming Trump for Biden and Obama’s failings isn’t working. Try a new tact.

    4. YouTube Moderator last I checked, Trump was President. Continuously trying to blame the previous administration won’t solve the 200,000 deaths under Trump’s watch. Take your Whataboutisms to another place. They have no value here.

    5. @Black Jay Trump saved a million people at a minimum. Give the man credit. Why are “black and brown” communites hit harder by the ?Wuhan Virus? Is is because they refuse to listen to anyone anyway?

    1. @Ms Linda Yeah, he has an early video before the Woodward tapes in which he stated manslaughter. The tapes have changed the situation.

  1. Claire, you keep it up girl! You are so insightful and honest , I really appreciate your down to earth ness!

    1. @thom wessels Yeah well anyone can be nominated…. this egotistical a/hole has been nominated every year of presidency, he nominates himself, but he’ll never win…. he has just killed 200,000 of his own people more than Sadam Hussan so you’ll see no screaming here just a lot of head shaking in disbelief that anyone with any intelligence would follow trump

  2. Clair, you are expressing what I hope most Americans including myself are feeling. Utter disbelief that Trump still has any supporters. Other than the cultists. It’s mind boggling.

    1. @Sam Meyer Strange the Trump supporters are equally convinced that you are gullible and lack the ability to think critically. I think you are both right. The Republican and Democratic parties both wreak of corruption. Neither is your friend, or mine.

    2. FragilE, give it up, Trump is supporting Qnon candidates. He knew the coronavirus virus is deadly, and highly transmissible by airborne contact. He lied about it and mocked and eschewed masks, distancing guidelines and continues to do so while holding rallies and pressing for school openings which expose children. Jim Jones only murdered the people in his compound, Trump is spreading death across the country. This is genocide on a scale of settlers giving native Americans typhoid blankets. 190,000 deaths, and 6.5 million infected.

    3. @John DiGiacomo Is Qnon China? Biden loves China not Trump. You may be confused. Biden takes China money and made up a story that Trump mocked war dead. It’s blatantly made up.

    4. You Tube moderator, Trump owes China 22 million coming due in 2022, he just got a half billion dollar loan from China for a golf resort in Thailand, in exchange for lifting sanctions against ZTE which was selling American technology to Iran and North Korea. Ivanka has 7 Chinese patents, and trademarks. Me thinks he protests too much. Regarding his statement about the military, it was confirmed by multiple sources from every major network, including news all with independent sources. I suppose his interview with Woodward was false too. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, Jim Jones killed over 1,000 people in the jungle, Trump’s sending them out to infect others. Trump is committing genocide on Americans, similar to giving Typhoid infected blankets to native Americans. Supporting Trump at this time isn’t just stupidity, it’s insanity.

  3. We know Trump is heartless. What about all those Christians? Where is that God loving Pence in all this death & turmoil.

    1. @thom wessels it was a far right hate group in norway nominated him. trump as zero chance of getting the peace prize. it will be more likely trump will be going to jail and you can bet the rest of the world would love that.

    2. Shelly JB: There are several possibilities. 1.) Pence is a Christian for show, like Jerry Falwell, Jr, and Jim Bakker, and Jimmy Swaggart, Scott DesJarlais (the congressman who reportedly insists on banning abortions for everyone but his mistress and his wives), and Mark Sanford (who also supports lying about adultery, when it is _his_ adulterous acts that are being lied about until he got caught), and we could go on and on. You almost think that these people became Christians so that they could commit a whole host of sins and then be absolved of them by their fellow Christians. Or perhaps they learned from childhood that that’s how it works. How convenient! Correct me if I am wrong, but does the Bible not tell us essentially that we are all bound to commit sins because we are human, and can be absolved of them, but that we should not _seek_ to commit them to abuse the privilege of absolution God mercifully grants us? Being a Christian should not be like a “Get Out of Jail Free” card, should it? As for Pence, there is no hint that he belongs in that group, but then again, there was no indication that any of them belonged in that group until they were caught in their misdeeds. It’s just like claiming you should be allowed to own a gun because you are a law-abiding citizen, when every single person was a law-abiding citizen until they chose not to be. It’s true that we don’t ban accounting because some accountants choose to embezzle, but that’s just about money, not the irrevocable taking of a human life. Let’s assume, however, that Pence has not committed any crimes.

Then we come to the second possibility. Pence sees his continuing unwavering, if zombie-like, support for Trump as being the only possible stepping stone to his own presidency, since, had John Kasich accepted the nomination (Wouldn’t that have been fun for the country to go through? A vice-president resigning and writing a tell-all book.), Mike Pence would have as much chance of ever becoming a presidential nominee as, say, Kay Ivey and Brad Little do. (Don’t feel bad if you don’t know who Kay Ivey and Brad Little are without Googling them. That’s why I picked them.) Apparently, Pence believes that ambition is a deeply-held Christian tenet. No doubt, should he someday get elected, he will think that God had a hand in it. Funny, but I’ll bet he wouldn’t say the same thing about the election of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. I have nothing against an ambitious politician, just an ambitious politician who also wears his Christian religion on his sleeve. Rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s is not the same as trying to become Caesar.

No, I don’t believe there is one in a thousand chance that Pence (or any other Trump hanger-on in the White House) believes Trump is fit to be president. They are all using Donald Trump either for political advancement or because he is a useful vehicle for some other cause they believe in that Trump is willing to go along with (that would include Stephen Miller and William Barr, for example) and they are willing to be used by Trump to advance his own personal goals. Does anyone have any evidence that Trump really cares whether undocumented immigrants enter from Mexico? I mean, the man had plenty on the payrolls of his resorts until it became embarrassing for him. Did he really want to lock up Hillary? Of course not. He believes in no overriding principles. One wonders if Mike Pence does.

    1. ‘Cause he’s the devil. That’s how it works. We do win in the end, but we have to go through the tribulation first.

    2. Did Nixon go to prison? I’m surprised at the shock and horror expressed generally regarding Trump’s action or lack of response to the virus. Did no one realise he was lying when he tried to play down the seriousness of the virus? Did no one realise he just wanted to hold his political rallies? Did no one realise he doesn’t care how many people die? He’s a psychopath! Obtuse is not a strong enough word.

    3. @Constituent A Forget the Devil. You need to ask yourself why so many support Trump, a sociopath. By the way, your constitution and political system is rubbish (trash). Stay safe.

    4. He has 52 partners in crime that did not have the dignity, courage, love for country to impeach him. How can they sleep at night? If they had an ounce of decency, they would, at least, resign, in in some cases, stop breathing.

    5. HIS SUPPORTERS AND ENABLERS ARE KKK WITHOUT SHEETS. THEY WOULD RATHER SEE US AS A COUNTRY DESTROYED THAN BE FAIR TO EVERYONE
NOW WE HAVE Q WHICH SEEMS TO LIKE HUMP. HE’S GOING TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM PEDOPHILES
MOTHERS FOR Q HAVE NOT READ ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE
JUST ABOUT DOING AWAY WITH THEM. THAT’S GREAT BUT IT ISN’T EVEN CLOSE. PUTIN FROM RUSSIA AND HUMP ARE THE HEROS IF YOU ARE RICH AND FAMOUS YOU ARE A BABY KILLER. ISN’T THAT PUTIN AND HUMP THE EARTH IS FLAT
AND HALF THE PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD ARE NOT THE GENDER THEY APPEAR TO BE. THOSE WHO CAN MAKE YOU BELIEVE IM ABSURDITIES CAN MAKE YOU COMMIT ATROCITIES. ADOLF.HITLER 1939

    1. I can’t believe how brainwashed you leftards are…..You are being played like a fiddle and used for your ignorance, hate and child like understanding of the world and how things work.

      TRUMP 2020!!!! BLM=BURN,LOOT,MURDER

    2. @Sakeena Smith Stay home nobody’s forcing you to go…Find another job,but quit blaming everything and everyone else…Shutting down everything is in the plandemic, for a .0002% death rate if that…TB has a 15% death rate…Trump 2020!!

    3. @Sakeena Smith you, and people like you, are the reason Republicans in the Senate want to strip liability from employers. They want to be able to force you to put yourself at risk do businesses and organizations can be willfully negligent without consequences.

    1. @ m.b Excellent titling… MURDER BY NEGLIGENT AMBITION! BRILLIANT! HOWEVER SOOOOOOOO SAD! THIS PUNK IS KILLING US!!!! LET THAT SINK IN. AMERICANS, PLEASE VOTE!!!!

    1. No, I don’t think they are as much to blame… but they are definitely willing accomplices in what amounts to the negligent homicide of more than 100,000 innocent Americans.

    1. @santolify Okay, then what would putting Covid patients in the same hospitals as sick elderly people, a large number who died due to his doing that, make Cuomo?

Seems to me that you’re a hypocrite, something which expected from Democrats.

    2. John Smith, Cuomo was hit with the largest outbreak in the world in the shortest period of time, without equipment PPE and supplies, there were also no treatments at the time within two months he flattened the curve with shelter in place orders and distancing guidelines, once masks became available to the general public the numbers dropped precipitously. New York has the lowest infection rate in the country, and has been for two months. Trump knew the coronavirus was airborne, more than five times as deadly as the flu, and had a high transmission rate. He lied to the public, mocked and eschewed and distancing guidelines held rallies, and continues to promote conduct that is killing Americans. He is forcing schools to open without proper safeguards exposing millions of children to the threat. This is an attempted genocide on Americans by Trump. Supporting him at this point is beyond stupidity it’s insanity.

    1. The democratic leadership decided to lie to the American people. They are hiding the truth about Biden’s health situation. He has progressive dementia and is unfit to become president.

    2. @DynaCatlovesme It’s because you’re so focused on Mr. Trump. Try focusing your attention on Mr. Biden. Be honest with yourself. The signs and symptoms of progressive dementia are so evident in him. His cognition has declined terribly. You don’t have to be a doctor, nurse, or health practitioner to see it. The democratic leadership is concealing the problem. They don’t want him to submit for evaluation. He needs to be evaluated for mental acuity to determine his fitness to rule our nation.

    3. @Robert Roman Trump doesn’t want to show us his tax returns because he (probably) wasn’t paying his taxes… Wth kind of President doesn’t pay their own taxes? If he had nothing to hide on his tax returns he would have shown them. Besides we can say that Trump could be suffering from dementia just as well he doesn’t seem to remember that he wanted to downplay the virus (conveniently).

  4. Can you imagine the rage from the nurses and Drs on the front line that had to deal with all the death in the hospitals. The man is a murderer.

    1. And the front line police officers having rocks thrown at them and industrial grade fireworks shot in their faces because of you racists. Remember all the front line essential workers attacked during the blm riots? I didn’t.

    1. “If you can’t take care of your sick in the country, forget it, it’s all over. I mean, it’s no good. So I’m very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.”
― The Donald @ Larry King Live, October 1999

“A friend of mine was in Scotland recently. He got very, very sick. They took him by ambulance and he was there for four days. He was really in trouble, and they released him and he said, ‘Where do I pay?’ And they said, ‘There’s no charge.’ Not only that, he said it was like great doctors, great care. I mean we could have a great system in this country.”
― The Donald @ The David Letterman Show, January 2015

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody. We’re going to have a healthcare that is far less expensive and far better.”
― The Donald @ interview with The Washington Post, January 2017

“Hillary’s always surrounded herself with very good people, I think Hillary would do a good job [as president].”
[praising Hillary Clinton as a Democratic presidential candidate who could make a good deal with Iran.]
― The Donald @ interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, September 2007

“I know [Hillary Clinton] and she’d make a good president or good vice president.”
[speaking of the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries]
― The Donald @ “Trumped!”, a syndicated radio feature, 2008

“Hillary Clinton I think is a terrific woman. I am biased because I have known her for years. I live in New York. She lives in New York. I really like her and her husband both a lot. I think she really works hard. And I think, again, she’s given an agenda, it is not all of her, but I think she really works hard and I think she does a good job [since joining the Obama administration as Secretary of State]. I like her.”
― The Donald @ interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, March 2012

“I know [Hillary Clinton] very well, and I know her husband very well, and I like them both. They are just really terrific people. I like them both very much. But I think you’ll be looking at the record of Hillary Clinton. And how did she do as secretary of state? Probably above and beyond everybody else and everything else.”
[speaking after the 2012 Benghazi attack]
― The Donald @ interview with NBC News, August 2013

“I really believe the Republicans are just too crazy right. I mean, what’s going on [in that party] is just nuts.”
― The Donald @ interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press”, October 1999

“In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat. I’ve been around a long time. And it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn’t be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats. …we’ve had some pretty bad disaster[s] under the Republicans.”
― The Donald @ interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, March 2004

[Flip-flopping on the electoral college: from “disaster” to “genius”]

      [Trump deleted the following tweets:]
“[Obama] lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election. We should have a revolution in this country!” (Nov. 6)
“The phoney [sic] electoral college made a laughing stock out of our nation. The loser one!” (Nov. 6)
“More votes equals a loss… revolution!” (Nov. 7)
      [The following tweets remained:]
“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!” (Nov. 7)
“Lets fight like Неll and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.” (Nov. 7)
“This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!” (Nov. 7)
“The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.” (Nov. 7)
      ― The Donald @ Twitter, November 2012

[Trump in 2016, after winning the electoral college with narrow wins in three states, while losing the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes]
“The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!” (Nov. 15)
“If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y. Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily” (Nov. 15)
      ― The Donald @ Twitter, November 2016

“Mitt is tough. He is smart. He is sharp. He is not going to allow bad things to continue to happen to this country that we all love. So Gov. Romney, go out and get em. You can do it.”
― The Donald @ “Trump endorses Mitt Romney for president”, CBS News, February 2012

“[Mitt Romney] is a choke artist… He doesn’t have what it takes to be president, that I can tell you.”

“I think if this country gets any kinder or gentler, it’s literally going to cease to exist.”
      ― The Donald @ Playboy, March 1990

“Let our politicians give back our police department’s power to keep us safe. Unshackle them from the constant chant of ‘police brutality’…”
― The Donald @ “Bring Back the Ðeath Penalty. Bring Back Our Police!”, a newspaper ad, May 1989

[Speaking of his admiration for strong authoritarian government]
“Q: What were your other impressions of the Soviet Union?
A: I was very unimpressed. Their system is a disaster. What you will see there soon is a revolution; the signs are all there with the demonstrations and picketing. Russia is out of control and the leadership knows it. That’s my problem with Gorbachev. Not a firm enough hand.
Q: You mean firm hand as in China?
A: When the students poured into Tiananmen Square [in 1989], the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak… as being spit on by the rest of the world.”
      ― The Donald @ Playboy, March 1990

― The Donald @ “The Art of the Deal”, 1987

“It’s amazing, I can’t even believe it. I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world, it is a dangerous world out there. It’s like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”

[to two ⒕-year-old girls in 1992, after asking the girls how old they were. The girls were part of a youth choir performing a carol concert outside Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel.]

“Leadership: Whatever happens, you’re responsible. If it doesn’t happen, you’re responsible.”
      ― The Donald @ Twitter, November 2013

“You can’t con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don’t deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on.”
― The Donald @ “The Art of the Deal”, 1987

“I’m gоіng tо tеll yоu whаt I rеаlly thіnk оf Dоnаld Trump. Thіs mаn іs а pаthоlоgіcаl lіаr. Hе dоеsn’t knоw thе dіffеrеncе bеtwееn truth аnd lіеs. The “self-made man” who tax dodged a $413M “gift” from daddy’s real estate empire.

      The “philanthropist” who defrauds charity.
The “patriot” who dodged the draft; family tradition: grandfather was kicked out of Bavaria for draft-dodging, father bribed a doctor tenant to exempt Donald from military service.
The “paragon of honesty” whose new immigration rules would have kept his and his senior anti-immigration adviser Stephen Miller’s grandparents out.
The “steadfast defender of our nation’s borders” who married an alleged undocumented immigrant and illegal worker who sponsored her parents into the country by “chain migration”.

The “President” who takes no responsibility.
The “tough, strong man“ who wears makeup and hairspray but never a mask.

If America reelects this guy, it deserves the dystopian future that follows.

    3. it IS Heather, Glenn Kirschner has a plan for when Joe gets into office. not only negligent homicide, but 2nd degree murder as well.

“No, I don’t want anyone to panic about fire, I’ll tell them that brown people are moving in.”

    1. @Robert Roman Did you know that his not being able to lift a glass, not being able to go down a ramp, and MOST importantly, not swinging your arms while walking are CLASSIC signs of dementia?
