Michael Kenna – my guide to photographing China’s most mysterious landscapes | Encounters in China

Lu Xiao (Beijing, China) decided to open a photography gallery when he was just 24 years old. He admired the work of world-famous photographer Michael Kenna (who lives in the USA), so emailed him out of the blue. They met in Beijing, shot photographs together and decided they could work together.

Lu has worked as Michael's guide and interpreter – together they have been to and photographed some of the most beautiful and famous sites in China: The Forbidden City, the Yellow Mountains, Yangshou, the rice terraces in Yunnan.

Lu's gallery has made sure people in China get to see Michael's remarkable photography, and their friendship has meant that Michael has been able to show China to the world.
