Michael Smerconish: GOP’s fear of their base is warranted

Fearing the base, House GOP members voted differently in private than in public. CNN's Michael Smerconish asks, if Marjorie Taylor Greene's brand of politics ends up dominating the party, will minority leader Kevin McCarthy feel "buyer's remorse"?

    1. @Belly Dancer Em – Biden’s idea of jobs goes only as far as destroying them, like he did on day one. Americans see it all.

    2. you’re ignoring such things as peer pressure. often, people do the right thing because people are watching and they do not want to be seen as doing the wrong thing. or they dont want to make a target of themselves by standing out in a group.

it’s when you’re alone, and there’s no one around to influence your decisions where “doing the right thing” becomes character.

but, i will say that “character” is a bad term for it, when we mean “good character,” or more properly “integrity.”

    1. @kaiss-kc kc I read the article and I think everyone else should too. A real eye opener for those who aren’t clear on what’s really happening..

    2. @Harold Baltimore Harry, you do realize that my post was sarcastic, don’t you? And who says I am white and or privileged? Do you live every day triggered? That must be exhausting.

  1. There is no love lost between Greek and Turkish Cypriots but their meeting as university students in England has often led to friendship and even intermarriage

    1. you do realize that CNN consistently encourages Republicans to go against their voters and do what’s in the best interest of the party establishment instead of their constituents who elected them as their representative to represent them… Right? Or do you just not care because it fits your personal narrative? I’m sure you wouldn’t be opposed to Republicans telling Democrats that they should not represent you, their voter and instead do what is in their best interest or interest of the party instead of their voters 🙄

  2. You know this reminds me of when lunatics get out of the asylum and get a job in politics we are also doomed LMAO😆😂😂😂😆

    1. @JourneyMan Smitty there was this one time when state representative Maxine waters bit me in the shin bone.

  3. That is FOOLISHNESS! If they can’t vote their conscience 100% of the time (EVEN when the votes are public) , then GET OUT! You are not honoring your oath! And you don’t deserve to be there!

THINK ABOUT THE FOR-FATHERS! Those men OPENLY risked their lives and went against a whole kingdom!

    1. @Daniel Morse Mueller report found guilt. I made no comment about Steele. Judging by your english use here, english is not your first language, so i will excuse your lack of understanding.

    2. @gswombat You didn’t watch the hearings that were ongoing about the Russian hoax. People were charged and those are the ones that are now suing. Watch The Crossfire Hurricane on the White House Youtube channel…

    3. @Ral Deform Did you mean *common sense*?

You’re getting destroyed on this comment thread. You haven’t once provided any data to argue your point. Just a bunch of name calling and attacking someone’s character. Pretty weak debating skills if you ask me.

    2. @Randy Tharp well Trump did his research on solar panels. Solar panels have a seven year life span they aren’t cheap and solar panels have lead in them, they aren’t cheap to recycle and to make solar panels you have to do a lot of polluting. See Trump does his research he likes the idea of solar and wind but the tech just isn’t ready for powering a nation like the USA, o as for wind power the windmills kill a lot of birds, and wind doesn’t always blow, best way to live drip all tech live off the land or stop complaining about this and that. Now biden he just signs whatever’s put infront of him he doesn’t care could be a document legalizing abortion up to 3 years old like one Dems wants

I will go one step farther — They all should be drug tested ! Just like you and me before we are hired for a job .

    4. @peaceandllov not sure I understand this comment. The GOP has openly gerrymandered districts all over this country since Emancipation. They have overtly
Suppressed minorities access to vote. No democrats have done that …. because it is unconstitutional AND because it is immoral.

  4. I don’t think I’ll ever really understand his cult following and this dreaded fear that republicans have of him. He’s an old man. He can’t remember for more than ten minutes the last thing he said and he’s not likely to live much longer. He’s not healthy and he has a drug habit. I don’t get it.

    1. I think it is because this is no longer about trump the lunatic, but trump the movement. They are fascists. They will use violence against their own. I am the child of a Holocaust survivor. We better all be afraid of the trump movement. I always knew it was coming, but I did not expect it in my life time.

    2. I really don’t think they are afraid of him… they fear his insane and irrational mob they call “ supporters”… Trumps a wimp…

    4. If I, as citizen of the United States, want my representatives to look the other way when treason has been committed all because it’s in my party’s best interest… then I’ve gone off the deep end and shouldn’t be trusted.

    1. you do realize that CNN is telling Republican representatives to put their own or the parties best interest ahead of their constituents, right? That they should not listen to their voters who elected them to represent them and instead do what’s in the best interest of the party establishment… Think about that for a second and ask yourself if you would be opposed to that idea if your beloved democratic politicians did everything to oppose you, their constituent over what’s best for the party…

    2. The Republicans are right though. There was widespread voter fraud during the election: by their own party.

  5. I’m still trying to figure out why not one person has yet to be charged with officer sicknicks death??? Smh

    1. @Erin McCreary His name is John Sullivan and he did an interview with Anderson Cooper this summer. Do your homework or are you used to MSM doing it for you? Simp!

    2. @Chunkski Farms Oh right, ONE person did it all? I mean, I know pro-Trumpers and right wingers are whimpy, weak minded cowards, but are you trying to tell me, John Sullivan directed hundreds of pro-Trumpers? Lol.
Unlike you, of course I did my homework. Sullivan certainly is a weird guy. He undoubtedly has participated in BLM protests. There is no ethics exam to take part. He has no affiliation with Antifa. He tried to justify his participation in the insurrection as “independent journalism”. He has been called out by former BLM acquaintences and even his own family. He is politically totally confused at best. Or there might be mental illness at play, too. I give it to you that he is too ambiguous, so you cannot attribute him to any political spectrum.

So yeah, the homework you have done doesn´t cut it at all. Who fed you such poor information?

    3. @Erin McCreary They were still watching the Presidents speech when it all started. Look at the timelines. Also you said I was lying and misinformed which clearly I wasn’t. Stop regurgitating what the MSM tells you. THEY are THE liars and it makes you look like a puppet. Nice 👍🏻 troll account by the way.

    1. What do you even mean you boomer lmao stfu quit trying to sound philosophical like every other 45+ year old in the youtube comments

    2. We are not a civilization. Humans are constantly killing each other, and the world has had parts at war for, well, forever. The political leaders are the biggest, greediest, liars, who would sell their mother, spouse or children to remain in power. no, we’re not civilized. We just call ourselves that to feel good about ourselves, essentially lying to ourselves.

  6. What John Wooden meant is that someone of good character behaves well REGARDLESS of whether someone is watching. Not ONLY when no one is watching.

  7. “No one should be ashamed to admit they were wrong, which is but to say they are wiser today than they were yesterday” (Alexander Pope)
