Miss. Dominica Nadira Lando has captured the crown as the 2012 Jaycees Caribbean Queen, in the 51st year of the pageant.
In an evening dubbed “A Galaxy of Enchanted Royalties”, the lady from the Nature Isle emerged as the Supernova.
Miss. Lando, who was adjudged Most Photogenic along with Best Evening Wear and Modeling skills is flanked by the First and Second Runners up; Miss St. Kitts/Nevis Kaila Huggins and Miss. St Lucia; Roxanne Didier Nicholas who copped Best Performing Talent and Best Swimwear.
The other judged category went to Miss. Anguilla Olunfumike Devonish, who was awarded the Most Congenial by her peers.
In an evening that got off to a late start due to inclement weather, the Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show 2012 still put forward a valiant effort in providing an entertaining show for the attendees who braved the weather.
Fifteen (15) delegates entered the pageant initially and were judged in a preliminary show held on Wednesday, August 1st. After the Introductory Segment of the evening’s show where all delegates presented themselves to the audience, ten (10) delegates were selected to advance.
The ten (10) delegates selected were: Miss. Antigua/Barbuda Ranee Laronde, Miss. St. Croix Ashley Massiah, Miss. St. Vincent & the Grenadines Canice Glasgow, Miss. Anguilla Olunfumike Devonish, Miss. St. Kitts/Nevis Kaila Huggins, Miss. British Virgin Islands Abigail Hyndman, Miss. St. Lucia Roxanne Didier Nicholas, Miss. Dominica Nadira Lando, Miss. Jamaica Krystle Daley and Miss. Trinidad & Tobago Davia Chambers.
From these ten (10) delegates a further five (5) were selected as the five finalists. The countries represented in the top five were: Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis and Antigua & Barbuda.
Among the five finalists, Miss. Trinidad & Tobago’s performing talent was a dramatic presentation depicting violence and gang activity amongst youth with a message that parents need to exert better control over their children.
Miss. St. Lucia’s performing talent was a Modern dance with hints of Ballet done to “Have You Seen My Childhood” by Michael Jackson. Her display of technical skill and elegance were evident.
Miss. Dominica who emerged as the overall winner, did a dramatic presentation paying homage to her heritage of the Kalinago (Carib) people of Dominica and their tenacity.
Miss. St. Kitts & Nevis performed “Down by the River” a song reminiscent of a Negro Spiritual.
Miss. Antigua & Barbuda performed her dance piece from the Talent Segment of the Miss. Antigua Pageant that she won…replete with fire sticks, splits and a show of technical skill.
The weather certainly did not dampen the ladies spirits and they along with JCI certainly put forward an entertaining evening.
The Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show is the second oldest pageant globally.
