MN AG Keith Ellison: ‘The Idea That Things Went So Wrong So Fast Is Cause For An Investigation’

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison tells Lawrence O’Donnell that the Minneapolis police chief made the right decision in firing the four officers involved in the death of George Floyd, who cried “I can’t breathe” as police restrained him by the neck. He says the investigations should proceed, but that shouldn’t mean the community “can’t express its outrage, disappointment and frustration.” Aired on 5/26/2020.

  1. Absolutely HORRIFYING watching this from Australia.
America – how on earth can you watch the Police MURDER someone in broad daylight in front of everyone.
Oh well, I guess your President murdered 100,000 people – one more doesn’t matter to you lot.
    DISGUSTING. Prayers for the family.

    1. Colleen this has gone on in America since its inception and continues unabated, if you are horrified….can you imagine what black people in this country(& on the planet) experience every day of our lives under the social construct of white supremacy? This is a product of a systemic ideology that has always been part of the genocide Europeans have exacted on people of color for eons, i.e. the decimation of indigenous people of Australia .

    2. @Jason A That video didn’t show nothing. What happened right before Floyd went to the ground?

    3. @Andrew Garcia I believe you mean “that video didn’t show anything”. But in fact, it did show something. It showed the police cuffing him. Again, what action could justify the officer cutting off George Floyd’s airway for seven minutes or more? Even hypothetically?

    4. Colleen Kelly : Free people own guns, slaves don’t. Overworked, underpaid, over taxed, YOU, Americas’ New Slave.

  2. American police showcases its cruelty on live video by choking a man to his death. Boy, it is hard to watch..

    1. @Bono Budju the dept can’t be responsible for what a pig rogue cop does once he leaves the building any more than a parent can be blamed for what an adult child might do once they leave the house😉✌

    2. @CherBear Departments must be held accountable especially since one of the officers had over a dozen police conduct complaints against him relating to use of force incidents which resulted in no disciplinary action and at least one lawsuit involving violation of a prisoners constitutional rights.

  3. Firing is not enough. This was murder. All of the officers should be charged. Despicable behavior.

    1. At least they are investigating it. Personally I don’t understand how these guys aren’t charged with murder already. Unfortunately they would probably get off, remember Eric Garner in New York? Eric died telling police he couldn’t breath as well and the grand jury failed to indict the officer responsible (officer Pantaleo).

    2. Yeah..they are “investigating” this😉😉. And the report will read something to the effect as the officers acting in an appropriate way as he was combative..etc etc we send our sympathy to the family. The usual spin they put on the police crimes against humanity. I hope my friends get to investigate any crime i may be accused of.

  4. No such thing as a “good cop” because a so called “good cop” couldn’t possibly tolerate criminals in uniform. Don’t ever give me that crap about good cops.

    1. Ellis McPickle , we know you live in fear without a firearm but don’t superimpose your vaginal tendencies on the rest of a free thinking society. What a padussy.

    2. @Red Hulk Green Hulk well, we can only guess as to how it would of happened.. And how is it not the duty of an American to protect another Americans life? These cops work for us, either live by the law, or die for breaking it( the cops) . These cops could of been held at gun point and arrested, or taken down physically, either way, dude would be alive..

    3. @Douglas Nielsen so you would have either threatened or assaulted the officer? And youve basically just said that its ok he died. Now we know whT you think. Please stop bothering people online and go about your business.

    4. @Red Hulk Green Hulk and the bottom line is, nothing would of stopped me from tackling that cop, and removing him from the dude.. We either cower to these scum, or we do the right thing. The fact that the cop had his hand in his pocket the whole time, shows dude was no threat. This was a criminal offence, perpetrated by a pos who works for us..!! Absolutely disgusting that people stood around and cried about it, rather than take action and save a fellow American 👍

    5. And I was talking about the cops, when I said uphold the law or they will die breaking it.. 👍

  5. They acted quickly, but let’s wait and see how the police union gets these criminals get their jobs back.

    1. MarcusT : Free people own guns, slaves don’t. Overworked, underpaid, over taxed, YOU, Americas’ New Slave.

  6. Have to do a psychological profile on the job candidates. Otherwise, the force will become predominantly fascist.

    1. It’s called an MMPI and I’m willing to bet they all pass because they’re required to.

    2. Honestly, it should probably be done ever other year, not just to get hired. People can change.

    3. They do a psych profile but cop culture teaches “us vs. them”. The public outcry right now is adding to this when it should humble them to believing they are public servants, not public masters.

    1. Charles L Jones : Wait for the, “history,” between this alleged, “forger,” and Officer Kickback to come out? Fired? Good. Arrested? “Better give this one to the FBI.” . . . OK? . . .

    2. Nothing to do with training… had it been a white man with knife they’d have all the training to bring him in alive

    3. 201 333 : Free people own guns, slaves don’t. Overworked, underpaid, over taxed, YOU, Americas’ New Slave.

    4. @246Irad innocent or guilty no matter at all, in any case he is guilty of the same crime. Cold blooded murder!

    1. In this case all those officers should get the same treatment… A knee on their neck for 7 minutes straight… If they survive they still go to jail.

    2. Let the dead man’s family decide their fate. It was right to fire them. Jail the one with his knee on the neck for murder. The other cops that stood by watching and did nothing are just as guilty. The video doesn’t lie no matter how much they spin it.

    3. Well this cop has killed 3 ppl before this go figure his name is David chavin

  7. I hate to think how many similar cases were ignored before everyone had a videocam on their phone. Even now, justice is too seldom served. These are modern-day lynchings and need to be treated as such.

    1. Chris P. Bacon “I hate to think how many similar cases were ignored before everyone had a videocam on their phone.”
      —–
Rodney King in 1991…to my knowledge the first case of videodocumented police brutality.
Check also out Ice Cube’s “Who got the camera?” from 1992. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOfTgGp6tS0

    2. Chris P. Bacon : Free people own guns, slaves don’t. Overworked, underpaid, over taxed, YOU, Americas’ New Slave.

    3. @PJ R: everyone suffers from Stress but that is no excuse to Criminally commit Homicide because you’re over worked Policemen go into their line of work because they want to help people and serve the public unfortunately you have some bad apples that are brutal and Violent individuals that show in the beginning that they have aggressive intentions tendencies then it gets worse they became violent and extremely aggressive they should’ve been evaluated by their Psychological therapist when they were over worked stressed out not Murder a Man whom did everything the officer asked him to this is Cold Blooded Murder and Our Creator GOD Almighty; will Judge these men in uniform and they will be Judged and hopefully here on Earth they will be found Guilty of Criminal Homicide;

  8. Since when did killing a man became failing to live up to a standard? The standard of being a human?

    1. Truly one of the worst police brutality I have ever seen, it’s right up there with abortion 👎🖕

  9. This is Unbelievable! I don’t know how the police department is going to talk themselves out of this.

    1. There is no accountability from the police departments or the police unions across this country when it come to murdering people of color period sooner or later this subject will have to be dealt with ASAP, before it to late.

  10. He had no problem looking right into the camera as he killed this man. He could have cuffed him and kept him down but he knows cops rarely get convicted.

    1. @Opinion equals Being Hater nowadays Media , according to https://www.startribune.com/what-we-know-about-derek-chauvin-and-tou-thao-two-of-the-officers-caught-on-tape-in-the-death-of-george-floyd/570777632/ the following was reported:

      1. In 2008, Chauvin shot and wounded Ira Latrell Toles during a domestic assault call. According to a 2011 article from the Pioneer Press, Chauvin and other officers showed up to an apartment in south Minneapolis just before 2 a.m. Toles grabbed for an officer’s gun and Chauvin shot him in the abdomen. <-- I am unsure how the reported action of the suspect qualifies an officer as a murderer. Please elaborate. 2. In 2006, Chauvin and five others responded to a stabbing. After Wayne Reyes, 42, allegedly pulled a shotgun on the officers, one of the officers shot and killed Reyes, according to a report titled “Stolen Lives” from Communities United Against Police Brutality, a police watchdog nonprofit based in Minneapolis. <-- This does not state that Chauvin was the shooter of the individual. Please elaborate on your point. My goal is to have a discussion with you. My goal is not to excuse the actions/inactions of officers.

    1. shartgargler , we have here in Minnesota and we’ve seen both videos already, and yes the police were definitely in the wrong! It was put on our police scanner page both videos were!

    1. True that. Although ‘fired’ they also know the police union and their chief will work hard to get them back their jobs and *with back pay* so they are essentially taking a vacation. If they can’t get their old job back they’ll just slither down the road to another town and get hired elsewhere.

    2. @smackdowner very DISTURBING video of POLICE SHOOTING 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿https://youtu.be/CksQxn3iFZg

  11. Fired!!!!? That’s nothing they should be in jail facing murder charges,so right now they are home relaxing gtfoh

    1. I agree. Also their chief and police union will try to get their jobs back with back pay. Even if the firing sticks, they take their Law Enforcement Credentials and go get another job in another department.

  12. EARNING THE HATE: Unfortunately, this is the standard of the police THUG force in all 50 states! Four police officers could NOT arrest ONE (1) non-violent man without killing him! We should all be outraged at this conduct displayed by officers who are hired to PROTECT AND SERVE the public! We, the taxpayers are paying for this police force; and now, we the taxpayers will have to pay the settlement for these officer’s behavior! Who is going to make these police officer’s ACCOUNTABLE for their actions? These police officers are already being given preferential treatment by not having been arrested, immediately, for their actions (that’s a clue). Government never has to follow the rules that they make, and we (the taxpayers) must follow. These officers will be protected by the full extent of the law, NOT prosecuted as they should be, but PROTECTED, as they are already being protected by being fired. Who was protecting the one (1) taxpayer from these four (4) police officers as they crushed him to death?

    1. Exactly, the police in America are the worst in the world, they are also emboldened by having a criminal racist bigot in the white house. However this has went on for to long. I just watched 41 shots on Netflix last week. 4 police officers shot a 17 year old 41 times for standing at the front door of his block. He’d committed no crime and had no weapon. Didn’t do a single thing wrong but was considered ‘suspicious’ it’s disgusting, none of those cops were convicted of anything!

    2. Hey dummy, not all police officers are like this. Stop your hyperbole and virtue signaling. People don’t take you seriously when you exaggerate.

    3. Shawna Weesner ,Yes we are taught it’s better to be judged by 12 than be carried by six! That’s what they’re taught in their training! So will now see how a jury of 12 will convict these officers! Good luck with that! That cop was involved in three shootings in less than three years the one who had his knee on the guys neck!

    1. @Ash Roskell he’s a trump member..seen on video at a rally for law enforcement shaking trumps hand then jumping up n down..srry I don’t have link..

    2. Harry Sacks : Free people own guns, slaves don’t. Overworked, underpaid, over taxed, YOU, Americas’ New Slave.

    3. Ash Roskell oh you completely misunderstood me. Im saying i dont understand how they needed a knee that long when the guy was cuffed and for a non violent or drugs allegations. Im assuming its obvious that the man was murdered.

  13. Any and all witnesses, who were there. Do the right thing, and testify against these police officers.

  14. Apparently kneeing an unarmed man to death is not a crime in America all you get is termination of employment.

    1. Had his hands in his pockets with knee on man’s neck, this cop had his full weight on this man neck! This has to be murder.
