Earl Simmons, the rapper better known as DMX, died at age 50. The Yonkers native exploded onto the rap scene with his chart-topping 1998 debut album and was the first artist to ever see his first five albums all hit number one on the Billboard charts. MSNBC's Ari Melber pays tribute to the iconic musician saying he was known for lyrics that were raw and blunt, but also urged fans to find God and weaved spiritual messages into his music.   1. As someone who saw X in 99 in Sacramento with my best friend, it is bizarre to see his passing covered on MSNBC in 2021. RIP, my brother. You changed a lot of things for many people.

  7. I grew up to this man’s music and connected with it in so many ways. Growing up in the murder capital of America Camden, New Jersey. DMX’s words helped me get through all the struggles, fights, evil thoughts and addictions. May you rest in peace my Dog!
