Mutated Coronavirus Under Scrutiny For Ease Of Transmission | All In | MSNBC

  1. Mutated COVID-19 Viral Strain in the U.S. and Europe 10 Times More Contagious than Original Strain
The mutation does not appear to make the virus any more deadly than it already is, but it does appear to make it significantly more contagious.

Researchers at The Scripps Research Institute have found that the strains spreading so quickly in Europe and the U.S. have a mutated S “spike” protein that makes it about 10 times more infectious than the strain that was originally identified in Asia.

    1. @Gary Santos I wonder if it has really mutated all that much, or is it just that they just got around to reveal older information.
First, no masks required, not even home made masks….. noe, at least here in California, you can’t enter any establishment without a bandana at the very least. Funny, a year ago, if you entered a liquor store, especially in the evening wearing a mask, you might have gotten shot.
Yeah I heard all about how they didn’t want people using all the n95 masks b4 the 1st responders and medical personnel…. couldn’t they have been more forthcoming from the git?

    2. @Russell Stahl Airborne has a different meaning, current thinking is that its droplet or contact spread, they are larger droplets that fall to the ground quite quickly < 6 feet. There is argument as to whether coronavirus survives once the droplets evaporates, if it does then it becomes airborne if it can float in aerosolized form until the droplet hits the ground and then can float for much longer distances. https://first10em.com/aerosols-droplets-and-airborne-spread/

  2. That’s how you win plague inc. you try to keep the symptoms down until everyone has it and save your DNA points. Once you have enough mutate to be super deadly

  3. Trumps CDC has to be sued for data and 🇺🇸 are free to travel and spread SOUNDS LIKE CHINA IN JANUARY

    1. We aren’t allowed to travel to a bunch of countries. Australia just closed their borders for the first time in 100 years. Since the Spanish flu

  4. spreads more quickly ==> will re-mutate more quickly ==> next mutation may be more deadly ==> stop the spread…. don’t try to say that all is well

    1. I said it a couple of days ago…:
The US is helpng the Virus to mutate. Thanks guys! 👍
      🤦‍♂️

    2. If you have never read The Stand by Stephen King, now would be a great time. Although it was about a quickly mutating flu (formulated in a Nevada? US government lab)

    1. 🙏❤️😷😷 “Just get used to it, I don’t care about the virus you should not either” President trump

    1. Yes, but we cannot forget McConnell, Graham, the entire Trumplican party who laughed at tRump’s racism, cruelty, ineptitude and greed as long as “the base” laughed with them. I believe they are going to try to force the Mutated Mango to resign, Pence will hold on to the evangelical vote and the Electoral College will do the rest. Vote All Repubs out of office!

    2. yes… born and grown in undeserved millions of dollars procured by his father… 🙂 that was a very dangerous experiment done by his father… and by the way, his lab was not in china 🙂

  5. It doesn’t matter if there’s a mutated or non mutated strain. If people stay home, and use masks the numbers would be a lot lower. Having presidential rallies without masks is just plain stupid.

    1. I was protesting, don’t blame me! Protesters can’t spread it, the WHO and my governor said so.

    2. Masks? Staying Home? OMG that would be the smart thing to do. Why would anyone want to do that?

    1. It mutates because it is an RNA virus, and thus single stranded, which is less stable than double-stranded DNA. The mutation they are discussing is a point mutation, a single codon change, at the end of the S1 protein (part of the spike). That makes the spike less liable to break off.

    1. It did magically disappear. It magically mutated into a new strain. The other one magically disappeared, we have a new virus now.

  6. Trump. ” quick, I need a vaccine for the virus so that I can have a political chance for a second term. So I don’t go to prison after the next guy becomes president.”

Corona. “this isn’t even my final form. “

  7. Don’t sing or speak loudly indoors. That will aerosolize the virus. China also found aerosolized in virus in small cramped spaces like very small bathrooms.

    1. No Joyce, it’s OUT OF CONTROL because Trump told his ignorant followers it was a hoax. And even after he grudgingly admitted there was problem, he has never not tried to downplay the seriousness of pandemic. He has the blood of 130,000 (and growing) Americans on his hands. How could anyone want to give this clown 4 more years?

  8. It’s 99% “harmless,” meaning we old people who are most harmed, should shut up and ignore it.
Unfortunately for Republicans, we old folks vote. We may be expendable, but we vote.
