Neal Katyal: ‘There’s Another Audience’ To Impeachment — Merrick Garland | The Last Word | MSNBC

    1. After Biden gets his Attorney General approved, and the FBI investigates enough to bring charges.

Right now the FBI is only filing small charges to get insurrectionists moving through the system.

  1. At this point, trump’s lawyers can just go in and say to these republicans: “Nice job you got there, hate to get primaried”. Just one sentence for their defense, and that is enough for these republicans to acquit trump.

    1. @Sam Says
Getting mad only proves how much truth hurts you.
Then you become that clown that you yourself are accusing others to be.

    2. As Mary Trump stated, “ Trump IS the Republican party. They have finally found someone who is willing to push the envelope, willing to shatter norms, in order to keep the republican party illegitimately in power. They embrace him, so we cannot let them pretend otherwise”.
The republican portion of the jury is tainted because they are his enablers and turn their heads the other way when the evidence is overwhelming that Trump incited this riot at our nations capital.

    3. @Diane Stone Republicans are the party of Trump, Q, white supremist, and everything else that is wrong with this country.

  2. Getting close to 500,000 dead from Covid-19 cases in the United States as of late February 2021.
Lots of felony charges to pick from for the 2017-2021 time frame, too

    1. It´s just that those criminal charges should turn to convictions before it´s too late. Otherwise it´s no good.

  3. Trump’s lawyer, Mr. Castor said in his opening statement, “A high crime is a felony, and a misdemeanour is a misdemeanour. After he’s out of office, you go and arrest him. The Department of Justice does know what to do with such people.”

That is a great suggestion from Trump’s own lawyer. Trump did say he knew only the best people. 😆

    1. Some constitutional person pointed out that Castor didn’t get it right about the high crime thingy.
I, myself, still haven’t figured it out.
Did you know that he’s the cousin of the Castor who defended Trump in impeachment no 1? The best ppl indeed

    2. Well, trump got the legal representation he deserves (or can afford). Unfortunately, his real defense is the corrupt bags of 💩 who plan to acquit. But its like Mr. Katyal said, justice aint done with trump yet in this case and any other.

  4. *Trump’s lawyers aren’t bad, he and with his actions, are merely indefensible.* The more it’s reported that “They’re bad lawyers”, the more we assume that there is some sort of defense we would believe.

    1. Good lawyers can also do a good job when the actions and guilt of the accused can not be denied. The least you can expect is a coherent story. You can elaborate on mitigating facts, clerici details. With a good lawyer, the listener will not ask themselves after the speech what he was trying to say, what his point was etc.

    1. I never did either. That’s why some people wind up as commentators on nationwide news and you and I don’t!

    1. Agreed
all Republicans who vote no are impling that this sedicuios action that caused murder and grievous crime
      Is acceptable
They have all put themselves outside of the law.
As elected representatives of the people they are sworn to protect the constitution and it is not just a system of honour it is also contractual. They have breeched their agreement and by supporting such violence and murder against the state, are complicit in all actions.
Trump stood down the National Guard which on its own is Derelection of Duty.

    2. @100krypton Yes, the Republicans have a problem:
      > everyone knows that there MUST BE consequences for those who would attempt to overthrow the US Government, otherwise what happened on January 6th will only prove to have been practice for those whose goal is to overthrow the US Government.

But they have also come to realize that “those” includes US Representatives and US Senators and they know that 139 Republican Representatives and 8 Republican Senators voted to object to accepting the lawful vote for Joe Biden and thus provided aid and comfort to the insurrectionists that ransacked the US Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the rule of law and our great democratic republic.
And as soon as they realized this, Republicans started moving to do what they have been doing for years now; – – – they are choosing party over country.
      SMH !

  5. One of the numerous problems regarding Trump’s *_SECOND_* Impeachment, is that many of Trump’s enablers are in the Senate and some are Trump’s partners in crime.

    1. Yes exactly, the Republicans have a problem:
      > everyone knows that there MUST BE consequences for those who would attempt to overthrow the US Government, otherwise what happened on January 6th will only prove to have been practice for those whose goal is to overthrow the US Government.

      SMH !

    2. Those that vote to acquit him will prove they were part of the insurrection. They should be removed from office for giving aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States

  6. You do not want to be on the wrong side of history with this one. America, and the world, is watching this trial and what each Senator will do/how they will vote from here.

    1. Unfortunately, gop senators don’t care. They’re totally not voting to convict. Myopic loyalists, that’s what they are.

    1. This is why we need to raise the Voice of the People to relentless levels. We need to call our own US Senators, regardless of position or party, to demand conviction. We need to ask our friends and families to do the same. Voice mails are the fastest, most dependable way to be certain we are heard. E mails often go to spam, and are never seen. Main Congressional switchboard 202-204-3121.

  7. Trump and his cronies think they’re entitled, to run our country! But the new Department of Justice is going to show them other!

  8. My thoughts too when i replied to a Fox interview with one of the lawyers:
Gonna be real painful if the next generations see that organized violence and inciting riots is OK. That crimes caught on video don’t matter. That if you disagree with someone it is ok to threaten them and attempt to murder them. If you succeed, you win. If you fail it isn’t a crime because you failed. And those aren’t spliced out of order tapes you paid liar. That video was simply edited together to show what was happening in two different places at the same time. It cleared up some things, but was pretty much the timeline i had put together from watching c-span that day and seeing the reporting this last month. When those barriers went down and by whom, the timing of the Pence tweet and how long the president watched it live on TV and did nothing were about my only questions. And the answers to those questions are damning beyond all reason. Almost TWO HOURS a President did nothing until it was obvious his mob didn’t get their targets, then he addressed the nation in an attempt to limit his own liability. His own daughter went looking for him to find out why he was doing nothing. The man has gone through so many billions of dollars in his life with only debt to show for it, it is clear all he cares about is power by any means. The 45th absolutely had his misinformed cult believing that he would show up with stormtroopers to finish the job once they got into the building. It is time for the adults to decide what message they want to send to the next generations. Burn down America if you don’t get everything your way is so absolutely the wrong message that it is astounding there is even a question of whether or not to do the right thing. Or we can go down in history as the cowards that threw it all away because some old men were too afraid of the fear mongers created by the 45th and an anonymous person on the Internet. But that won’t be the history either, because the young and the 210 million Americans that do not vote are brave enough to not allow any political party to surrender the country to a fraction of the population so that they can imprison and execute at will anyone that does not agree with them. So are we a moral, honorable nation? Or do we halt the wannabe nazis in other ways and then crush the useless, cowardly GOP out of existence? Nobody is going to imprison half our children just because they are different than others. Diversity is our strength and America will use that diversity to let humanity prevail, with you or without you. The violent and willingly useless can go live with Q, wherever that entity is from. Just get out of our way if you have no morals.
