Over 40 million US workers have filed for first-time unemployment 1

More than 40 million Americans have filed for first-time unemployment benefits since the coronavirus pandemic forced the US economy to shut down in March. One in four American workers has filed for unemployment insurance.
Another 2.1 million people filed initial jobless claims last week on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Department of Labor reported Thursday morning.
It was the tenth-straight week in which claims were in the millions. America had never recorded a single week of 1 million jobless claims prior to the coronavirus crisis.

@Big Bear Hungry Obama / Biden pulled us out of the great recession caused by Bush and Republican policies. They built the economy Trump inherited.
“In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat,” Trump told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer in a 2004 interview. “It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn’t be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats. …But certainly we had some very good economies under Democrats, as well as Republicans. But we’ve had some pretty bad disaster under the Republicans.” https://www.cnn.com/2015/07/21/politics/donald-trump-election-democrat/index.html

  2. I guess he didn’t want to talk about the wall street bobble, and the fact if anything goes wrong say a second peak that forces the economy to shut down again will likely turn this into an economic depression.

  3. I’m so tired of listening to these “experts” all they talk about big corporate ceo’s when they make well over 6 figures, who they need to talk about is the blue collar people who struggle everyday to pay their bills and continue to feed their families and themselves. It isn’t these people who are being hurt cuz they’re still making money, it’s those who work living paycheck to paycheck and it’s our government politicians failing their constituents that voted them into office that is FAILING

That’s why they trying to get everybody back to work so they can earn that paycheck

And getting a job right now is a straight competition or a hiring freeze! I have been applying and I am qualified for the work I am applying for but not getting a call back. I want to make the money I was before my company did PERMANENT mass lay offs due to Covid. So now my only option is to stay on unemployment until I find something or take a lower paying job. It’s not fair! I was up for promotion and just had a review and was approved for a raise before it all went to hell. But listen to everyone else the economy is going better…not from where I am sitting.

Riot, protest, strike, civil disobedience. What’s happening in Minneapolis is nothing compared to whats coming.

    • What’s coming is people typing in ALL CAPS. That’s it

Aidan Daniels which is sad because as a Minnesotan resident what’s happening in Minneapolis is heartbreaking. We all need to get along. It’s very uncommon for stuff like this to happen where I’m from so it’s very strange

    • Yep. The trillions of tax dollars thrown at the corporations to keep the markets happy did nothing for the people. Their looting will look very different.

    • This is how revolutions begin. Government overreach and greed.

LOL companies are going to use this as an excuse to pay workers way below their worth and then bury those savings off shores, which means they won’t be ‘investing’ in the US economy either.

  12. The first ever intentional destruction of the economy. Thanks government.

    • Destroying the economy means destroying our civilisation. We will all die because our civilisation will end in hunger, chaos, plundering and eventually war. But hey, health over economy

    • @Roger Wilco Yes, let’s blame those guys! While we’re at it. why don’t we give Trump credit for only 300 people dying in SoKo and keeping our numbers in line with theirs (1,800). He did a knock up job of protecting the economy Obama created.

    • @Big Bear Hungry Indeed! If Obama and Biden wouldn’t have created and presided over the greatest economic recovery in history, continued growth for 7 straight years, we wouldn’t have had so far to fall, so fast. Dirty bastards made Trump look bad when he crashed it like everything else he ever touched

    • @Timothy Day It wouldn’t matter if Jesus Christ himself was on CCTV releasing the virus in Times Square – Trump failed

    • @Lukie Luke It’s not a binary choice – this… or that. It’s not a zero sum game, win… or lose. It’s a situation created by bad and no management. Now we have to dig out. TEST, TRACE, SEGREGATE be the fucken boss, own the dman virus. Trump has surrendered (us) to it. He lost. We need a leader

  13. The US economy is in shambles and it’s not gonna get better any time soon

“The US economy is in shambles and it’s not gonna get better any time soon”
Happens every time we elect Republicans.
Clinton handed Bush Jr. a $127.3 billion surplus.

Bush Jr. handed Obama a $1.4 trillion deficit and a great recession.

Obama had reduced Bush Jr.’s deficit to just $492 billion. Pulled us out of the great recession and built the economy Trump inherited.
Trump’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget projects the debt would increase $4.8 trillion during his first term. But that was before COVID. It is a historic level of debt and at a rate faster then anything we have ever seen. Headed to hell like a rocket sled on rails.

    • Vietnam – It’s a real disease orchestrated with cherry picking data and fear mongering to create panic. That’s why everything you hear from the media and politicians is “keep you safe”. This was all an opportunity created at a very convenient time. China getting squeezed and feeling pinched in the market, the Dems not gaining any ground with their failed investigations, lots of questions coming from the IG investigation into the Russia probe. All this conveniently happens in time to create havoc in an up coming election. Just an idea and there is a lot of motive for it to happen.

maybe he meant 200K dead and if the murderers get let off their crimes it will be boom in every city across the us.
Oh and when China ends the trade deal boom goes the economy.
      hahahahaha

There are clear. Guidelines, but states have to determine where they are in process. You can’t do anything nationwide with this situation it needs to ve examined at the state and local level
