'Partisan BS': Wisconsin Holds In-Person Voting During COVID-19 Pandemic - Day That Was | MSNBC 1

Voters in Wisconsin lined up at polling places on Tuesday, forced to choose between staying home to avoid coronavirus or risking their health by casting their ballot. The state’s Democratic governor had tried to delay the election until June, but his order was overturned by the conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court. Voters who had applied for absentee ballots but didn’t receive them by Tuesday had to go to the polls. In a 5-4 party line decision, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling that would have extended the deadline for absentee voting. Aired on 4/7/2020.

  1. This is wrong on so many levels. This pandemic has been handled very poorly from the beginning. 🙄

    • George Three Yes but since when do we trust China? On anything? Never right? But just now we did? And BTW almost the entire world banned travellers from China before the US did.
The downplaying of the situation and a miraculously disappearing of the corona virus was suggested by someone as well. Yeah shifting blame is not gonna work when everyone is guilty.

    • Terry Tater Why is the Obama administration doing studies on a corona virus? Years before? This is a novel corona virus so no.

    • George Three No correlation at all.

    • @Kat J Other corona viruses exist so I wouldn’t say it’s not plausible. I’m certain they are named after the symptoms and this one shares symptoms with flu and cold. If we don’t trust China perhaps someone should have at least investigated the whistle blowers from China that revealed this thing in December.

    • So what?

  2. I’ve got a bad feeling that Wisconsin will become the next covid hotspot.

*Why couldn’t it have been delayed?!!*

    Say that again! And louder!

    • @Cosmo Strangelove …You’re truly pathetic!

    • The Divided States of America

    • @Cosmo Strangelove but yet Trump want all his supporters to go out and vote in this crisis and that’s exactly what they did and your winners are the Democrats we are tired of his b******* but yet you want me to put my trust in a man who cannot tell the truth save his life

    • @Cosmo Strangelove trump is not Democrat. What a stupid thing to say. The virus is not political.

    • Jeremiah Brown | April 15, 2020 at 3:44 PM | Reply

Cosmo Strangelove Democrat Republican when are u going to realize they both just playing us they both are murderers thieves and liars trump and Hillary used to be friends

  4. Trump trying to dodge any responsibility for his actions, like he was dodging the draft. Captain bone spurs claims he’s a cheerleader for America. I’m sorry but we don’t need a cheerleader. We need a leader.

    • @Onlytymewilltell 😜😂😂

    • @Henry Boulder America started off testing people for the coronavirus at a slower rate than most other developed countries, yet the number of people diagnosed with Covid-19 in the US has still been rising steadily, more quickly than our peers abroad. We don’t yet know the full extent of the outbreak, but America has become the focal point of the coronavirus pandemic.
The US health system was less prepared for a pandemic than those of other wealthy nations. A high uninsured rate, high out-of-pocket health care costs, and low medical system capacity combined to make the country more vulnerable to a pathogen before the coronavirus ever came to our shores. America’s lax response in the early days of the outbreak only compounded those problems.

It’s a law to vote on that day so ur saying it’s ok for democrats to break the law

    • @Jerri Jenkins So was you born this stupid or do you have to work extra hard at it? If we have to explain it to you, you clearly lack moral judgment, or the mental capacity to reason. Not to mention you are slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. You’re spare parts aren’t you bud? And why do you people never show your face? Are you ashamed? I would be. I guess you’re a coward like your draft dodging con man Captain bone spurs. Grow a set snowflake, do you need a safe space?

@Earl Gray as if your comment sound intelligent. None sensical ramblings. Belittling people. How progressive of you.

  5. He should be arrested. Use of full PPE for for an event not neeed to be taken while the United States under a National Emergency. His state is in a “stay at home order,” and here he is participating in an event, gathering a large group of more then 10 people.

PPE needs to be reserved for medical personnel, there’s a world shortage, why does he think he can waste it on himself, regardless if he paid the PPE himself or not

    • That clip was woefully edited. Why not at the very least let him complete the whole sentence.

    • @Legal Eagle curious do you have a link to the original clip.

Regardless it does not give him an excuse to waste all the PPE he’s wearing. Unless he’s is somehow dealing with a potential infected person, but that unless he had a medical background he is not much useful

    • David Tran Vos is a spineless little man who hid behind Walkers skirt ( like Fitzpatrick ) and now behind
Hospital issued only, PPE. What a selfish asshat clown.

    • @Legal Eagle Sure it was edited, but it doesn’t change the context of what was said, and what kind of equipment he’s wearing.

    • Yaash it changes content because it was probably out of context.

  6. Very sad that these people were compelled to leave their homes because of political games.

    • Trump said if we mail in our votes the republicans would lose. And himself. And not because it’s not safe. But because people will vote Repubs and him out.

    • Denise Borchardt | April 8, 2020 at 5:54 PM | Reply

@AF H -Tony Evers is responsible. He was questioned about the upcoming voting and whether it should be delayed. This questioning happened back when shutdowns were placed in effect. He said no. He waited last minute and now acts like he’s the victim! A decision was made to let him know that he can’t do this last minute. He put us WI residents @ risk!

    • S Lee Sanders | April 9, 2020 at 8:33 AM | Reply

NaxieGaming in the future this will change the nation and some laws. We are a nation of laws. Don’t blame the ones who enforce the law..when we start picking the laws we enforce we are in trouble with double standards. If you don’t like the law have the states change the law. This is one of the laws that will be changed. We are a digitized nation and going out to vote is something that will eventually go away… like snail mail .

    • Robert Allardice | April 9, 2020 at 9:37 AM | Reply

S Lee Sanders Depends if you are rich or poor, your colour and what state you live in. You can get shot for not using a turn signal in some states!

    • We don’t buy into your stupid games Naxie.

  7. The judges that voted for this should face a firing squad

    • @Wicker Baskets Please don’t tell Arthur to read Muller report, no can do I betwhen he has put the product on the shelf at Wallmart he goes by using color code.

    • @Mac Mcleod Get a grip. The primary election means nothing. It’s not going to choose the democrat candidate. People are manipulating you to get angry for nothing.

    • @Jeff Gibson well the only thing they’ve succeeded in doing is manipulated me into voting blue no matter who and no matter what. I can’t believe they forced those Wisconsin voters to vote in person during the pandemic when so many millions of Republicans have voted by mail.
That was flat out murderous and the voters Will Remember come election day.

    • Jerri Jenkins | April 13, 2020 at 8:36 AM | Reply

The judges upheld state law that the democrats made 4yrs ago

    • @Eric Ciaramella that’s just STUPID

  8. Remember folks: the Republicans are…(pause for a laugh) PRO-LIFE.

  9. The Democrats have to take the house AND the Senate so they can restore respect and trust.Dont forget, both houses. Take your country back.

    • @Dat Che because if you don’t vote for the candidate that Sanders endorses oh, and I know he will because he’s a man of honesty and principles, then you are supporting Donald Trump and might as well be wearing a Maga hat now.
If Donald Trump wasn’t president, the pandemic response team would have been in place. We know that a wonk like Clinton would have had the contracts and maintenance up to date on the ventilator. We know that the Clinton Administration would have been fully staffed with competent professionals including Republicans.
If Clinton had been elected, tens of thousands of American citizens would be alive today who are instead dead due to Trump’s actions, incompetence, failure to adequately staff, and intentional refusal to take the responsibility that job entails. While the plague spread, he played golf and said the plague wasn’t dangerous.

    • @Mac Mcleod . They shifted the electability polls by 25 points in 3 weeks. Bernie is on the ticket or I’m voting trump. Biden has absolutely no chance of winning. I’m voting trump and when they round you up, blame me.. I don’t care. Biden doesn’t support anything I support and I’m progun… He said he’d veto m4a! Lol .
This unbelievable. Fix it, without me

    • @Terry Tater That has nothing to do with my original response though. I was a Bernie supported before he dropped out. Now I am just wasting my time voting for anyone.

    • Mac Mcleod uh sander left the 2020 presidential elect today!

    • @Dat Che And now he will likely campaign to support the democratic party candidate as he did in 2016.

Since you don’t live in the USA, you probably didn’t know that up until 4 days before the election, the governor (A Dem) was full steam ahead for in-person voting. Once his team stated looking at the absentee numbers he did a 180 turn to try and stop the in-person voting. The courts then followed constitutional law relative to election laws.

    • S Lee Sanders | April 8, 2020 at 3:53 PM | Reply

Kelli Barnhouse we should never place ourselves under government control. The government is supposed to be under our control.. they work for me. They represent me. They do as I request. This is a representative government. Not the military, a dictatorship, a monarchy and is not communism. You are free to do as you wish in this country unless you are under military and or judicial restraint… if you want the government to control your lives then there are plenty of dictatorship and communism around the world to help you in that endeavor… Ps did the republicans make you leave home to go vote?

Are you okay with postponing the Presidential election as well?

    • I am center-left, but I have to agree with the Supreme Court ruling. The governor doesn’t have the power to alter election dates by decree, nor does a district judge have to power to alter mail in ballot rules. Gov. Evers was correct when he said only the legislature has that authority. The problem here was fairly reprehensible political gaming by the GOP member’s of the state senate who refused adjust the election in any way in hopes of suppressing the vote in Madison and Milwaukee where the virus has been most disruptive.

    • @Gaming with Malachai79 shouldn’t the biggest advocate for absentee voting himself be voting absentee? You contradicted yourself there talking about God given rights our forefathers fought for if your against voting during a “pandemic” 😅

Notice how Kelly isnt filing law suits after he lost, like she did when she thought she was losing to him??!!!
