Peru's Congress voted to remove President Pedro Castillo from office Wednesday and replace him with the vice president, shortly after Castillo tried to dissolve the legislature ahead of a scheduled vote to remove him. The national ombudsman's office called Castillo's attempt to dissolve the Congress a coup. Lawmakers then voted 101-6 with 10 abstentions to remove Castillo from office for reasons of “permanent moral incapacity.”

Shortly before the vote, Castillo announced that he was installing a new emergency government and called for the next round of lawmakers to develop a new constitution for the Andean nation. He said during a televised address that he would rule by decree meanwhile, and ordered a nightly curfew starting Wednesday night.

Castillo also announced that he would make changes in the leadership of the judiciary, police and constitutional court. The head of Peru's army then resigned, along with four ministers, including those over foreign affairs and the economy. Castillo took action as his opponents in Congress moved toward a third attempt to remove him from office.

    1. @Johnathan Jarisch yes he absolutely did. He knew what he was saying and he knew exactly how his hardcore supporters would take it. He refused to condemn the riot and tell his crazed brainwashed supporters to stop until 3 hours in. He also knew Mike Pence didn’t have the power to overturn a free and fair election but threw him under the bus anyways.

And now he says he’ll pardon the extremists that have been convicted and actually tried to overthrow the election while also trying to kill Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, and others.

He also attempted to instill alternate electors to falsey claim Trump won in critical counties when in fact he didn’t

    2. @Ian LesiukYou have no proof that Trump knew that what he said would start a riot. I have proof that he said to march peacefully and to stop rioting. How am in the wrong here? The democrats also said stuff that could have possibly started hundreds of riots and an actual insurrection, when are you going to condemn them too. I would like the election to be overturned, am I an extremist too? None of the rioters are charged with murder nor attempted murder. You really need that Trump derangement syndrome looked at.

    3. @Johnathan Jarisch you’re right, there is no solid legal proof that could hold up in court. But it doesn’t take much effort to know that he knew exactly what he was doing. Just because he said “peaceful” doesn’t mean a thing if literally everything else he says insinuates rioting and attacking congress

    4. @Johnathan Jarisch No one is going to be that stupid to believe your made up history that he didn’t encourage Jan. 6th when he wanted to attend the attack on the Capitol. FOH

    1. @Pyrus a wannabe tyrant is a wannabe tyrant, regardless of what party they claim to be. Trump tried to overthrow the Constitution…he’s the same as this bozo.

    1. Thats what you get after you kick out the USA and CIA from the country. Suddenly countries all over the world have peaceful transfers of power now

  1. Prayers to the people of Peru 🇵🇪 There’s a fifth column right here in the US who want to do the same and they aren’t even hiding it anymore. Thank god for the midterms but we must remain vigilant!
