You don’t live in an ideal world. Accept it and adapt. World wide shortage of masks. Factories are running 24/7. We cannot just build factories with machinery and supply chain in a month or two.
There is a WAY TO STERILIZE masks.
Store them for a week.
Virus expires in 3-4 days. Run some tests to see how long it takes for a mask to become safe to use again. 10 days should be an overkill.
Or accelerate this by gentry heating them to 140F in a drier like contraption.
None of it involves using liquids.

@K G What is dangerous is that Trump and people who think like him, don’t seem to think this is such a big deal. That’s because when you’re a narcissist and lack empathy, nothing concerns you unless it concerns YOU. Trump boasted today like he always does when he thinks he has something important to say. One of the boastful statements he made was that he is rich and doesn’t have to worry like everyone else. He said he gets it. How nice of him to rub that in all of our faces at such a crucial time when people are losing their jobs and don’t know what they’re going to do. I sure hope he sends all of these unfortunate people a substantial check. It won’t last long but it will be better then nothing. Seems odd to me that of all the people he has been in contact with, including the Mar A Lago, in which some were sitting right next to him and already infected with the virus. Yet he goes unscathed and unaffected. Melania has been out and about too and defies contamination.

I work in the environmental remediation field where i’ve dealt with things like asbestos, arsenic and cyanide. These N95 masks definitely work but they are basically the lowest level protection other than those useless surgical masks. I’m curious why there isnt a conversation about providing PPE that is of a higher protection factor. There are many different options from the reusable half masks with N95 filters as well as filters that provide much more protection than the N95 filters. There are the Air Purifying Respirators (APR) that offer full face protection…think breaking bad. You also have Power Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) that feature a blower that draws air through cartridges or filters with the blower attached either Face piece mounted or belt mounted. There is even higher levels or supplied air respirators that could be used in the worst case triage scenarios. I’ve used all of the things listed above and they would work for the situation we find ourselves in. I find it frustrating that we are mucking about focusing on just these N95 paper masks when we should be using every piece of PPE available.
And Dr. Fauci is thinking: “I need to get out of here”….

@Al 72 It would probably take a massive logistical system, time, labour and money to do this. It is likely it takes less time and manpower to manufacture new ones. So it is probably wiser to just help increase the speed of manufacturing. It like carpenters today… at least where I live…they never take time to sharpen (good quality) knives when they have become dull. The time it takes would cost them (their clients) more money then just buying new ones in large quantities.
