Roseau, Dominica – February 7, 2008………… Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit was among thousands of Dominicans who gathered at the new Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Wednesday evening to witness the World Cup qualifying football match between Dominica and Barbados.

The ecstatic crowd of about 7000 went into a wild frenzy when UK-based Dominican forward, Richard Pacquette scored the first goal in the 20th minute of the encounter. Their joy was short-lived however as Barbados equalised in the 42nd minute with a goal from Jeffrey Williams.

The second leg is scheduled for Bridgetown, Barbados on March 26, 2008. Should Dominica beat Barbados in that make or break duel, the prize will be a showdown with the United States of America in June, a prospect that has many Dominicans licking their lips in anticipation.

The Dominica-Barbados match was the first international football match held at the new stadium. The Windsor Park Sports Stadium, dubbed “The People’s stadium” was financed through grant funds by the Government of the People’s Republic of China at a cost in excess of $36 million.  (Ends)
