PM SKERRIT TO ADDRESS OFFICIAL LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF CHILDREN OF ITASSI REUNION 2008

prime_minister_skerrit_at_vieille_case_village_council_inauguration_jan_2008.jpgRoseau, Dominica – January 23, 2008………………..The official launching of the Children of Itassi Reunion 2008 this Sunday, January 27th 2008 will include the keynote address by Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the Vieille Case constituency, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

 

The theme for the Children of Itassi Reunion 2008 is Celebrating our local and National leadership.

 

After the success of the Children of Itassi Reunion 2004,  Children of Itassi Reunion 2008 is being organised and will feature activities running from July 27th-August 4th 2008 and October 27th- November 4th 2008.

The Reunion is intended to mobilise persons from Vieille Case living in the area as well as those living in other parts of Dominica and in the diaspora to come together in support of the community’s development and advancement.

 

Other addresses at the official launching  will come from the  Minister for Community Development, Gender Affairs, Culture and Information, Hon. Loreen Bannis-Roberts, Chairman of the National Reunion Committee, Mr. Hubert Charles,  Coordinator of the Children of Itassi Reunion Committee, Father Herman Sharplis and Assistant Coordinator, Ms. Erin Leblanc, daughter of the late Edward Oliver Leblanc, Dominica’s first Premier.

 

vieille_case_primary_school_students_perform_at_inauguration_jan_2008.jpgThe launching will also feature performances from the Vieille Case school choir and the Vieille Case cultural group. Another highlight of the activity will be the launching of the Reunion song.

 

The official launching will take place Under the Mango in Vieille Case and will begin at 4pm. The event will be carried live on DBS radio and can be accessed at www.dbcradio.net.  

 

A number of other villages across Dominica are also planning their own Reunion activities in 2008. At the same time the entire country, Dominica is celebrating Reunion Year this year on the occasion of the country’s 30th Anniversary of Independence.  (End)
