President Donald Trump became the third president in United States history to become impeached on Wednesday night. The president was impeached on two articles, abuse of power and obstructing Congress, with both votes held mostly along party lines. Now, the Senate will hold a trial on whether or not to remove the president from office, likely beginning in January. Aired on 12/19/19.

@Chris King The attorney general will get to the facts. The House passed Articles of Impeachment. Its up to them to transmit them to the Senate for trial. No articles, no trial. The articles must be an ironclad case. The Senate is under no obligation to find guilt. It’s the House’s job to show that.

Impeachment is the act of charging, not convicting or removing. It carries no weight. He has to be tried and convicted by a two-thirds majority in the Senate to be removed. Technically, saying he’s impeached is correct. It just doesn’t mean much.
He must be convicted by the Senate to be removed and if convicted he must be removed. However, banning him from running again is up to the discretion of the Senate.
