Public Health And Teaching Experts Weigh In On Plans To Safely Reopen Schools | MSNBC 1

Dr. Zeke Emanuel, Vice Provost of Global Initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania, and Lily Eskelsen Garcia, the president of the National Education Association, join Andrea Mitchell to discuss plans on reopening schools. Dr. Emanuel says that it can be done safely, but needs a lower level of cases in the community combined with mitigation practices like masks and social distancing. Eskelsen Garcia criticizes the Trump administration's handling of the issue, saying that "they reopened schools and have no plan." Aired on 07/13/2020.

You’ll need to tell trump when he send Barron back to school then our children will go back to school

@Dementia Joe Fingers Trump grabbed Epstien girls by the p@ssy. Fact.

    • @Dementia Joe Fingers “Biden thinks he is tough because he doesn’t even know how old he is” I think I know what you mean, but it’s not quite clear. Is the cutting humor supposed to be that Biden, by his not feeling old, is somehow less tough than a tired old guy who thinks he is super weak? It’s like you named Biden’s source of strength. Was that your intent?

*5 Big Government, America-Destroying Schemes Democrats are Proposing During COVID-19 Crisis*

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” It’s an oft-repeated quote from Democratic politician Rahm Emanuel. It was November of 2008 when Barack Obama had just won the presidential election in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. People often forget the second part of the former Obama Chief of Staff’s famous quote, but it’s actually even more telling.

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” he told the Wall Street Journal and followed it with, “And what I mean by that, it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

As our nation now faces enormous and unprecedented disruptions do to the reactions to public health, Democrats are doing what Democrats do. They are exploiting fear and temporary disruptions to fundamentally transform and ultimately destroy our nation.

Here are just five, America-destroying proposals that we would never seriously consider but are now floated as serious policy proposals during this crisis.

Remote learning PERIOD!! This would still leave faculty at risk as well as their own families. This isn’t hard to get!

  3. We could have easily reopened schools ON TIME if we had competent leadership who actually listened to science! If the anti-maskers would have preached BEHIND a mask vs without one, schools would be reopening ON TIME!!!!

  4. Betsy DeVos is the most unqualified Secretary of Education in American history.

Funding for our schools has already been cut under Trump’s corrupt and derelict  administration. So we can thank Trump and Betsy DeVos for budget cuts to our education system.

Trump: ” I love the uneducated, and the uneducated loves me back.”

The last thing we need, and the last thing the world needs, is an even more ignorant America.

Just send the kids to jail, they can catch it quicker

  6. I think all republicans should send their kids back to school if they want. We’ll see how that works out for you and go from there.

  7. MatchstalkMan | July 13, 2020 at 3:18 PM | Reply

Every secretary that trump installed is incompetent in their particular field. Their actions are contrary to the best interests of that field. They only got there because they gave money to trump’s campaign.

  8. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN WITHOUT TRUMP!

  9. So when the teachers are in the hospital because they’ve been infected with the virus, are the kids going to teach themselves? When bus drivers are in the hospital because they’ve been infected with the virus, are kids going to drive themselves to school? And exactly how do you practice social distancing on a school bus?

    • Semper Fortis | July 13, 2020 at 4:18 PM | Reply

It would be cheaper and safer to supply every child with a tablet so they can E-learn from home.

Every parent in my community is homeschooling during the COVID crisis…. because it’s better to take temporary countermeasures, than send an entire generation of children to be killed by COVID. I wish politicians would stop using kids as political pawns.

….And that’s not even considering the secondary infections that they’ll bring upon their families.

*Biden on capital gains tax: “We should raise the tax back to 39.6 percent”*
      Aug 2019 https://www.atr.org/biden-capital-gains-tax-we-should-raise-tax-back-396-percent

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden said he’d like to raise the capital gains tax rate to 39.6 percent, a near doubling of the current 20 percent.

*“I believe we should, in fact, the capital gains tax should be at what the highest minimum tax should be, we should raise the tax back to 39.6 percent instead of 20 percent,”* Biden said

Betsy could be a substitute teacher!

  10. ”The trust of the uneducated is the liar’s most useful tool:/”
    Trump: ”I love the uneducated!”

  11. Betsy DeVos did a lot of mental gymnastics on the Sunday talk shows to argue that it’s ok for the Federal Government to demand schools open fully while at the same time, passing the buck to the local districts to deal with the afternath of potential outbreaks.
It’s almost as if they don’t actually care about the safety of kids and teachers. 🤔

The best reason for not sending kids back to school is the inability of DeVos to explain what the plan is to open safely. She is just another inept spineless sycophant playing to an audience of one.

We can’t even get our adults to wear masks and wash their hands and stay a safe distance from others. Also when a class room already had too many students for the rooms how are we going to just suddenly double or triple it class room numbers to safely have space. And then the extra teachers. I mean it’s crazy.

  15. Betsy DeVos should be hit with class action lawsuits from parents, teachers, and school bus drivers for criminal negligence.

    • can you add attempted murder??? And covid is still mutating and its not mutating into a less contagious form…….
      ………..everyone has the internet…

…yet no one seems to be able to search 1918 pandemic, and what happened when people quit being careful and it came back tens times stronger killing millions

All teachers are nowadays are really day babysitters…the kids don’t learn anything new…most kids get a nutritional meal at school ..some parents make wrong choices in nutrition value by buying a pizza for themselves and just give kids chicken nuggets while watching bachelor while they don’t take part in their kids learning activities

    • Betsy needs to resign.

  16. The states need money and I bet they’re not going to get it! I’d tell Trump to stick it and do remote learning!

Janie Buck: Yes. Old abandoned schools could have been refurbished and be opened. Substitute teachers needing work would have no trouble finding it. If they are going to be full-time teachers for a semester, then they should be paid like full-time teachers and get the same benefits if they don’t already have them to encourage them to get back into the profession full time. That would have cost a lot of money, but would have been counterbalanced by parents being able to go back to work (assuming there had been a plan in place for that too) and needing less child care, fewer unemployment benefits from the Treasury. We have had months to get ready for this, but again, no national strategy and guidelines to determine which districts can cope on their own (because there is no outbreak there) and which would need to remake the system, supported not just by the bureaucrats and experts, but by the politicians on both sides of the aisle. As usual, Republicans want services but don’t want government to pay for them because that would require raising taxes on millionaires. Republican politicians are mostly millionaires themselves (as well as a bunch of Democrats, but it doesn’t stop the rich Dems from wanting to raise taxes on themselves), and convince their followers that they are just one more tax cut for the rich away from becoming rich themselves. It’s such a good line to use in a country where the only thing that counts any more is how much money you have, that people are desperate to believe in trickle down economics, even when four tax cuts later, they are no better off, but the already rich are much better off.

i would image that before a student enters the classroom the parents will have to sign a waiver which explains that they will not bring a lawsuit against the governor, state, federal government or the school board if the child gets ill while attending classes. mark my words, they will propose this waiver.
