    1. @California Wildfires lennon was against every single thing conservative republican’s stood for EVERY PART OF CONSERVATSM lennon was and still is a liberal icon….how old are you ? you went eevn born when CONSERVATIVES REIED TO EPELL HIM FROM THE STATES FOR His LIBERAL views if your a conservative hold your ears to Lennons LIBERAL Lyrics and ideology because your a CONSERTAIVE very anti-lennon

  1. Like many Americans, I first heard the news from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football. It was a very surreal moment.

    1. I remember that announcement as well. I may be wrong but I think Cosell was against making that announcement and had to be talked in to making it. It’s just sad.

  2. I remember exactly what I was doing when John Lennon was killed and when Michael Jackson’s death was announced. What a waste.

    1. Me too. Michael Jackson’s was eerie, because I was meeting my ex mother-in-law at the airport and I just happened to be wearing a 40 year old Michael Jackson t shirt. She saw my shirt and commented about how sad it was that we lost him, I was like “WHAT???” I had not heard the news!

    2. Me too exactly. My girlfriend at the time called to tell me. Shoulda married her! 40 years ago is a long time.

    3. @California Wildfires You were actually fooled by that spoof? That’s not John Lennon, and it’s not even a good impression. This was a comedy bit that was recorded recently. You trumpsters will believe anything, SAD!

  3. 40 years ⁉️
I remember waking up for school and the radio playing “A Day In The Life”, and as the song closes at the end, that sudden ending with the orchestra, the dj saying “John Lennon, dead at the of 40”.

    1. I was 13 and also waking up to go to school. My mother came into my room and yelled “John Lennon was shot and killed last night”.
Don’t remember much until I entered the school bus. Everyone on that bus knew I was the biggest Beatles fan in the district.
“Have you heard it?”, they all said.
I couldn’t take it. I went off the bus at the next stop and walked home and didn’t go to school for the rest of that week.
Fortunately my teacher was a great fan as well, so I received no punishment.

It was an awful experience. And I still mourn that day.

  4. I have “Imagine” in John’s handwriting tattooed on my right wrist. I think of John every single day. I miss you John. It’s hard to believe you have been gone as long as you were here. His song “Isolation” should be THE song of 2020.
RIP John. You will be remembered forever.

    1. @California Wildfires He must have been a republican with a soul, heart and socisl consciousness then, because repugnicans now want to be racist, anti-woman and basically fasciest now. My how time changes in 40 years! I was a republican that voted for Reagan and Bush Senior too. Never again will any repugnucan get my vote. They are extinct like the Whig Party. Sheesh.

    2. @akahina WHO IS IS NOT ANTI-FASCIST??

      Fascism Definition:

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

    3. @California Wildfires Trump and most repugnicans are now fascist. We have a deplorable anti-American, anti-democracy, racist, dictator wannabe oligarch as president that has convinced 40% of Americans that covid (which has killed 185,000+ Americans) is a hoax with his lies and inaction. He wants to jail his opposition ir worse. To quote John Lennon, “I don’t believe in Hitler”.

    1. @Mary Rose Kent What point does that make? Mahatma Gandhi was not a citizen
either. Both were revolutionaries. With logarithmic power to persuade American votes than you or I.

  5. John Lennon had apparently made peace with himself, his past, and the world at the time of his death. How sad he was shot when he enjoyed so much being a daddy to 5 yr old Sean.

  6. I was 18 years old at the time.
The next morning I went out walking in the snow here in Chicago and it was such an empty feeling.
    So sad and senseless.

    1. I was 24.

I can still remember a hot summer day when my friends down the street and I were in their brand-new (not-yet-used) garbage can filled with cold water singing “She loves you yah-yah-yah,” The Beatles’ first hit in the US.

  7. I clearly remember the moment when I heard that he had been shot. It was during my 7th grade art class that morning at school in Dallas, Texas. It is hard to believe that it’s been 40 years, but time flies. Rest In Peace, John.

  8. I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard of John’s murder. It still saddens and baffles me. “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

  9. Odd!
I never realised the fact that he died the year I was born! R. I. P. Lennon, your memory and legacy lives on❤️

  10. A friend sent me the clip of Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football announcing that Lennon had died. It got me teary. 40 years later.

    RIP John. 🙏

  11. In an age before Social Media, I got the news from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football.
“I read the news today – oh, boy.”

  12. I didn’t know until the next morning when I turned on the radio on my way to work. I knew something was wrong because the DJs of NYC were oddly quiet and somber. When I heard what happened……well I need not continue. It left a hole in my heart. 💔
