Reminder: Shudowns Are To Reduce Contacts And Control Spread | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

With the coronavirus spiraling out of control in many states, Rachel Maddow reminds viewers that the point of a shutdown in response to the coronavirus is to reduce the number of personal contacts people have, to make it easier to trace their contacts if they test positive. Aired on 6/30/2020.

  1. This is happening because we just so happen to have, the dumbest human being on the planet as our President. This genius tried convince us that the virus was a hoax created by the deep state media just to make him look bad. He then tried to fight this deep state hoax with magic. And when that didn’t work, he tried to convince us that injecting ourselves with Lysol was the key to defeating the virus. And when that didn’t work, he simply said f….k it, and gave up. He went and held a rally, and then he started playing golf.

    1. “..just happen to have”

      Not really ‘just’ happening, though.
The same uninformed/complacent/arrogance/apathy, the same ‘American Exceptionalism we are better than the rest’ attitude is behind both trump being in the WH and the country’s “response” to the pandemic.

    2. @David J – I guess I missed the reports of 3 black people shot dead at the White House in the past 2 weeks, refresh my memory, please?

    3. @Don Hardcastle Do you think Gowdy will get to be involved this time?

After all his last investigation was **only** given 4 years……before finding nothing so maybe this one can run even longer.
      5 years maybe? 10?
      Endless, fruitless investigating!

    4. Its not just trump. Its The GOP and stead fast trump supporters that keep the virus going.

    1. Oh, no, the situation is much worse now than in March. The last five days have all been worse than the worst day in March.

    2. @Jo-Erlend Schinstad exactly! It’s March level transmission, BUT instead of a 100 or so with the virus spreading it, you now have 100,000 or so with the virus spreading it!

Unchecked reproduction rate for this virus is R4! That’s 4 people infected for every 1 person that gets the virus!

  2. Oh how the tables have turned!? Trump was bragging how he banned Europe from entering America…look who’s laughing now!

    1. Jay Gray I wonder why we have such a problem with illegal aliens, if what you say is true.

    2. @B. J. Glenn Probably because YOU are the ones destroying peoples homes, country and lives more than any other country in the world, so those people have a right to expect something from their killers.

  3. Dr. Fauci said that even with a vaccine it will be only effective in approximately 70% of people who get the vaccine. For older People or people with susceptible attributes will contract the disease. That will have a lasting effect on the economy for the long term.

    1. @Ash Roskell as KS has explained the “cold” is not 1 virus! There’s 4 coronaviruses in their just for starters & then the rhinoviruses etc. Each time you get a cold, it is a different virus & each one different enough from the others to not give you immunity to the others by getting it. Just like getting Spanish flu didn’t give immunity to Swine flu, they are different viruses

    2. @David Bright I totally agree that 70% is certainly not a guarantee for herd immunity, but, once it reaches that point, combined with already achieved immunity via natural exposure, there should be some level of reduction in outbreak size & as more get it, herd immunity will rise higher. This is all, of course allowing that a functional vaccination is developed & it’s not addressing the issue over the time it takes until that happens & even once the vaccine’s approved, it’s not right there & in everyone instantly, lots of doctors appointments or large gatherings of people needed to administer it, is going to take significant time. LOTS of deaths between now & then!

There’s also still the kids not getting sick issue that has been ignored since the world lost control of the virus, but early hypothesis on why was that no previous exposure to a coronavirus meant no primed immune system, so no cytokine storms or other symptoms. If this hypothesis is right (and I haven’t seen a more likely one put forward) then that raises some serious concerns about what happens if there is a serious mutation in this virus, enough that people who get this one can get it again. It also may cause problems with the vaccine

    3. @Uniloop It’s estimated that 15% of people who get it are asymptomatic actually, not 60%, but in reality, at this stage there is FAR too little information on numbers to really have a clue how many people are asymptomatic. We know that most kids under 10 are, but that’s about all we really know on that (and even there we probably don’t know if they are truly asymptomatic or just low symptomatic & symptoms not noticed & there doesn’t appear to be an difference in infectiousness between low symptomatic & high symptomatic cases

  4. We are in this mess because Americans don’t respect one another, Petriotism to God and Country but not to my fellow Citizen. People wear your f***** mask and practice social distancing. Do Your part, save lives.

    2. @Crystal Giddens From The Guardian newspaper, UK. ‘Sweden’s chief epidemiologist and the architect of its light-touch approach to the coronavirus has acknowledged that the country has had too many deaths from Covid-19 and should have done more to curb the spread of the virus.

      Just saying……

    3. What ever happened to ” Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country ”
This is what donnie should be saying, not inject bleach and come to my indoor rally in a corona hot spot.
I think it could be called genocide

  5. Land of the free, home of the impossibly stupid. How about we just get rid of warnings on things and just let nature take it’s course? Because clearly, trying to save everyone, including the incredibly moronic, has hampered us as a society.

    1. What’s the false positive rate? And is the death rate going down or up? And do you support blm protest?

    2. The only good thing about that is nature doesn’t collect tax. The bad part is what people do is taxing on nature.

    3. @Pat Dahms It’s gonna be BIG! It’s gonna HUGE! Yes folks, it’s the GIANT comeback of the century! Wait for it… here it comes… p. Oh well.

    4. @yvelaine Sure. Unlike most people, I’m not disillusioned when it comes to the futility of human life. That being said, you’re missing the point of my comment I’d gladly invite you to go with me, don’t bring a mask and be sure to touch your face the whole time as well.

  6. If the EU blocked Americans from traveling there during Obama’s administration, impeachment proceedings would commence the same day.

    1. Mexico is paying for the wall! You heard it here first, guys!

Does Trump even know? He’ll be thrilled!

    2. Allpaka I said Mexico is paying into it, as in, partially funding it. Not the whole thing, I don’t think they could afford it.

    3. @Chris Riley Alright, random person on the internet. I get that you enjoy making things up as you go. The actual weird thing is that you expect people to just go along with it.

    4. Allpaka way to back down without discrediting anything that I put forth. Not that you can, because it is fact. Way to back down from identifying anything about your self that would give yourself credibility. Way to shrink back into a corner away from the truth, just life every leftist, communist, sycophant ever. I express these things because they are the truth. People need to have a chance to hear and see the truth. People need to think for themselves. You know what? I’m not that big a fan of Trump. Suppose there is actual substantial corruption there. HOW THE F0CK am I supposed to hear it over all of your whining and screaming? The Russia thing got played for so long, and in the end, when the Democrats could of actually taken the DOCUMENTS STRAIGHT TO COURT. They didn’t? Why not? Did they actually not have a case? They instead put it before the senate. Knowing that they would abide the law, seeing that there was any evidence. So THEY KNEW what it would look like. The β€œcorrupt” GOP just defending. You β€œrandom person on the internet”, now know who I am. Where I live, what I do for a living. Now YOU show me proof! You show me the proof! You be the person to show us all in America that the Democrats are not just pandering for votes. You show me the proof, I’m constantly researching all of these accusation. Searching and re-searching. Looking for any credibility to this crap. Because, as a reasonable person, I constantly ask myself if I’m wrong. If there is a better way. What could I do differently. It is my fault. My responsibility as an American. To see justice done, to defend my country and my children. Until the day I die. Prove it, or stay away from the poles, America has enough to deal with, without your lies and uninformed, opinionated Bull Sh1t.

    5. @Chris Riley Now you’re just ranting. Listen: There’s no need for me to disprove your outlandish claims. The burden of proof lies with you. And it doesn’t help that you entirely omit the details you promised.

Go learn about standards of evidence. No one is obliged to just believe you.

  7. Oh America it’s like banging your head on a piece of wood, tok, tok, nothing gets through does it !

    1. @G Valtat The NIH teamed with the Bill Gates and Melinda Gates Foundation to hold their fifth annual consultative workshop on global health. The workshop took place on December 11, 2018 in Bethesda, MD. Some of the topics discussed were a *universal flu vaccine,* tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and maternal, neonatal and child health. *Pictured are Bill Gates (left), Dr. Anthony Fauci (far left), director of NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Dr. Francis Collins (right), NIH director.*

    2. Crystal Giddens Ok OAN subscriber,
I watched the video with the 2 black guy. It can work on gullible people, not me. When the supposedly β€œbrainy” one said that the CDC website had a study showing that asymptomatic are not really contagious, I froze the video where the study appeared on the screen of the guy. The study said it was done with a small group and that some of the asymptomatic infected patient may be weak spreaders. That’s the problem with people like you, they want to believe in conspiracies and will twist timelines, facts and anything which won’t fit the result they expect.
Yes I read the news. Two months ago, it was said that there was a rampant pandemic in Japan, which could become a wildfire at any time. β€œAny time” later, Japan has an average 10 new cases each day.
Sorry Crystal, you are too far gone for me to even want to spend more time trying to open your eyes. Good luck if any member of your family got the virus because it is obvious to me that your survival skills have been seriously impacted watching all these β€œalternative” news.

    3. @G Valtat I doubt you are even sincere at this point. If you cannot bring yourself to even question what MSM tells you, you are at a bare minimum extremely naive. cui bono, it is a simple test. Dismissed.

    4. @G Valtat *Nuclear Waste Dumped in the Ocean by Japan!*
Β https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KBY-1E19Jk *Hey Japan! Worry more about the virus!*

    5. Crystal Giddens I don’t really care if you think I am sincere or not. I am just sad seeing my fellow human beings falling for conspiracies like that.
I will stay focused in the initial subjects. The video with the 2 black guys ends with a β€œwinning” argument to explain why wearing a mask is a fallacy: β€œ125.000 people have died in the US from Covid-19 in 2020 while 1 500 000 people have died last year of tuberculosis”, followed by the guy defending wearing a mask giving up when having to face such numbers.
Nice try. 125 000 (and counting) are for 331 millions Americans, 1.5 millions are for the whole planet, 7 billions people. That’s purposefully misleading. Also, of this 1.5 millions people, the US represents a total of 0% (actually 500 cases). Basically, there is no tuberculosis in the US, only from non-native US citizens.
And another interesting fact is that there is a vaccine for this disease which is not available everywhere, that’s why we have this 1.5 million deaths. Fact: considering how contagious and dangerous tuberculosis is, if there were no vaccines, with all the international connections NOWADAYS, tuberculosis would be such a scourge that basically the entire planet would have to stay permanently locked down.

  8. You *don’t* need an administration who care more for the money in their pockets than for human lives.

  9. You know it’s bad when other countries ban the USA from entering because they don’t want to catch coronavirus 😳😳😳😳😳 America is in real trouble and in a real bad place right now and it’s gonna get worse.

    1. If the good people in America prevail, hopefully we will redeem ourselves and other countries will see that WE AMERICANS WHO ARENT DIPSHITS do NOT want all of this terrible corruption and inequity and division. I hope other countries understand that our administration is not a reflection of a good majority of us. We are devastated. We have no control and it is truly horrific.

    2. @Katie Harder , it’ll come right. You always have Viktor Frankl’s control. You can do the right things for your own household, a small ripple of hope, as RFK put it.

    3. @Anne Rigby if you are coming here for your news, you will certainly be disappointed in November

    4. @Katie Harder if you come here for your news, you will certainly be disappointed in November

    1. Kids in my neighborhood explained it this way to younger kids. The younger kids were unfamiliar with Kevin Bacon, but they had already watched youtube videos about the Spanish flu.

    1. Sounds like a good start πŸ™‚ Australia recruited from the newly unemployed in the hospitality sector too. Perfect skill base for a job that requires calling people & making them feel comfortable & happy to share information with the contact tracer. Get the bar tenders on the phones πŸ™‚

    1. @Alan Pattinson Is your mask wearing in line with International guidelines as to maximum time worn before disposal?
& disposable or cloth ones (that there’s only 1 RCT on & it showed them to increase infection rate over not wearing)

    2. @Lilac Lizard Shown by who? Just look at facts countries that wear masks, any masks have low rates. The other factor is distance, rule should be min 3 mtr and 6 mtr safe. Not 1 or 1.5mtr. A face visor covers the eyes and improves mask performance.

  10. Readers should pay attention to the comments written by European people. What will you see? No bragging, some level of compassion towards the US, acceptance of facts and sciences, no insults. We are a block of (still) 27 countries, and we are displaying more unity to fight this scourge than the supposedly United States of America.
(Note: I am French and American)

    1. But then, go looking at comments unser their own national news – the vitriol (at least in my European country)!

    2. Why should the Europe, or any continent show compassion? The United States of America is an illusion. A shell of its former self.

    3. Jessica McNeill Perhaps because everything is not wrong in the US, you are still a strong country with a potential for goodness. I have lots of American friends, very good and compassionate people.Systemic changes are needed though. This is only my opinion, but I think that the Constitution which served you so well in the past is now outdated.

    4. @G Valtat you’re right. The United States has potential, but it takes a strong and capable leader to guide this nation to that untapped potential. Global unity.

  11. This is All Well & Good But there’s So Many Stupid People that Can’t Grasp Any Of this. There’s Still Fools Out in Public without Masks at All

    1. forget the masks, focus on the contact tracing!!!! NO country has beaten this without contact tracers, plenty have beaten it without masks! & you STILL don’t have contact tracing!!!!!!!! Contact tracing is the ONLY way to contain this!

    2. Your elementary school teacher trained your self-esteem by saying OTHER people are stupid. Congratulations. You graduated from the #19 public school system out of 20 industrialized countries.

  12. Fox news is talking about mt rushmore and why the dems dont want it to happen. Its so scary how tons of people are watching that network

    1. My neighbor told me, “I only watch Fox News.” Yes, it’s frightening, but it’s also maddening.

  13. but according to Trump: “its going to disappear. one day, its like a miracle. it will disappear.”
    wish Trump would disappear insteadπŸ˜’πŸ˜’πŸ˜’

    1. It apparently disappeared for 3 weeks the moment G.Floyd was murdered. The MSM somehow forgot all about Covid as they relished in and applauded the legions of BLM rioters flooding the streets.

    2. Yea all the talk about increased cases but not a word about the decreasing death rate. Now its as deadly as the common flue and the far left is still acting as if its the end of humanity! Stop watching Marxist Propaganda News on MSNBC & CNN and get your mind straight for once!

    3. @wiremantw Freedom & Liberty Forever πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ You do realize it takes about a month before covid19 turns fatal if no recovery….? The level of stupid that you got from fox has rotted your brain to the point of making you null/void any critical thinking😩

    4. @ST7A Bad Karma You’re so ignorant that there’s no point in arguing. NYC has/had HUGE mobs of BLM, but we have lower covid cases. Covid is on the rise because stupid people refuse to wear masks.
