@Crimdor it’s tough, I planted a garden, and go fishing on the banks of our local river. Luckily I was able to sell my extra pickup, camper and boat. And have kept my depts to a minimum.
@Robert Jeglum – I’m glad that you are surviving and doing what you can by living off of the land. Most places in California make it illegal to visit rivers during this time or grow your own food without expensive permits.

@Crimdor thank you. Surviving is the right word. Simple foods, no cigarettes, no beer, no junkfood, no new clothes or phone upgrade for my daughter. Life is tough right now and looks like it will get worse before it gets better. I have few answers to what can be done. Extending unemployment benefits would certainly help many of us. I hate to use the word welfare but some kind of income supplement or low interest loan is a option government needs to explore in these hard times. Otherwise we’re screwed.

@Crimdor Bull! When I lived in California, San Luis Obispo, West Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Van Nuys, I always had a victory garden. Even when I lived in an apartment, I had planters of tomatoes and peppers on the balcony. I never needed a permit. My brother lived a time in the Bay area, and he grew his veggies too. No permit needed. The only plant he ever needed a permit for was cannabis. And in Oregon, where I live now, I don’t need that for up to four plants.
