Rep. McBath: ‘Our Constituents, Republican Or Democrat, Are Adversely Affected By Gun Violence’

Rep. Lucy McBath, who lost her son to gun violence in 2012, tells Lawrence O’Donnell that she hopes the Senate passes a pair of bills she co-sponsored expanding background checks despite Republican opposition. She offers a message to the victims’ families to “honor the legacy of the loved one that they’ve lost and know that we are fighting as hard as we can” to honor their lives with gun safety legislation. Rep. McBath: ‘Our Constituents, Republican Or Democrat, Are Adversely Affected By Gun Violence’

  1. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) confirmed reports it is investigating President Joe Biden’s move in January to freeze construction of the border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

    1. You mean that over priced wall that trump used to rile up his base and promote division? The wall that Steve Bannon used to con Republicans out of their money? The wall where 654 miles already existed across the borders in California, Arizona and Texas and that trump only increased by 47 miles? You mean the wall that does nothing to stop tunnels? The wall that doesn’t help Border Patrol Officers do their job? The wall that Mexico was going to pay for? That wall?

    2. @Patty Kelly you really are an easily emotionally manipulated and propagandized lady patty. my brother works in Border patrol and him and all of his other BP associates say where there is a wall its easier to apprehend people.
where there is no wall and SUV packed with 25 people can drive right through the desert. where there is a wall 1 person at a time slowly climbs it which gives border patrol time to show up and capture them because the wall has cameras and motion sensors…
imagine being so naïve that you think the 10,000+ year old concept of walls is suddenly invalid in 2021…
ignore the wall around the capital, i guess insurrectionists can just phase right through it like ghosts.

  2. People losing friends and family is apparently a small price to pay for the right to get guns without serious scrutiny. Or as some gun fanatics probably believe, they deserved to die because they didn’t have guns of their own to shoot first like Han Solo.

  3. A regime dedicated to creating its own reality doesn’t just use language to lie. To truly animate lies, those in power must behave as if they’re true, no matter who gets hurt.

    1. “Stimulus checks will go out to Americans as soon as I take office”…yea we see how truth there was in that too

  4. Bipartisan should mean we the voters being together on things because Republicans don’t seem to care what their own constituents want. There is nothing wrong with stricter laws for gun control. Us paw abiding citizens wouldn’t be effected by them but lives will be saved.. It’s not that hard.. Even people like Manchin have an A rating by the NRA and that’s who they care about, not us..

    1. The second amendment is suppose to give the people enough firepower to overthrow a tyrannical government.

    2. Highly incorrect. I’m not looking for more gun control, that’s not going to solve the issue. Colorado has all the gun control that the Left wants, and it didn’t stop the man from killing people at the store.

    1. 1984 wasnt meant to be a playbook lol… jeez you’re so dense.
maybe require a social media background check to vote, to get an ID, to buy a car, to buy a home, to travel on a bus train or plane…

  5. We will never have guns safety while the republicans always saying no to everything the democratic trying to pass for the Americans people

    1. Well first off we need to get people like you back to school so you can learn how to write a sentence.

    2. Highly incorrect. I’m not looking for more gun control, that’s not going to solve the issue. Colorado has all the gun control that the Left wants, and it didn’t stop the man from killing people at the store.

    3. I think banning murder would be a more affective way to stop gun violence. That’s how it works right??

  6. Please note that Rep. McBath just handily re-won the seat long held by Newt Gingrich. Atlanta is the capital of the New South. THIS is the will of the people: stop killing our children, fathers, and mothers. Gun control now!!

    1. do you know what percentage of mass shootings are committed with handguns?

    2. @BIG GOVERNMENT IS THE ISSUE AND NOT THE SOLUTION 100% of mass shootings are committed with guns of some type. Period. No one is coming for your legal weapon. But you don’t need to walk away with it the same day, you should have a background check, and you should be required to have some training in how to use it. Back when I was an NRA member in the 1970s, they agreed! I still have my guns, but not the NRA card.

    3. @Claressa Lucas so do you regularly lie or are you just ignorant on the topic?
you do know that a ban means illegal right?
what happens if the police catch you with an illegal item? they take it and put you in a cage…
there are background checks for guns sold online and at all gun shops.
i cant go on the internet and have a gun shipped to my door, it has to be shipped to a gun store where a background check is run.
the Obama DOJ concluded that a universal background check system is pointless without a national gun registry of all guns.
mandatory training? ok so would you support a tiny tax increase of maybe $10 a year to pay for people to get government funded training?
      probably not…
you and other gun control advocates dont actually care about people being trained, you just want that extra $200+ dollar cost to be a barrier to entry which lowers the number of future gun owners.

a mandatory gun training program and licensing system will make it harder for low income people, many of which are minorities, from getting guns.

gun controls roots are in racism, and you clowns are trying to continue the racist gun control laws making it harder for my brothers and sisters to get guns…

you really think some subjective system run by a possibly racist white guy that gets to choose who can own guns is a good thing?

      wake up…

      BLM!

    1. We need to get rid of the republican crooks and stop their suppression of your voting rights they are only for their rich selves not the american people.

  7. “we need to ban assault weapons” “stop acting like we are trying to ban your guns”
they truly think, and i guess know that the average democrat voter has an IQ of 85 and they can lie straight to your face and you just clap like a seal and say thanks

    1. @Mary Dunbar i dont, and im not sure what an “assault gun” is. assault is an action, not an item. do you mean a semi auto rifle, technology thats been around for 130 years… the 2A is in the bill of rights, not the bill of needs.
anyways, a semi auto rifle like an AR10 for example, is a great deer hunting rifle, its great for long range hobby shooting, and its the optimal gun for self defense for me.
its a single gun that can fill many roles, it does everything i need it to, except i cant conceal it, so thats why i also own a pistol which i carry daily, and nobody ever sees it.

and no the AR10 round doesn’t explode a deer into a billion pieces like the ignorant politicians claim. i can fire 1 shot through the heart of a deer, humanely killing it, and it will feed my family for weeks.

    2. @BlondeGirlSez This where did i say anything about being tough? nice projection lol

  8. No, lawful Americans right to bare arms shall not be infringed! Criminals don’t follow the law, as demonstrated by strict gun laws in Chicago. Democrats are hypocrites as they have armed guards and a wall surrounding the capitol, for their safety.

  9. The recent statements by many Democrat members of Congress doesn’t support their claims that all they want are sensible background checks.

  10. You wanting us to turn in our A.R. 15‘s and you’re telling us you’re not coming for our guns you literally just said you’re coming for our guns!!! Sorry but not sorry but you’re not taking any of my AR‘s or my magazines!

  11. No rich, old, white and powerful Republican is affected by gun violence. So why should they support any kind gun legislation? After all, they are in congress only for themselves, it’s the Trumpian way.

  12. That’s a dumb video title. Its an obvious statement. What needs to be focused on is how to mitigate it.
