FORTUNE MAIN ROAD TO BE REOPENED SOON

Roseau, Dominica

Roseau, DominicaRoseau Dominica – Tuesday, April 21, 2015 – Minister for Public Works and Ports Honourable Ian Pinard is reporting that the Fortune Road is to be reopened soon. Minister Pinard’s comments are in light of continuing work on the “Fortune Box Culvert Crossing Project”.

The project includes the demolition and reconstruction of 8m box culvert crossing; construction of 12m retaining wall for slope stabilization; demolition and reconstruction of a 4m culvert crossing and resurfacing of drain with 40m of BRC concrete. There is also the construction of 134m of open reinforced concrete box drain.

Minister Pinard is pleased with the progress of works thus far and states that once the project is complete the area should be able to withstand heavy rains.

“The project is progressing nicely and we are hoping to have that road opened in a few days. In fact the crossing has been done and we are waiting for the concrete to cure properly, and then we will open the Fortune Road to the general public,” Minister Pinard stated.

Heavy rains associated with the trough system of December 24, 2013 resulted in flooding, damage to retaining structures and the blockage of the road near the Fortune Junction. The Fortune Box Culvert Crossing and Uncovered Box Drain Projects are at a cost of five hundred and eleven thousand, six hundred and thirty-seven dollars and seven cents.
