@Doug beeman I’m not dismissing anything but I am arguing for perspective. Without herd immunity and with the high percentage of mild to no symptoms, there’s very little to stop the spread of this virus so it can get very bad especially since it’s coinciding with flu season where all of our resources would already be maxed out but it still isn’t too bad yet, it’s at a point to grow exponentially and we need to be prepared but we do need to be reasonable about our preparations.
Besides, I was saying that the Trump supporters would probably just keep tuning news they consider unfavourable out. I certainly did not say I was being dismissive. Perhaps you need to learn to read.

@Doug beeman The “Swine Flu” was still influenza, something we have some herd immunity to, even the annual flu vaccine provided a small amount of immunity to it. Yes a lot of people still died from it but think of how many people didn’t get their annual flu shots and hence then carried the disease to the vulnerable people in their lives so a lot of those deaths are on the heads of people arrogant enough to refuse their shots. Your question asking if I feared that as well only shows how ludicrously idiotic you are in trying to deflect the issue to previous leaderships. We certainly don’t need to panic over either disease as neither are the end of the world but there is no herd immunity to this Corona virus so the only thing to even slow it down is hygiene and social distancing. The problem is that a lot of economic damage will have happened before people realize this, some people will continue to deny what the scientists have been saying and many will just embrace simple but ineffective answers such as travel bans which have been shown to be counter productive as they make contact trading to travel from hot spots difficult as people take circuitous routes.
@johnny walker Driving around isn’t a problem as you’re pretty much isolated in a private vehicle. It’s why you are driving about and who you might meet when you get where you’re going that is the problem. Also, driving around shows another wealth divide, those who are dependent on public transportation won’t have the isolation of a private vehicle.
Instead of meeting with the leader of Ireland right now he should be declaring a state of emergency and doing his job instead of thinking he’s still at Mar Largo meeting and greeting people and playing golf – he is completely unprepared and under prepared for this crisis.

Claiming a Federal national emergency would do more harm than good. States should be making those decisions, which they are. Declaring a national emergency at this point would allow states, some with no cases at all to receive much needed resources best used elsewhere. If states are given the chance to receive huge freebies, either D or R they will jump on it. You could restrict certain states from receiving certain resources but then that would negate the purpose of Federal national emergencies to start with. States declaring has all kinds of incentives that opens federal doors, Import consumer goods are already taking a huge hit, Federal declaring would restrict that much further. The Market and economy are already in a panic, you don’t want inflation to balloon on top of that.
