Sen. King: In Senate Trial, Need To Answer Questions On What Trump Knew And What He Did

Senator Angus King (I-ME) joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate. When asked how he'll vote, he says, "I think there are some questions we need to answer…to really have a totally clear picture of this. One is what intelligence did he have that morning or the day before as to the nature of the crowd," before adding, "the second question is what did he do that afternoon when it was going on?". Aired on 01/21/2021.

Sen. King: In Senate Trial, Need To Answer Questions On What Trump Knew And What He Did

    1. Wish we had more like him. Bernie was an Independent until recently. Justin Amash is Independent now – I know..tea party Libertarian..but at least he has convictions, and a spine.

    2. Sen. King has my every respect! I don’t live in Maine, still, all our US Reps and Senators effect us all.

    3. I’m from Maine as well, I trust Senator King, he was kind enough to respond to me when I was encouraging him to try alternative methods of persuading Trump to enact the DPA to increase testing and PPE early on in the virus, to both decrease transmission as well as isolate people already infected. He had written Trump a letter to encourage him to use the DPA as well as other tools at his disposal, which I appreciate it I just didn’t think Trump actually reads things. Timing right action is everything imagine how different things would be right now if he had taken the advice from Senator King, as well as many professionals. I am baffled as to why Susan Collins keeps on being re-elected, she has proven that her decision making skills are based on how she thinks it will affect her career and if it will upset the other Republicans, rather than whether or not it’s the right thing to do

    1. Proud of what Border out of control killing the key stone pipeline making 11 million illegal people legal when 10 million Americans out of work

    2. Biden has already violated the mask mandate on federal land. lets not ignore the hypocrisy just because the media fails to do its job. they wont say a word.

    3. You are proud to have a man who when under a little pressure voted against desegregation? Pushed harsher penalties for crack than cocaine unfairly targeting minorities? That once said gays were a national security threat? I could go on with racist votes comments and actions from Biden but that should be enough. You are proud to have that leading the US? I’m not saying Trump was great or the answer. You feel he represents your values and your parties values? After all the defund the police, he was one who called for more policing in minority neighborhoods. This makes you proud again?

    1. @ERASING THE UIGOURS
Forget it trumpite! Your diatribe on the new president was resoundingly rejected by the resent election. Even if President Biden is elderly, he’s a breath of fresh air and brings maturity, dignity, empathy, truth and leadership to the many crisis that confront America. Oh! Stand back and stand by: President Biden has declared war on systematic racism. Dixiecrats, far right extremists and all those white suprematist nut jobs-you crossed the line. The feds are coming to get you.

    2. @N W No the Democrats have not been brewing sedition.
Resisting the Trump administration, which began on day one with the crowd size lie, and ended 4 years and 30 000 lies later, with the election fraud lie and Trump’s attempt to overthrow the United States government …..resisting that was every American’s duty.

    3. @Lex Ruptor Uhhhh…YES THEY DID. And there was no cries of insurrection from the crybaby crowd. Gee…isnt that odd.

    4. @Alex Oelkers all 3 stood up in congress and objected to the electoral college results in previous elections. LOOK IT UP. Where was your outrage what they did it??? Or is is just selective outrage?

    5. As everyone can see from the way the GOP is already acting in Congress, we have hard times ahead but just remember, Donald Trump is gone forever. Nice!

  1. I like the part where the so-called “savior” of the republican party turned out to be the hands-down worst president in history.
    Sweet move there! 😅😂🤣

    1. @Ro G you talk about demonizing minorities like you don’t know the democratic parties history of doing that. Including programs that supported fatherless home by making it profitable for the father to not be around. Who was it that called blacks super predators?

We have predators on our streets that society has in fact, in part because of its neglect, created,” said Biden, then a fourth-term senator from Delaware so committed to the bill that he has referred to it over the years as “the Biden bill.”
Bill Russo, a spokesman for Biden, said high violent crime rates at the time was key context to understanding the bill and that, “Senator-Biden’s strong rhetoric” was in response to Republican critiques that past efforts had been too soft on crime
Biden’s 1993 “predator” remarks are similar to comments made by then-first lady Hillary Clinton in 1996, where she warned of “superpredators” who had “no conscience, no empathy” and who need to be brought “to heel.” During the 2016 Democratic primary, Clinton was confronted by Black Lives Matter activists over her use of the term.

I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

I could go on and on with racism from the left, lack of tolerance for gays and so on

    2. @fishhead06 thats like saying you can’t after all the money the dnc accepted from him over the years and all the love they showed upto that point. Its all a big dog and pony show, surely you have realized that by now?

    3. @mike taylor tldr. But his donations to Dems averaged about $20k per year from 1989 to 2010. And from 2011-2013, it was a total of $400k to the GOP. So to say he was giving away tons of money to Dems is flat out wrong. Plus it can easily be explained by the fact he’s a New Yorker, and tried to fit in with the liberals he wanted to be liked by. Didn’t work. Sadly. No one in NYC likes him, they all knew he was a loser to begin with.
But yeah, keep screaming into the void, friend. 😅😂🤣

    4. @mike taylor Hey, I never said a word about the propriety of the Democrats accepting Trump’s money. I said that the Republicans have to wear his presidency and its effects. Accepting campaign donations from someone and nominating them for the presidency are not equivalent.

    5. @mike taylor When Biden used that term, he never equated it a particular race. I believe he used the term “youths could become predators 15 years later.”
      https://www.statesman.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/02/fact-check-did-joe-biden-call-black-youth-rsquosuper-predatorsrsquo/114645772/

Stop drawing false equivalence, dude. It’s a weak way to make an argument. Because right now, there is only one party that attracts neo-nazis and white nationalists. Only one party that revels in the Confederate flag. Only one party who lashed out in anger over fear that they are soon to be a white minority in this country.
You cherry pick moments in history but fail to look at the broader context, thinking that doesn’t matter or people will just be “so impressed” with your ability to cut and paste. Nope. That’s the thing with strawman arguments. Poke them once and they fall apart. Much like the GOP right now…after they hitched their wagon to a guy who got impeached TWICE! 😅😂🤣

  2. What Trump did in the afternoon was watching the mob on TV and enjoying what he heard and saw, cowardly hiding in the WH despite having told his supporters to go to the Capitol together with them.

    1. Yeah we know who did it trumpees u all r just in denial just like everything else when it comes to the con man who has all u conned

    1. @AriSiMom There have been protests and he has lost a lot of support in his home state. Hopefully that leads to a short career in politics.

    2. @Wally Boyce yes ,let’s hope so but meanwhile he seems to feel he will just reject anything a democrat wants to do ,so slowing down Biden cabinet approvals seems to be the thing he’s going to do, can he be removed from his committee chairs in the senate.

    3. @AriSiMom It can make a difference to raise the Voice of the People. We can leave voice mails (fastest, most dependable way) to convey our stance, and ask our friends and families to do the same. He is dangerously unfit.
Same goes for Boebart, as she told the insurrectionists where Speaker Pelosi was. Congressional Main switchboard 202-224-3121. Those aren’t the only two, check out “US Rep.” Gosar, his words and conduct render him unfit. All involved must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    4. @angela bluebird60 yes I recently ( just now ) started signing onto petitions that come thru my e mail, which is a first for me , up to this point I have just been reading ,everything … history and politics … civil war … amazing how what we let slide then is how we got to where we are now…

  3. When Trump said his farewell, he repeated that he loved his followers, some of whom attacked the Capitol. Trump also seemed to imply that he will try again and his followers should stand by for more marching orders. So I hope that all government capitols etc have more security than prior to the attack on the Capitol. Maybe 2 times the amount of police, military or something.

  4. will Hawley and his ilk ever be held accountable for their complicity in the attempted over throw of our democracy?

    1. Odds are yes, their state action are first than Federal, so everyone should contact their Representative. I already have.

    1. @Lee Hawes they had loss of life, everyone knows it was saved only because of the secret service and the boys in blue! They were boxed in The Secret Service would have u know? protected V.P. duty! think about that? but then one must also see it for what it is and sanction him, stop his intel briefings? they said were on it already, I am sure some said Sir, but u know him, he does not know when u enter public duty u become a number (45) and have ones to answer to, The will of The people, voters, he did not even in the end get it? wow what reality? the mess if he stayed with this virus would have hurt so much, hurts now

  5. Why is he still saying he needs to hear the evidence before he votes to convict Trump??? We’re his eye’s and ears closed, was he under a rock or in a cave on Jan 6 😳🤯 come on !!!!

    1. Take it easy Franca. It’s only a judicial thing (in this specific case). He clearly pointed out what his opinion is – before the ‘court’ sits. A jury or a judge can’t give sentence before the trial okay? It’s only a question of principles.

    2. He can’t render a “verdict” now before the Senate has it’s trial. Imagine the blow back. He laid out the summary issues to be addressed – and it seems all the elements of Trump’s guilt and complicity will be easily met. But he is still entitled to due process. This Senator is being professional & composed. 👏👏👏

    3. You don’t make up your mind before you hear all the evidence. Otherwise you would have to excuse yourself as a juror.

  6. Fire Hawley, he is crook andcannot lead so remove him loser/eye sore let him leave for good and never work at any level any how

  7. What is more alarming is the several of the ‘jurors” were active participants in the sedition and therefore culpable in the actions of the insurrectionist mob.

    1. I agree with what you stated and I know it’s kind of very radical idea, I also think we need to change the flag that we already have. I think we’ve been ingrained with red white and blue, as well as a lot of binary constructs left / right, up / down, etc. I think we need to add yellow in replace of the white to add character and to address the true history of the nation and not just is told from a white patriarchal standpoint, and then we would actually have the three primary colors, red yellow and blue that make the rest of the rainbow

    1. Same reason these guys keep getting off on insider trading laws. For a Senator to be arrested and charged is a very high bar and the cops are very very reluctant to go there. The Senate themselves will never do anything, as they are all fearful of future retaliation for any minor transgression they may make.
