    1. The issue is most likely Manchin and Cinema. If Kamala Harris overrules the parlamantarian, Manchin and Cinema would in all likelihood not vote for the bill, which will destroy everything else in the bill that the democrats fought to push through. Cinema and Manchin would have an excuse to not voting for it because of the parlamantarian, so that would shield them from some bad political fallout.

So because of this Biden and the rest of the senate democrats will not risk jeopardizing the rest of the bill with not having enough votes, since there is a real urgency in passing it during these times.

    2. The issue is, what you want is against the rules, The parliamentarian is there to determine if the rules are followed, but you don’t have to have much knowledge to know that raising the minimum wage is not a budget matter, and cannot be in a reconciliation bill. I guess you have 0 knowledge.

    3. @Deborah Freedman 10 years ago minimum wage was $7 an hour how much was gasoline how much was taxes how much was rent how much was food 10 years later still $7 an hour how much is taxes how much is rent how much is food when minimum wage was $0.50 to $1 per hour rent with 16-20 per month meaning you can work two or three days and pay your entire month’s rent was today’s money including inflation it was 50,000 to $100,000 a year the problem is that everybody has been brainwashed to think that being a slave and working for basically nothing is okay when it never was the case in the past this is all verifiable. you can look it up yourself. And sometimes you have to look at what’s right not what you think is the rules or not just ask yourself what’s right that people continue to work for 10% of the actual wages they should be earning? because that’s what it breaks down to the wealth Gap exists because 90% of the actual wealth that comes from labor has been extracted and moved

    1. PUT ON YOUR MITTENS BERNIE AND DO SOMETHING USEFUL. ANOTHER PERSON GETTING PAID TO DO NOTHING.

    2. @mike briganti and yet you love Berney. 😂😅😂 Send me link of Berney going golfing Friday to monday morning I want to see how you say he does nothing. Send it.

    3. Covid relief, then Voting Laws, then move onto other things. If the GOP is allowed to erase millions of votes then Dems lose everything the next two cycles, and whatever you pass is gone by 2026. Look ahead, you’re handing the country to king Trump by throwing a temper tantrum like they do…

    4. @mike briganti Bernie Sanders has gotten more amendments passed than any other living Senator. Look it up. They call Bernie “The Amendment King” for a reason.

    1. Taxes have to do with the Budget, minimum wage does not. I’m with you they need to go up, but if they do pass it in a Budget Reconciliation then the SCOTUS will overturn it and in the mean time they’ll stop payments from this bill. Don’t play this stupid game, pass Covid relief then go after other things. Dems can do a second budget reconciliation this year, this one is last year’s and we need one for October again.

    1. Don’t do what? If they use Budget Reconciliation to pass a wage increase the SCOTUS will throw it out. If we throw out the filibuster then the GOP will use it for their pet projects when they regain power. Want to know how you keep power? Prioritize making every vote count, because the GOP is going to erase millions of dem voters by next year’s election if we don’t do something. At that point America dies, the GOP will be allowed to legally throw out votes that should count and Trump wins the position of America’s king in 2025, and erases anything the dems have ever done… Do you want that over your temper tantrum?

  1. Until they get a GOP that actually cares about their constituents rather than sticking it to the Dems, get rid of the filibuster!

    1. It isn’t the GOP who are holding up the minimum wage… it’s actually the Democrats. They don’t want to raise it, because they don’t want to anger their corporate donors. All of this talk about the parliamentarian is nothing but a smoke screen. Believe it, because it’s the truth.

    1. Democrats are just as responsible. Two parties looking to protect themselves and big corporations.

    2. I’m not an economist. Too bad the best experts on this subject are NOT politicians, nor the collective majority of Americans (per polling).

The Senate is suppose to be a rational check, but they are partisan, corrupt, and plain stupid.

    3. @Ray Bellows – We are a failing democracy because of 1) the electoral college 2) plurality voting 3) the Senate.

  2. Democrats playing by the same rules the GOP broke last time this situation occurred. Difference is, the GOP broke the rule to give a massive tax cut to the rich, while Democrats don’t want to break it to give workers a living wage.

  3. Who exactly elected the Parliamentarian? The answer is ZERO. Zero people voted for this one person who holds all this power. Please explain how this is a “democracy”?

    1. The Senate continues to be THEE most structurally flawed federal institution. It is doing massive damage.

    2. Biden and the senate democrats see this, and they will not risk the rest of the bill, especially during these times.

    3. You don’t have to be the parliamentarian to see that a raise in the minimum wage is not a budget issue, and cannot be in reconciliation. Your understanding of how bills are passed is *ZERO* and yet you still comment. Take a civics class or do a little reading.

    1. No, the dems must pass voting laws to stop the GOP from erasing millions of voters. But hey I can look far enough ahead to see that the GOP is erasing votes right now, they’re doing it legally, and next year if they’re successful they’ll own both chambers of Congress and the filibuster, and in 2025 trump is made king and he erases everything he doesn’t like. Stop being stupid and look ahead at the disaster coming if you take this path…

  4. Well Durbin they let the rich get it through he better rethink this or we will never vote for them again

    1. Slaves aren’t paid, and have to do whatever master says. You are trivializing the horrors of slavery with this comment.

    2. @Deborah Freedman People still need a roof over their head.

The days of the Pioneers are not common place anymore.

  5. I vote with the Democratic Party. The cost of living varies so widely in the United States I don’t think a flat floor for wages coast to coast makes sense. This is an issue best handled in states and cities.

  6. So shocking and unprecedented that few people even noticed, and almost nobody remembers. Be a journalist and stop with the bullsh*t.

  7. Republicans will vote No
I don’t expect anything else from them
They wouldn’t do the right thing if their lives depended on it
They don’t want to upset Trump
    That’s their God
Short of Trump telling them to do it
    It’s not getting done

  8. BernieSanders the little guy from Brooklyn fighting for the people.!❤️🗽🇺🇸 Bernie really is a real life CaptainAmerica!!
