    2. Nobody has paid attention to it, but the Soviet Union collapsed because the huge military spending and the political controls that made the economy inefficient. If those two burdens would have been removed and some brush up had been made to the production chain and rewards for a good job, Socialism Soviet style would have been good enough to have a good life.

    1. ​@Paul Drusbasky Shutdowns are only necessary when people aren’t taking other steps (physical distancing, masks, soon vaccines) to slow or eliminate the spread of the virus. It didn’t have to get so bad as to require them. People who flout these simple guidelines don’t want to inconvenience themselves to save lives.
      Hate is reserved for few. I feel sad for people who seem incapable of looking at what’s happening in front of them and recognizing the impact their actions can have on others, even to the point of life or death. I feel even sadder that people can recognize this and still not care because they can’t be bothered to change how they live for a little while so this can all be over with.

      And make no mistake, it CAN all be over with if people follow the rules for a few months, tops. Vaccines plus physical distancing plus masks would stop the virus in its tracks. But people have been lied to, and can’t admit they’ve fallen for it, so they proceed as if all these scientifically proven methods are fake to save face.

      A thousand years ago, if you were a marauding gang and you wanted to take over a country’s land and its natural resources and public sector, you’d have to invade it with military troops. Now you use finance to take over countries. So it leads us into a realm where everything that the classical economists saw and argued for – public investment, bringing costs in line with the actual cost of production – that’s all rejected in favor of a rentier class evolving into an oligarchy. Basically, financiers – the 1% – are going to pry away the public domain from the government. Pry away and privatize the public enterprises, land, natural resources, so that bondholders and privatizers get all of the revenue for themselves. It’s all sucked up to the top of the pyramid, impoverishing the 99%.

The group that I organized out of Harvard has done a 20-study of the origins of economic structuring in the Bronze Age, even the Neolithic, and the Bronze Age economy – 3200 BC going back to about 1200 BC. Suppose you’re a Babylonian in the time of Hammurabi, about 1750 BC, and you’re a cultivator. How do you buy things during the year? Well, if you go to the bar, to an ale woman, what she’d do is write down the debt that you owe. It was to be paid on the threshing floor. The debts were basically paid basically once a year when the income was there, on the threshing floor when the harvest was in. If the palace or the temples would advance animals or inputs or other public services, this would be as a debt. It was all paid in grain, which was monetized for paying debts to the palace, temples and other creditors.

Hudson shows in vivid detail how the Great 2008 Bailout saved the banks but not the economy, and plunged the U.S., Irish, Latvian and Greek economies into debt deflation and austerity. Killing the Host describes how the phenomenon of debt deflation imposes punishing austerity on the U.S. and European economies, siphoning wealth and income upward to the financial sector while impoverishing the middle class.

      operations of restaurants ,bars , health clubs and any other place that will hold a gathering of people. These are all most likely owned by a small group of
      people who are seeking bailout money as a small business while stealing the stimulus money that should be paid to the real people of need . Most of these
      small business owners own several houses , large boats and maybe a couple of Tesla’s. There is a one political party that sees the reality of all that hidden
      agenda in the stimulus package and tries to keep it from happening . People do the research its all there..

    3. @Marik 444 Mind that the Dems have had stimulus packages passed in the House since May, namely the HEROES act. That bill is on Mitch McConnell’s desk, and he can bring it to the floor any time he wishes for discussion and voting. He has not. Negotiations have been ongoing since then and he’s blocked almost everything, and the few times Dems stand on principle and say they won’t give legal protections to businesses that knowingly expose their workers to COVID, people get all upset. As if the other side hasn’t been holding everything up far longer.

If the Senate had taken up any of the stimulus bills passed by the House since May, like the HEROES act, the economic toll would have been mitigated if not outright averted because of payments to help people AND businesses. That blame belongs to Mitch McConnell for not bringing any of them to the floor for a vote.

      The real assault, of course, is a disinformation campaign meant to make people distrust verified sources and science. So that they don’t practice safety measures like wearing masks, taking vaccines, or physical distancing. So that the virus kills more people. It’s a perfect proxy method to decimate our population using the manufactured willful ignorance of some – and not a single bullet fired, not a single bomb dropped. Their hands are clean, at least on the surface. From far away, it just looks like we did this to ourselves. Which, to be fair, we halfway did, but it definitely was helped along.
