The Manhattan DA convened a grand jury to hear evidence and weigh charges against former president Donald Trump and the employees of the Trump Organization as part of the criminal probe into the company, according to reporting from the Washington Post. Prosecutors are attempting to pressure the Trump Organization’s CFO Allen Weisselberg into cooperating. Former Trump Organization executive Barbara Res and former U.S. attorney Barbara McQuade join MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber to discuss the escalation in the investigation.

Systemic change is difficult and time consuming, especially in a Democratic republic that is designed to give more power to rural conservatives. But giving up trying to change society, while you’re living in it and it’s laws and policies are affecting you and your loved ones, I don’t think will help.
A lot of voters only turn out for presidential and congressional elections, but truthfully your local elections are where your votes have the most power, and local elections can decide policy that is really important. Especially for things like your school board and county or city board of supervisors.
I live in a conservative county in California, and even though the state has good election laws, after the 2020 misinformation campaign the local alt right flooded the supervisor meetings and harassed and threatened local elections officials. The county board voted 3-2 to enact rules that make voting less accessible in this county, I think because a lot of rational people were just enjoying a reprieve from the trump insanity and didn’t participate in local public forums. Local grassroots stuff is so important and often gets overlooked, especially by progressives (the tea party did it successfully, and look how they moved the Republican Party platform and won elections)
