Shaming Works: Mike Pence Shamed Into Wearing Mask As Grim Reaper Hits The Beach | MSNBC

As many states and individuals are eager to return to “normal” after months of restrictive social distancing measures to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, many Americans are seeing efforts to “shame” people into following CDC guidelines. VP Mike Pence received backlash for not wearing a mask during a hospital visit, while Yale University backed down and offered its dorms for housing to nurses treating Covid-19 patients. Jennifer Jacquet, NYU environmental studies professor and author of "Is Shame Necessary?,” discusses the keys to “constructive shaming,” using ethics, proportion and strategic thinking to help curb the virus. Dr. Megan Ranney discusses medical guidance, public perception and its impact on social norms with MSNBC’s Ari Melber. 1. True, but Virus POTUS-45’s weakness, his Achilles Heel, (no, not the infamous ‘heel spurs’) is Opinion Poll Ratings, when they go down he blows up.

    2. @Noel Ryan instead of supposedly being the leader of the country, he acts like he’s trying to win Miss Congeniality at some macabre beauty pageant.

  1. It’s not the poor that you have to be afraid of, they’re use to going without. It’s those that have never gone without, they will lose their minds.”😜🤪..😷

    1. I use to be poor. Got sick of being poor . Instead of blaming someone else for me being poor. I did something about it. No one owes you anything .

    2. @Ro G Nonlethal diarrhea. lol

You are a good person but I think it is OK to wish a more serious harm and outcome to those who would see us die, so they can live in excess.

    3. @White Goose Then you weren’t poor, just lazy.

You got tire of being lazy and used your brain.

Poor people are smart because they’ve learned to survive.

Not all are mentally gifted enough to overcome the societal traps they find themselves in.

The US is socially engineered to exploit and punish those that can not overcome that engineering.

      Bigotry and cruelty live on.

    1. @Noel Ryan You took the words out of my mouth! Was straightening books today when a mystery of the same name fell off the shelf! There must be some left. Museum? Perhaps we could borrow one? Mask filter? Past odd!

    1. How can a perfect and stable genius be guilty of shame? As walking perfection, he makes no mistakes and thus has nothing to feel ashamed about.

    1. That only works on the sheep like you and the common people that actually wear masks when feeling pressured or because of what they see

    2. @Skeptic Lies Perhaps you may want to look in the mirror. I’VE always locked at Covid as any other respiratory infection. Pneumonia is my go to. Same process, different parameters. The 6 feet is to keep us out of spitting distance. Unfortunately Covid like pneumonia travels on more smaller particulates, smaller droplets. Because of their lightness they travel farther and you don’t notice it as easily. Hence a mask to my droplets to myself and prevent me from you sharing yours because you can’t be bothered.
Now for this self satisfied hazing. When I lied to the first time, that’s my learning curve. Repeatedly following some who lied to you is just plain stupid on your part. Don’t look / listen to the made up deep state lies. He’s waiting for you to die so he can steal your shroud.

    1. He will not go easily. He will contest any votes against him. Then call his cronies and cult followers to rise up and fight. Just like all the protesters with guns.

    2. He didnt win the popular vote Him being at the oval office is only a sign that th eelectoral college has no shame.

  2. OMG have we finally gotten to the point where we have to justify a little shaming? It’s a necessary learning tool for kids, dogs, and Republicans.

    1. @Angry Bushnell very true. Nothing can be done to make those among the dark triad feel any shame, guilt, or remorse. It’s amazing how they can learn and act out these emotions to their advantage but without actually feeling them.

    2. @Patty K Did you understand what the author was saying in the article about the two forms of shaming, Patty? A form of shame, like constructive criticism, can be good if used correctly and without the intent of making a person feel unworthy. For example – a boss says to his employee, hey listen your numbers haven’t been that great lately. Is there something that can be done to remedy this? Or is there something you need? The boss is nicely stating a problem and then asking for a solution, while being willing to help. I don’t think this article actually justifies the type of shame that you were speaking of in your previous statement. That would be toxic shame. The author agreed that toxic shame is destructive.

    3. @PKay Gray I did read the article and I do have a Master’s degree in Education. Number one: It was a joke. Number two: How can you tell that I meant toxic shaming, anyway? Number 3: Condescending much?

    4. @Adam Hutcherson In the article, the writer is actually riding the fence on this issue. He calls out extremes and validates that mild, selective shaming is useful.

    5. @Patty K #1. Ok, so it was a joke. #2. It’s actually all about interpretation, regardless of how you meant it. Most of us don’t intentionally say things to hurt other people, but if we do, we apologize. #3. If I came across as condescending – I apologize. #4. Have a beautiful day.

  3. Be careful. A Michigan security guard was shot and killed for enforcing his store’s masking policy.

  4. The grim reaper costume with a Trump mask underneath would be more accurate at this point.

    1. @Lynette Wood revelations 21:11

12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

      Revelation 14:1

“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.”

So again, tell me how Godndoesnt believe in borders?

Love satan worshippers like you that think you can do whatever you want with Jesus and the word

    2. @Lynette Wood because I speak the truth its hate xD nasty manipulative people you are.

    3. @Juhad Lioness57 you people were warned I would come when you wouldnt see it or expect it but think you know, the world will feel my wrath

    1. The REAL GRIM REAPER NEEDS TO FIRE HIM AND TAKE HIM !!! Slim Shady Eminem 🤪

  5. How do you shame the likes of Trump? The weasel has no shame, no honesty and zero integrity.

    1. AMEN, Bob. So sad 5hat America ‘elected a crazed liar to President.
It was obvious to me when he campaigned for the office .
WAKE UP AMERICA..fow much of the trillion dollar tax cut did you get after you elected this sick bozo? The billionaires can now funnel the Trump ‘tax gift’ into getting him and some immoral, unethical Senators reelected, an obvious ploy ❗

  6. McConnell should quit his day job and hit the beach! Apparently he’s been invited….

    1. reporter had no mask, too close, no gloves, shared microphone-opposite of what he was promoting lol

    2. @EileenMc it’s not opposite anything. He can have a mask on and wash his hands on as he should

    1. Dan Mariano It’s not the shamming issue you have with the president. It’s the fact your candidate lost.

    2. @we mo Trump supporters are jock straps. Misplaced loyalty to president con man instead of to the US Constitution.

    3. @White Goose when an election is two white collar criminals against one another, no matter which one you voted for lost and the Goose is a looser.

    1. Here are the two ways of giving (his) apology.
option 1 (his) If, I hurt anyone who was unable to buy….
option 2 (my version of an apology) I am sorry for hurting anyone who was unable to buy…
Now I have to apologize for thinking that way, that was the old USA way of thinking.

    1. Shaming also works on people wanting to appear to be good. It’s fake, but they’ll do what’s right afterwards.

  7. Shaming politicians ,you mean those guys who beg for money to billionaires before the election ?? You can’t shame a Shameless

  8. Why is it when these people get caught doing things or being racist , they’re first word that vomits out of there lying mouth I’m sorry, believe me these people are not sorry, only when they get caught now they’re sorry yeah right.

    1. we have to see the rot in us before we see it in others.
he’s merely a mirror, as i see it
meanwhile-China presses ahead, in a tech sense, etc….
      our infrastructure is crumblin
