‘Sidewalk Con:’ Hayes On Why Abortion Law Design Is Particularly Egregious

“This Texas abortion law was crafted precisely to prevent federal courts from blocking it,” says Chris Hayes. “So, I want to take a moment and explain just how egregious this is.”

  1. So then NY could make a law allowing citizens to sue anyone possessing a firearm. I wonder how the GQP would react to that? Slippery slope Id say.

    1. @Trailin’ Annie Copy and paste, you have the same response to every comment. It’s simply reveals just how small your intellect truly is.

    2. @math science Was about to say the same thing, the thing that really riles me up is that these effectively unwanted babies will one day need a parent. Are these pro-life idiots going to take care of them? NO, once they are born, they DO NOT care. They’d rather see a child suffer all its life and leave it to the left to pick up the pieces… again.

    3. @Utha Maybe the irresponsible ‘birthing person’ should take care of the result of them opening their legs? Just a thought.

    1. This is right out of the Nazi Playbook, divide and conquer by turning neighbor against neighbor and friends against friends and a cash reward to boot for being an “informer”.

    1. @Bridget Collins hominem is a notoriously weak logical argument. And is usually used to distract the focus of a discussion – to move it from an indefensible point and to attack the opponent

    2. @Tim Handel I heard this argument before I already know exactly where you’re coming from but will gives you the right to repopulate you have children and what gives you the right to live I bet you didn’t tell your parents you should have aborted you’re happy to be alive and experience life when was the last time you had meat products you pump gas you buy things that have plastic I bet you use straws exactly exactly exactly

    3. @YOUR BANNED Poor baby.
And you think that I don’t know what it is?

See if you had facts, ethics or morality on your side, we could discuss.

      You don’t.

And when I see someone like you — an emotionally damaged person trying to extract control over other people since you have nothing yourself, I feel sorry for a child brought into a family that never wanted him.

Poor baby. It’s almost like you’re doomed to repeat the process.

  2. The single biggest problem with this decision actually has nothing to do with abortion rights and everything to do with the rule of law. After all, the very first time someone tries to sue under this law, the constitutionality of it will immediately be tested and the system it uses should be immediately declared unconstitutional due to the illegal delegation of authority that it creates regardless of the subject matter discussed.

No, the real danger here is recognizing the right to delegate authority to non-state actors while simultaneously not allowing state actors to enforce the law, if this stands as a method of enforcing laws, our entire country is doomed. Up next, California is going to ban all guns in direct violation of the second amendment by deputizing individual citizens to sue any gun shop or dealer that sells firearms or ammunition. Utah will ban all places of worship that are not Mormon by deputizing individual citizens to sue any mosque, temple, synagogue, or non-Mormon church. New York will ban Sean Hannity and Fox News by deputizing individual citizens to sue any news network or talk show radio host based in New York who says something that causes personal offense in order to sidestep freedom of speech. What is good for the goose is good for the gander but the real danger here is that this is an eye for an eye and soon the entire country will go blind.

    1. @Kell Harris it was an analogy, not an accusation. But doesn’t the Mormon church baptize deceased people, effectively converting them to their church without their approval (which is impossible to obtain after death)?

    2. @Ken Albertsen They have no interest in resigning. They are there solely to advance their own aims and those of the federalist society. They couldn’t care less about what they are doing to us ordinary folk.

  3. It opens a Pandora’s box! Trust me, this trick will be used again by others, for good but more likely bad! So much for the constitution!

    1. The use of private individuals to stifle rights. You mean like Facebook, google, and twitter stifle free speech? It’s been happening, but you all celebrated that.

  4. Seems odd that the US will engage in wars in the middle east and elsewhere purporting to promote and protect the rights of women but cannot do the same at home. How hypocritical and sadly, laughable.

    1. @Trailin’ Annie problem is..this isn’t about how much men love babies
Merely men needing to stop women from being in control of if we want to have their babies. I’d love to know what it would be like if all you men would have the children. So should vasectomyies be against the law to? Of course!!!!
That keeps a babies from being created by the same thing. Men just want to spread that seed. But ,really don’t want to be bothered by raising your children!

    2. Omg!!! Thank you so much for speaking the truth! And we go to other countries and try to talk them into a democracy..look what we have done to ours. We have become a hypocrisy of a country over the last few years we cannot stand each other anymore. How did we know a reality actor could create the falling of the United States of America!

    3. Well men shuddered at the invention of the pill and women being “allowed” to vote and to attend “university” etc. Democracy is the only thing that saved us from being Afghanastan and the Republicans are working on undermining that as well.

    4. @Trailin’ Annie you know, they don’t give cattle abortions because calves have value. Instead they castrate the bulls.

  5. Pastor Dave Barnhart – “The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. It’s almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

  6. Gracias for this hella-effective elucidation of these fascist shenanigans. It’s disgusting. It’s intricate. It’s so oozingly insidious, the way it circles around on itself, and answers only to its own power. Great Segment. Seriously taught me some things.

  7. Boy I wonder how much Dark Money was just paid in the middle of the night to the five Justices. It’s quite amazing that Collins and Murkowski believed this would never happen. Thanks so much Maine and Alaska.

    1. The Old South hiding out in the remote states, sucking down every Fed dollar they can, and washing it through the churches that elect them.

    2. Right Wingers are soooooo easily duped. Collins is the poster-girl for that. She said of Trump, when she voted in his favor during his first impeachment, “well, maybe he’ll learn a lesson from this.”

    1. Maybe if you can’t stand to look at the justices you could watch a full color video of an abortion from start to finish so you know what we’re talkin about.

    1. @Hector Heckel ~ First, prove that you’re not just another fascist Reich-wing troll pervert trying to get your sick jollies by playing stupid, Doc!

  8. As this law now has precedence at the SCOTUS, Congress or any state legislature can now take that Texas law and just replace the word “abortion” with the word “gun”. Then, anytime a gun is used in a murder, anyone and everyone that wants to can sue the gun maker, the bullet maker, the retailer, pawnshop, gun show, etc., and get that $10K. It would not be against the 2nd amendment, as these people are not going after the murderer or the gun, but rather all those that facilitated the gun being able to be used in the murder.

  9. The Salem witch trials come to Texas; I wonder how many innocent women will be hanged and lives ruined by self-serving Texas vigilante justice?

  10. The McCarthy era meets the Handmaids Tale. Welcome back to the glorious 19th century America. Unfathomable.

    1. Here’s a thought: let’s get this BS law reversed and do what we can in the future to avoid returning to the days snitching and the witch hunts that led to so many innocent women being brutalized because of hysteria.
