Congratulations to the state of Virginia for making such a brave choice being the first southern state to end the deathpenalty. Ending the deathpenalty is a good way for a civilised society to show that it has matured. You can still be tough on crime and have humane sanctions. Life without parole for the worst crimes is sufficient in a modern civiliised society.

@VietnamNeko It has been established that it costs the state more to house an inmate on death row that in life imprisonment.
It is always good to stop executing people. Life without parole is a much better sentence.
