Steele On The Politicization Of Reopening As Cases Continue To Rise | Andrea Mitchell | MSNBC

Michael Steele tells Andrea Mitchell that the politicization of the reopening push is "beyond unfortunate" as some of the decisions being made will lead to more cases and more deaths, and that despite the deep financial impact of the lockdown on workers, working conditions need to be considered and employee health needs to be prioritized. 1. Nor is he a President. Or a human being. Everyone has at least some redeeming qualities. Except Orange Julius.

    1. T C I always think of Jim Jones when I see Trump supporters buying the crap he’s peddling on a daily basis. I was in line at the pharmacy the other day. Everyone there had a mask on. He didn’t. We struck up a conversation and I asked him why no mask? He said it’s all fake. Fake news. There’s no pandemic liberals just want to win the election. That guy chugged the kool aid!!!!!!

  1. Michael Steele is one of the few SANE Republicans remaining.
Trump and the current GOP remind me of Jim Jones of Jonestown fame and his followers.

    1. @Mochap 70 Im older & proudly voted for H.W. Bush
      ( My 1st Presidental election)
But over the past 15 yrs I’ve watched in horror as the GOP
have become a Plutocracy party fueled by conspiracy garbage.

Sorry but this party needs to go !

    2. @Leo I’m no fan of Bush politically or personally but there was always a safety net the co-equal branches of government would keep America safe…..Trump has given Republicans a license to politicize every single thing and much like a serial killer has spawned copycats who will continue his nefarious plans.
I said from day one that, long term it’s about getting his crooked kids to continue his work by running for office so he can still dominate & milk America from Mar a lago when he’s 98 years old

    3. @Leo I remember the Willie Horton ad. I remember Reagan’s first speech in Mississippi. I wasn’t around for the Southern Strategy. I did look up Lee Atwater’s statement about said strategy. I remember when he was dying from brain cancer and was remorseful and apologetic when he was close to dying. From Southern Strategy to hanging chads and stopping the recount for the 2000 presidential election to swift boating, to the birther movement, is there any wonder that we are in the place that we’re in? As Hillary stated, half, only half, of Trump’s voters were deplorables-the racists, sexists, misogynists, xenophobes and bigots and people jumped down her throat. You have the right to vote for whoever you choose and by all means be proud of who you voted for, but this situation that we’re in is a direct result rooted in ideas and actions from the past. And while everyone is not racist or sexist, those campaigns came from a racist foundation and they did it knowingly and consciously. That includes HW. And for some people being racists and misogynists is not a deal breaker because those are their neighbors or parents or pastors or schoolteachers, or grandparents. We are closer because of those Republicans to civil war. We have to dig up those roots and expose them. We will no longer allow that to be buried.

    4. @Power corrupts Because what you have mentioned, deploying all available resources to help the American people defend against this pandemic, was never Trump’s goal never his agenda. We will collectively die from his lack of leadership.

  2. It’s not hyperbole. There could very well be a million people in the country that will die, due to lack of competent leadership in this nation.

    1. If 50 million people died, the lying orange puppet would be ok with that as long as he got re-elected. And His cult of followers would find a way to justify it.

    2. All the more reason this Failure-in-Chief is going to ramp up the distraction game (more outrageous pardons, more good people being fired, possibly even a Supreme Court nomination via conveniently timed conservative Justice retiring) in the next 5½ months…

    3. 240,000 will be surpassed by July (with luck to slowing it down a bit, August), and 500,000 by the end of the year isn’t outlandish. Depending on how stupid people are, and how long it takes to dawn on them that this is serious. And if a critical number of people decide it’s no big deal and continue socially mingling, we’ll see 1 million not long after that. (And sadly, Trump supporters may dig deep into stupid whether Trump wins or not in November. If he wins, they’ll see it as a vindication and double down on opening everything up. If he loses, they’ll have to defy-defy-defy to prove to themselves that they don’t listen to anyone. It’s a lose-lose scenario as “alternative facts” have been drilled into some people’s heads, and it will take the jaws of life to remove them. They are already saying the death tolls are inflated! I just had a Trumpster tell me people who died at home of the flu are being included and inflating the numbers, and THEN told me there are plenty of tests to determine if the dead bodies died of Covid-19 or not. It’s not just that FACTS don’t matter to them; SENSE doesn’t matter either! You can’t say dead flu victims are blowing up the numbers, and then say all the dead bodies have been tested to see if they had Covid-19 or not. Those two things are in directly conflict. And it won’t be long now that they will be advocating limited testing because Trump said today or yesterday that if they had fewer tests, we’d have fewer cases. The stupid hurts, and hurts BAD.)

    4. @Melayne Mills I would go for straight-up murder because they refused to take action early and have made conscious decisions to hurt those they are supposed to help and withheld supplies meant to help states on purpose to hurt certain states because Donnie wants subservience and loyalty to him and him only.

    1. I’m of a different party but I do feel there are other sensible Republicans. I know they are as shocked as the rest of us.

    1. @Fred M Liberals talking about freedom? Y’all rat on your neighbors for not wearing masks and have destroyed the economy for a series of big-pharma lies. Not to mention the deaths of despair and hopelessnenss you leftists have generated.

    2. Let`s trump that down…”statistics are overrated. You collect statistics and something happens. If you don`t have statistics, nothing happens. The fewer (he`d probably say “less”) statistics you get the more you hear what I`m saying and I know the best words. Some people say I use words better than anybody in history”

  3. Blaming is easy, Leading is hard.
“My authority is total” and “I take no responsibility at all” – words from a Fat and Lazy EPIC FAILURE with NO LEADERSHIP skills.

  4. Man of Steele.
Someone make a movie with this guy.
I like the cut of his jib.

    Older Super Hero still cares.

  5. Trump’s fake claims of Obamagate is the new 21Century version of the “Southern Strategy.” To target former President Obama and accuse him of spying on Trump, and now blaming the Coronavirus on Obama will be Trump’s distraction from the pandemic that has decimated the nation’s economy while destroying countless lives.
This is another race card ploy by Donald Trump because he knows that this reaction will strike a nerve among his more extreme MAGaA supporters along with his attempt to influence voters who have questioned Obama’s legitimacy as being an American.
His decision is politically motivated and rooted in racism, bigotry, hatred and fear mongering. As long as Trump can criminalize the character of Obama it falls in line with the general consensus within this racist society that you cannot trust any black man.
Furthermore, it’s another means by Trump to try and indirectly connect Joe Biden to Obama because Biden was Obama Vice President.
He can’t go after Biden because that situation within Ukraine of accusing Bo Biden of improprieties and corruption fell flat on its face. He was fanning the conspiracy flames back then but their was neither smoke nor fire.
And now we see Trump at it again. Fanning the conspiracy flames of Obamagate with unsubstantiated claims against the former President just as he did throughout his campaign lieing that “Obama was born in Kenya” or that ” Obama isn’t an American” or that his birth certificate is fake and that “he’s not one of us in an attempt to discredit another black guy while hoping that maybe an ember of his conspiratoeial hatred could light up a leaf or something just to redirect attention away from this disaster he’s brought upon the entire country.
The country is teethering on the brink of a Depression and he knows he can’t turn things around in his favor by November. What else is their for Trump to do, but lie his way out while blaming the black guy for the problems that continue piling up while he remains perched on his stool ingesting stool softeners to loosen the crap clogging inside the Out House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

    1. very good comment… thanks for that! I believe Trump will do anything to remain president, any means will be right because he has a mandate (not from above) … what means are left to him? War, state of emergency?

    2. Obamagate = distraction. trump just yells out Obama-anything all willy nilly because he knows the ears of the magaidiots will perk up and start repeating (and doing) what he says. Some are out yammering Obamagate yet no actual crime has been defined.

    3. Kennet Ratcliff : You have colorful writing skills. I say that with positivity. Good day sir.

    1. @Martha Martha hello , contact your local voter registration office. They will send you a form to fill out. Fill it out and mail it back. If you don’t have the mail in ballot in 7 days call them. Once you get it vote and send it back. They give you an envelope. Now the primary is June 2.. You might make it if you contact them on Monday. Every election they will mail you a ballot a month before each election. Make sure to let the office know that you want to vote that way. At least until Covid 19 is gone. Long lines , rude people and Covid 19. Why go through that. Stay safe.

  6. Open businesses when the CEO is willing to come down and shake hands with every employee who walks in the door.

    1. D best , Yes he has a pulse but it’s a little too late he should’ve been there when they were doing the impeachment hearings! They’re just trying to distance himself now so if they don’t get voted out in November!

    2. @Kathy Franklund Don’t forget Mitt Romney, he found the spine to stand against Trump. Like him or not

  7. *America, under Trump’s “leadership” has sadly admitted defeat to the Coronavirus*
    – It’s too much work for a man who usually bullies you or drags you thru the courts, both of which will not work on an airborne virus

    1. @sk8queen
Donny lets her run all over town in a cheap imported dress. Donny don’t care about her.

    2. @Fred M America is being hijacked by the mentality of some of it’s citizens; namely, Trumpers & anti vaxccers – those dismissing science, on the notion of opening up to feed/protect our families/return to our luxuries, are risking all our families to this invisible threat we barely understand

    1. @Josef How is that relevant? The only person you are making look bad with your what-about-ism is you. What ever helps you sleep at night, because we are in the middle of a countrywide carnage and the blood is squarely on Trump and the sheeple Republicans hands.

    2. @Josef
The Republicians under George Bush Jr have more than Obama but I guess that’s okay?

    3. @Eloise Hall nope, Obama has more blood than Bush does look it up buddy. Even Progressive point that out as well

    1. They don’t have to worry. I’m not going out spending any money anywhere other than the grocery every other week. I’m not even doing delivery.

  8. Only trump is politically motivated to reopen states for his reelection chances. McConnell kills stimulus packages so you must go back to work with no safely plans. Families will die, simply because trumps failures and reelection.

    1. Something else to politicize and blame anyone else for.
89,521 Americans dead from something he called a hoax – Bet he honestly sleeps like a kitten at night

    2. Next thing he’s gonna be saying that the virus was made in a lab just to bring down his illegitimate presidency

  9. Trump has ruined the country, which is what Putin wanted. That’s why Putin supported him.

    1. Trump is running the country into the ground like all his businesses. Not much will be left in this country if we don’t make a course correction now.
