Supreme Court Hears Arguments In Case To Exclude Undocumented Immigrants From Census | MTP Daily | MSNBC

  1. Constitution: “I specifically do not say all ‘citizens.'”
republicans: “Yeah, but you’re from a different time and that needs to change.”
2nd Amendment: “You mean like me?”
republicans: “Uh, er…. **pull fire alarm and run away** “

    1. @OneBigBugga freedom of speech should be limited more. Saying hateful things or incite violence should be punished. Not exclusively those alone.

    2. @Mr. White Fact check me on the numbers but I think 7 of those who convened to draft the Constitution weren’t born in the colonies that would become the USA and the same can be said of 6 signers of the Declaration of Independence. So, to your point, **most** of the Founding Fathers were indeed born in what would become the USA. Not all, though. And those ‘foreign-born’ Founders are quite significant to the debate we’re having here, hmmm.

    3. @mugwump242 while the foreign born Founders were definitely significant, they also came from the very countries they were fighting against. I’m fairly certain if we were able to ask the Founding Fathers if they were okay with immigration, they would be okay with it. Now if we asked them about illegal immigration, I don’t think it would fly with them.

    4. @mugwump242 no need to give me the benefit of the doubt and I’ll explain why. Yes, they are two different issues, but considering the Census affects the Electoral College and House seats, I don’t think an illegal alien should be in the picture when it comes to that. Yes, you are absolutely correct they are separate issues. I definitely don’t want the Census to be used as a tool to find out immigration statuses, but at the same time I do not want to have someone that doesn’t belong here to be a factor in how the country is ran.
Thank you for being civilized even though we are probably in disagreement with our political beliefs.

    5. @Mr. White I appreciate your civility as well. It’s nice to have a substantive conversation with a thinking person amid all the trolls’ screaming. While we likely don’t agree on many political fronts, I will give your point some thought.

    1. @LifeWithFrancine🍦 Well that’s for good reason, no president in history has been involved in several crimes like trump has. Even a huge majority of his administration was arrested on federal charges.

    2. Undocumented have not been included in census because they have no documentation.
      Real simple fact.

      No social security number
      No ID card
      No proof of citizenship
      No federal tax returns
      (Can’t pay taxes,
      like citizens do )

It is Wrong to use undocumented workers for government to gain money
      But leave them as illegal
Without freedom and in fear all the time
Underground, and outside of the law

I am all for if they have no criminal record in their own country
And they can be without criminal record in USA for at least 2 years
And have a regular job and residency
Then 1st let them go through the process to Legally become American Citizens
And then they can be counted and vote like an American citizen

But we don’t want to happen like Castro who emptied his jails of criminals and let them ‘escape’ to America,
And increase our crime and jail costs.

    3. Both sides need to learn to be reasonable and rational about a lot of things
      and meet in the middle
      Without the radical extremes

    1. 2 week old account says what?

People, please don’t amplify or debate these foreign trolls.

They are just trying to create divisions.

    2. Well, isn’t it convenient then that by US law corporations are considered people…
Most of the US wouldn’t know what democracy was if it hit them in the face.

    3. @A Writer
And yours is 1 month old and has somehow commented nearly 500 times on MSNBC. Throwing bricks in glass houses, are we?

  2. President-elect Joe Biden’s favorability rating has risen six percentage points to 55% since the election compared with his final pre-election reading. At the same time, President Donald Trump’s favorability has edged down three points to 42%…..OUCH 😬

  3. In normal countries you can vote when you are a grownup and have a passport, and the numbers are simply added up. Win the most and you win. Leave it to the usa to mess up the system so bad that parties can start rediculous complex court cases DURING elections. If anything these cases should be held BEFORE an election starts. Not during. simplify the system, and stop this nonsense already.

    What a crazy crazy country…..

    1. @Edeledel Edel that’s a lie………the FBI is looking into it, plus a judge in Georgia had the voting machines seized so an investigation can be done, plus the Trump team has the server’s from Germany, people died for those…….. plenty of evidence

    2. @James Burke Absolutely NO EVIDENCE you stupid moron. People died in Germany – just how gullible can you idiots be? 40 court cases and 1 minor victory in the US – Jesus you must be so stupid. Keep on drinking the Orange Koolaid.

  4. MILLIONS will be dead or homeless before we see any vaccine. Due to Congress not passing covid relief for the people.

    1. And meanwhile, ppl still voting for the same individuals. They forget their relatives and even themselves can pay fatally the consequences

    2. Correction: Due to Mitch McConnel not even willing to take up the HEROES Act, which the Democrat-ruled House of Congress has already passed, to a vote in the Senate.

    1. @Dont Care, do you know the difference between a US citizen and a Native American? I know the answer is no, and I know you don’t care.

  5. makes absolutely no sense to exclude.
the purpose of census is to get an accurate head count for people in the states. admin’s decision, whether it is friendly for undocumented immigrant or not, will falsely influenced by incorrect head count which would waste state funding and such….
why does this even go to the court…. ?

  6. Trumps last act as President might be to fly Air Force One to Russia and give it to Putin. Maybe that will wake up a few Republicans. With any luck the remaining Trump faithful followers will go with him.

    1. @Lee Whiteside Biden got 5 draft deferments himself so you might want to lose your asinine “bone spurs” crap.

  7. Surprised that no Republicans have proposed counting undocumented immigrants as 3/5 of a human being for census purposes yet.

    1. They would have if Trump had won. They have to slither back inside their holes and wait for the next racist to take office.

  8. In the 1790 census, slaves were counted as three-fifths of a person.
Native Americans were not counted at all until 1870.
The counts were used to allocate US House seats, electoral votes and funding for government programs.

Slaves . . . . three-fifths of a person? Not considered US citizens, or given citizen’s rights, just counted as a partial person to increase the representatives from the slave owning states. (Heard of the US Civil War? Do you live in an ex-slave owning State?)

Native Americans, not counted at all, not considered US citizens, despite having lived on these lands for thousands of years before Europeans even arrived here.

And now, illegal immigrants, who work themselves to death to give us European immigrants the lifestyle we feel we are entitled to, will potentially not be counted, because they are not US citizens, though many have been working hard, and legally, to gain that status for years.

    SCOTUS.

Are you going to use the same justifications to deny illegal immigrants the right to be counted in the US Census?

If you do, then the Supreme Court of the United States . . . will be become the Obscene Court of the United States.

And a disgrace . . . before all advanced and enlightened countries on this planet.

    1. Yeah, its a statue that LEGAL immigrants saw before landing on Ellis Island. Its just a gift from France…….what’s your point?

    2. @Mr. White It literally wasn’t possible to immigrate illegally until near the end of Ellis Island’s operation because those restrictions didn’t exist. And the restrictions that eventually happened were basically just an overt preference of white Europeans over everyone else, which isn’t a great kind of law to be holding up.
