It is, quite literally, basic constitutional law, and something readily understood by any reasonable legal scholar. And it’s obvious, really – if that wasn’t the express intention, then they would simply have written “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes” and left it at that. All of these people stomping about screaming “No crime! No crime!” literally have no idea what they are talking about. @Rico Von Spacewolf i was in agreement with your points. But they are more related to policies, even if they are skewing in favor to a particular group. At the moment none of those are illegal and varies state to state. Would be just easier to put all of them into laws.
I was pointing out that this impeachment as to be looked at the point of view legally. The republican are trying to turn it into a partisanship issue, which isn’t the case. If you are pro impeachment, the conversation should always be from the point of view of the current legal framework. Otherwise you fall into their trap and will just validate the republicans that see it as a partisan issue, not a legal one and they know it in order to win over the populace.
Perhaps another example would be more constructive. If someone physically assault you, he is in fault. Even if from his point of view, he argues that you’ve been stealing his lunch or flirting with his girlfriend ( wether true or you were just dating the same girl) argues that it put him under duress which justifies his actions. This is what the defense team argues, if you commited a crime, there is no moral rectitude that absconde you of it. It could be only considered into leniancy for punishment.
So, Rand Paul wants to name the whistleblower = commit a crime. If he does, lock him up.
We also need to hear from direct witnesses like John Bolton, Mick Mulvaney, Jay Suckaload, Devin Nunes, Lindsey Graham.
I’ll even trade Hunter Biden, who should be of little help, for Lev Parnas and the rest of his treasure trove of information!!
