Trump Could Lose Crucial Tax Return Case After Tough Supreme Court Hearing | MSNBC

MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent reports on the oral arguments in Pres. Trump’s fight to hide his tax and financial records on the day of historic oral arguments at the Supreme Court. Melber notes that Trump has broken with the precedent of candidates — in both parties — by hiding his returns and taking the battle to the high court. He contrasts Trump’s approach with Mitt Romney, who disclosed his records, noting “that’s why Kanye West could famously invoke GOP nominee Mitt Romney for clever tax dodging, ‘I'm just trying to protect my stacks / Mitt Romney don't pay no tax.” (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. ). Aired on 5/12/2020.

  1. Just lock him up. NOW. Before he does more damage to the US. He’s absolutely useless as president, or much else for that matter.

    1. I’m pretty the 666 thing is adopted by both sides. I had a democrat clan boy trying to get me to join the democratic clan today. He had 666 in his profile name.

    2. @frictionRx9 Aw, you really think an 11 year out of date version of his taxes proves something. How cute.

    3. Honestly if 666 is anybody’s number its Jared Kushner and his daddy and their fluff boy is Donald Trump. And you know what that means. We get treats at apocalypse of Donnie’s marshmallows which are almost ready. They’re shaped like mushrooms. Apocalypse party yaaaah!!! Dancing on corpses you gotta love simplicity

    4. Alexandra Sweet totally agree. Minimum IQ to be able to comprehend and learn is 50 I believe.

    1. @KTBFF High and his answer would be and it would precisely these words “nobody is tougher on Russia than me”. and his weak minded supporters would agree as if they just been jedi mind tricked.

    2. @JesterJames & to further complicate things, Deutsche bank issued all the loans that were only underwritten by the nefarious foreigners. (Aka money laundering)

Remember Iran Contra? The plot was complex, but it literally involved POTUS creating a secret executive bramch enforcement body with the specific intent to break the law.

But it was complicated & had no bjs.

I just hope covid19 helps expand Americans’ attention spans.

    3. @Sanctum Sanctorum fair is a cigarette & a blindfold for every quisling. No need to make them recycle blindfolds. That would be dehumanizing.

  2. When ever someone asks about my taxes, I take it to the supreme Court. It’s that way for everyone, right??!

    1. No need for anyone to ask for your taxes ever again if the Supreme Court says no.

  3. fred taught his children, they taught their children how yo hide money and scam on taxes, thats why he will not turn them over.it goes deeper in the family.DONT BACK DOWN JUSTICE KAGAN.

  4. Donnie and Romney have been “protecting their Stacks” for a few decades..Believe Me!

  5. I can’t get my hopes up anymore. It’s exhausting. Sure he’s guilty but why would he now have to pay for it?

    1. West Coast Or Bust….are you sure he’s guilty because you hate him? There’s no evidence he’s guilty, but because you don’t like him- he’s guilty. That’s called you being a coward.

    2. It’s because people give up fighting because it’s “exhausting” that wanna-be dictators become actual dictators. And, if you’re so exhausted, why are you spending energy whining on YouTube? In what way does that help hold Putin’s Orange Hand Puppet accountable?

    3. @Deplorable Centrist draft dodging is being a coward not taking responsibility for all the deaths because of down playing the pandemic is being a coward

  6. I can’t wait to see the crimes this crook has made, he’s a crook and loser who bankrupt everything he touches.

    1. YEAH AND HE’S GONNA BANKRUPT OUR COUNTRY AND GET RID OF ALL OUR DEBT. WHOSE GONNA COLLECT OUR DEBT??? THE RICH BANKERS??? GLOBAL RESET

    2. that demented lesbian Maddow already showed you lib clowns Trump’s tax returns
remember she made a huge deal about it lol

    3. Rick Barton look here stupid, why is he fighting so hard to stop them from being seen. Come on sheep listen up.

  7. Yeah..who are we kidding here…with the “Supreme” court filled with his lackey he will get away with it again…

  8. Nah ! Trump has stuffed too many of his picks into the Supreme Court who will cover up for him.

  9. If this subpoena fails, they should pass a law that statutes of limitation are on hold while a person is in an unaccountable position of power.

    1. @Lynn Kliewer I agree. I agree with the OP that a law on suspending Statutes of Limitations is not just good, but a necessity. But, the reality is that the boot-licking obstructionist Republicans in the Senate, primarily McConnell, won’t put such a bill on the floor, much less pass it.

We, the rational, patriotic, proponents of the Constitution must vote the Republicans out of office in 2020, in order to take back the country from the wanna-be Orange Dictator, and the sycophant GOP enablers in Congress.

      Vote BLUE in November!!!

  10. He says he donated his paycheck.
But our taxes are paying for him & secret service to stay at his properties

    1. More than Obama did. I don’t remember he donated 💩. Where’s he living now?? Ooh, his 25 million dollar Malibu home. 😂 Obamagate is coming

  11. we’re going to find out just how stacking the court is going to corrupt our democracy, and it’s ability to hold very connected people accountable for crimes. citizens united, stop and frisk, allowing voter suppression, this court has proven it’s in the pocket of corporations… this is a big test as to just how far to the right this court is.

  12. This involves much, much more than tax fraud and tax evasion. I’m sure this also directly ties Trump and potentially many Republicans (which is why they remain silent behind all of his continued BS) right to powerful people and highly illegal businesses in Russia and potentially elsewhere. It’s pretty clear: he sued Deutsche bank after they were subpoenaed for his bank records and that bank was already convicted of money laundering with Russia. Trump’s only tactic to delay (hopefully the inevitable) the truth behind the massive fraud he is involved with is to tie it up in courts.

  13. Trump 2012: “If Obama shows his birth certificate, I’ll show my taxes.”

Trump 2014: “If I run for president, of course I’ll show my tax papers.”

Trump 2016: “I’d love to show my tax returns, but I’m being audited.”

*IRS* 2016: There’s nothing preventing someone under audit from producing their tax returns. ”

Trump 2017: “I’d love to show my tax returns but I won’t while I’m being audited.”

Trump 01.20.17 @ 11:41am – present day and time, 05.12.20 @ 8:58pm: Fight tooth and nail with an army of lawyers in every type of court not to release his tax returns.

I paraphrased his words, but nothing out of context. What he says vs what he does.
