Trump invited to testify in NY probe. Hear what his former attorney thinks

Manhattan prosecutors have invited former President Donald Trump to appear before the grand jury investigating his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up, a person familiar with the matter said, indicating a decision on charging Trump may come soon. Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal attorney and fixer, spoke to reporters about what he thinks Trump will do. #cnnnewsroom #trump #KaraScannell

  1. When you’re invited to speak on your own behalf, to tell your side of the story to disprove the allegations made against you, and you plead the 5th, or don’t even show up at all, what does say about your claim to your own innocence?

Here’s the rub. The grand jury is obligated to “offer you the “opportunity” to speak on your own behalf.” If it was something that was only for the benefit of the prosecution, that “opportunity” wouldn’t be required.
But, you’re smarter than I am on the matter. I just feel that not taking the opportunity to tell your side of the story, which could convince the grand jury that there is not enough evidence to bring it to trial, then I guess the person doesn’t have a good case to bring in his own defense.

A further example of how I see the relationship between the (not-yet) indicted person and the grand jury invite.
      A hypothetical conversation:
Grand Jury: Thank you for coming in, Mr. Trump. The DA over there has asked us to determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence to “allow him” to bring case against you. We decide if there’s a case to be made. He doesn’t proceed without our recommendation. So, Mr. Trump, tell US why the DA should not proceed with charges against you.”
Mr. Trump: “I plead the 5th.”
Grand Jury: “Thank you, Mr. Trump. We will just go with what evidence the DA is presenting to us when considering if he has a case or not.”

Poor Donald. He had the opportunity to tell the grand jury his side, possibly swaying them to tell the DA that he has no case.

  2. Note: Trump is playing with words, when he says: “I never had an affair, it was not an affair, it was a one time deal, a bad deal.”🤭

    1. @Jimmy James 👈. B.T. Aka booger taster is obsessed with the “grandma” word. It pumps his tiny ego up for some weird reason.

    1. @Jimmy James I call BS. The level of maturity in your first post belies your claim to be a nurse.

    2. @Combat Epistemologist I’ll bet I treated you? How did it heal? Did the stitches come out OK? Remember, no rump humping for at least 2 weeks.

    3. @M Hall A first grade teacher in the Midwest is explaining to her class that she is a Republican and how nice it is that a new Republican president has taken office. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Republicans and support Donald Trump. Everyone in class raises their hands except one little girl. “Mary,” says the teacher with surprise, “why didn’t you raise your hand?” Because I’m not a Republican,” says Mary. “Well, what are you?” asks the teacher. “I’m a Democrat and proud of it,” replies the little girl. The teacher cannot believe her ears. “My goodness, Mary, why are you a Democrat?” she asks. “Well, my momma and papa are Democrats, so I’m a Democrat, too.” “Well,”says the teacher in an annoyed tone, “that’s no reason for you to be a Democrat. You don’t always have to be like your parents. What if your momma was a prostitute and your papa was a criminal, too, what would you be then?” Mary smiled. “Then we’d be Republicans.”

    1. Actually the joke is on Trump. Trump has the chance to go tell them a thing or two and clear up the matter but he would rather keep throwing verbal tantrums.

  3. Alvin Bragg needs to bring this hush money payoff not on its own, but rather as part of the larger financial crimes case against Trump.

  4. Trump ran away from the Manhattan grand jury faster than he ran away from the Vietnam Draft Board.

  5. “Please sir, go and testify. You have the best words. You’re a genius. You can nuke a hurricane. Go and show them your sharpie and grab them.”

    1. @Heywood Jablowmebro trump literally said that 😂😂😂😂then he proceeded to plead the fifth hundreds of times. Stop deflecting. Whataboutism makes u look sooooo childish and silly. “Mommy! Tommy stole cookies out the jar too!”

    2. You all just hate the man. These more to hate than trump. People on both sides are shady as all heck. I imagine the echo chamber in here loves Hillary. I dont see the differences between them…..
And on cue…. here it comes. Lol

  6. Well if I ever happen to get caught up in a prostitution sting, I’ll just say “no officer I didn’t pay for sex, I’m just paying her to not talk about that I did have sex”

  7. Yeah and now he will do 3 things.
    1) Delay delay delay
    2) Deny deny deny
    3) Take the 5th
Catch me if you can because the legal system 😞 sucks
    Oh I forgot
    4) Lie lie lie
    It comes naturally to him

  8. Don’t talk about ” potential” charges..talk about upcoming definite charges and incarceration . Yeah, let’s talk about that . It’s way past time for potential .

  9. Cohen has the truth and documentation needed to provide solid testimony, regardless of lies he may have told in a previous life. The prosecutors realize crimes were committed and should pursue the case even if it appears jail time for DJT is unlikely. They would do the same for anyone else who committed similar crimes.

    1. @Jimmy James Nope- that was an entirely different case involving a defamation lawsuit by Daniels that failed. This case has much better legal grounds = a indictment probable.

  10. Donny has a chance to speak to the grand jury! He finally has a chance to straighten them all out with the truth! Go testify, Donny! (Oh, you don’t wanna? Why, Donny? – Because they insist that I tell the truth”)

  11. It’s nice to see trump back on the “New York invite list”, and as the guest of honor!!
He’s been excluded from so many social engagements.

I can just see the front pages of New York Society papers…
” New York’s favorite son (of a beach) returns”.
    😃

  12. Invited to testify? And I suppose if he does they’ll give him the option whether or not to go to jail? It must be nice being rich.

    1. @Oska Generally a grand jury won’t subpoena the target of an investigation, but will invite them to clear up the situation, as this GJ is doing, before they hand down an indictment.
