They have Universal Health Care while we have a capitalist for profit medical system.
Yes, watching from Canada over the past couple of years has been a real eye-opener about the levels of ignorance, greed, even obesity (as a side-shocker) of Americans. We generally see only the Hollywood version of this nation, which is a complete fantasy. Trump’s insanity drew a closer look at the details and what a horrifying view of human debasement and stupidity has been revealed. A nation in rapid decline.
Agree because Congress and this President don’t believe the average citizen deserves reasonable health care. If you are welltodo you can have it because you can afford it. What they fail to understand that the tax payers pay for their access to health care.
Australia’s homeless spent the pandemic living in 5 star hotels. It was decided that it was a risk to the whole community having them on the streets & homeless shelters were not equipped for social distancing, so the government paid numerous hotels to book out the entire hotel & offered the rooms to the homeless. The vast majority of them took up the offer of free beds & meals in return for mostly remaining in their room & out of reach of the virus.
Also while they were there, charities that work with the homeless took advantage of being able to find them day after day to organise permanent community or government housing for them & actually have them fill in the required forms & then sign the lease before they lost track of them, so a lot of them are now permanently housed. I don’t think any homeless in Australia even got covid to need healthcare for it. Obviously if they had, they would have got treatment of the level trump got, all funded by the government.
EVERYONE in Australia gets all covid testing & treatment free, even those who don’t normally have health care, such as backpackers or International students who haven’t bought into health care, it’s in the whole community’s best interests to ensure everyone is covered for this! Otherwise we would have the situation the US has, where the virus got out of control initially, cause of people from China avoiding reporting symptoms, due to fear of hospital bills.
All the developed world do well on health care, not just Australia, but just thought I’d give some more detailed info, for anyone in a certain country that likes to pretend it’s a developed world country while not providing it’s citizens with the basic human right of health care
