Trump opposes removing Confederate names from US bases

President Donald Trump said he opposes any effort by the US military to rename the nearly one dozen major bases and installations that bear the names of Confederate military commanders.
US Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and Defense Secretary Mark Esper are said to be open to holding a "bipartisan conversation" about renaming nearly a dozen major bases and installations that bear the names of Confederate military commanders, according to an Army official.
But Trump tweeted: "These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a… ….history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom. The United States of America trained and deployed our HEROES on these Hallowed Grounds, and won two World Wars. Therefore, my Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations."
Army installations named after Confederate leaders include Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas and Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. Army bases across the country have continued to bear the names of Confederate military commanders even amid intense external pressure to rename them.

    1. @eatc12 We needed destroy history, but we need not keep the divisive tools around to create hatred. History belongs in Books, and schools. We can learn from it. We need not be teaching the children to hate, and showing them these “heroes” on the pedestals. They fought for a bad cause, not that they didn’t love their homeland, but they didn’t appreciate how the less of us live.

    2. @The Germanicus The rioters are fighting to have their voices heard, they have been silences, and now they are finally speaking up.
“Riots are the voices of the unheard” – Martin Luther King Jr

    3. @Patrick Finley I find myself on neither side of this conversation I can go either either here or there on whether they keep the statues to remove the statues but I would politely have to disagree with you on the idea that if you could pull them up and move them all into one location like you like you say put them in a museum I don’t think that’ll work cuz that just basically would put them all in one spot which make them easier targets for whoever would like to destroy them in a race them completely from history in existence the idea of putting them in a museum is nice but I find it actually better for that that be spread out I don’t really understand of how they would be glorified I live up in Iowa I don’t actually have the opportunity or chance to actually go down and see them to know specifically what is meant by how they glorify the southern Army I’ve never really seen in person any of these statues but I don’t I don’t think I would agree with having them put inside a museum it’s a nice idea but I think it’s bad

    4. @Elizah Williams I imagine that most of those statues put up in the South are actually distinct to each state because each one of those people probably had something well-to-do for each state I’d probably suggest you look it up I think there might be something to do that would explain that role balding around the Robert E Lee statue because he was the southern General that actually fought for them but actually we the union the American Army of the Civil War actually tried to hire him he actually fought for us but he retired and then decided he was not going to fight the only rice did fight is because his home state got involved he wanted to protect South Carolina I think that’s his that was his state that he fought for specifically he didn’t want to fight specifically for the Confederates he was trying to fight for his date specifically

    1. IKR.. yet STILL blacks vote for the Dems- the largest slave owners in history. How old was George Washington when he owned his first black man?

    2. 4skinJ the ideals of the two parties have switched over in the past century and you know this. Don’t act dumb. The ideals of the parties have changed therefore the voter demographics have changed. Dems now represent equality and justice for all and the republicans now represent racism bigotry and tax cuts for the rich. Sane people stick to ideals, not particular parties. If the republicans miraculously somehow began to represent equality and justice for all over the next 50 years and dems reverted to racism and bigotry then I would vote republican . However that’s not the case.

    3. @4skinJ Do you realize thet it is Republicans that up hold the confederate flag and have KKK voters?

    1. @Bryce Ingelsby Trump is an absolute embarrassment to the country, BUT you are correct. He was incoherently talking about America’s military successes since the naming of these places. 👍

    2. Forgive me on this, but I thought it was fairly common knowledge that the Confederates lost the Civi War. I understood that was why its called The United States, and the constitution exists. So Trump thought the Confederates won. Boy is he confused. But thats following his logic, backing losers. Oh and I know all the Johnny Rebs out there will reply with ” your the loser” and something about mummy’s basement. Go ahead, fill your boots, doesn’t bother me in the least..

    3. confederates are the ‘low hanging fruit’ – the ones they will come for first – to erase history. The Four Olds, Communist Tactics, cultural revolution – though I doubt any of the government school graduates even know what communism is or the millions it killed in the USSR and China, and other locations… The 1968 map of Beijing showing streets and landmarks renamed during the Communist Cultural Revolution. Most of the Cultural Revolution-era name changes were later reversed. The goal is to destroy society, no matter how many millions die for the effort, and accelerate change – jumping a culture ‘two moves ahead’ for the ”NEW MAN” or ”NEW SOVIET”. Erasing the past and erasing HUMAN NATURAL BEHAVIOR – maintain Socialist Distancing, Submit to the Comrade Tracers, pounding on the doors of Churches and Synagogues, demanding lists of names of the worshipers, their addresses, their phone numbers, and most frighteningly, they demand the lists of the worshipers’ children’s names too… building their data base, lists of lists – – – to what end ?!?

    4. WE should not rename ANYTHING!! Build new monuments, if you want, but leave the old ones ALONE!!

  1. This pastor gives me joy as he emphasises what is needed now, coming together to heal.
Thank goodness, individuals standing up for what is right 💕💕💕

    1. Except it’s democrats who caused the divide in the first place…
They’ve been jumping Trump’s throat for the full legislation cycle without doing any decent politics. All just Russian Collusion story and emotional this emotional that. Dumb.

  2. “It’s amazing, I can’t even believe it. I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world, it is a dangerous world out there. It’s like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”

    1. He did have a point in those remarks but in other sections of life as a president he’s totally wrong!

    1. @J Groovy black people the actual people who are impacted by the racism based off that flag and the history of it have ALWAYS been agaisnt it.. Interesting that white people who never had do deal with the impacts have never or just now ,apparently, see a problem..interesting

    2. @Low IQ Leftist Wonder why Biden went and mourned with Floyd’s family and even talked with his daughter. Yet Trump called protesters thugs

    3. WE should not rename ANYTHING!! Build new monuments, if you want, but leave the old ones ALONE!!

    4. @MJB For Trump u forgot to say the liberal snowflakes are fake news.. You and your cult brothers are kinda losing a bit of ur game.. U didnt even say bigly or huge.. Disappointed a bit…

  3. “A history of winning, victory and freedom… hmm.. but they lost. They didn’t win. They actually were going against what America wanted”

    1. No, it does not work that way! Confederate may had lost the battle, but they won the war.And the Confederate soldiers fought to protect state rights agains the Union. They intend to abolished Slavery, but ABE didn’t wanted them to. Yes, they lost the battle, but that doesn’t mean Confederate soldiers or flags can no longer be honored.

    2. Wayne Wallace no they hunted down African Americans and were a big part of the KKK wtf u talkin bout kid

    1. All kinds of companies, coporations and brands are coming out and denoucing the old south ways. The world has joined in as well.

  5. Those Confederate traitors would have smashed your great nation. There’d be no USA today if they had their way.

    1. Yes there would be it’s just the south wouldn’t be part of it and I fully support that idea.

    2. WE should not rename ANYTHING!! Build new monuments, if you want, but leave the old ones ALONE!!

    1. NEPTY Or maybe because it’s part of history. I don’t like the confederacy, never did like the confederacy, never will. But I can see the value in preserving parts of history.

    2. @Carno TV ok if your mother died from being whiped and they wave the flag of the clan that did it would you care ?

  6. Winning? He is deranged! I always wondered why people would still wave a flag when they lost the war… Strange

    1. WE should not rename ANYTHING!! Build new monuments, if you want, but leave the old ones ALONE!!

    2. To show how proud they are at being racist. Fly that flag in the hood and you’re gonna get beat down.

  7. I am a 31 year old white man from central Ohio and I will ALWAYS remember how Donny trump tried to divide American citizens against each other. Get out and vote people, Biden might have dementia but I will take him over the liar, conman donald tRUMP all day every day
