@Mark A N The medical-type masks don’t, but they do cause you to rebreathe your moisture. Respirators are the opposite, since the filters prevent new moisture coming in from the air (and thus disease particles), but allow moisture to leave with your breath through the one-way vent. Respirators thus can dehydrate you fast, while a normal medical-type mask won’t. The medical-type mask doesn’t form a positive seal around the face, but is much better at catching the droplets you exhale, where the respirator does form a positive seal to control what you breathe in, but sprays droplets everywhere when you exhale through the vent.
The more you know. I use respirators for working with fertilizer and pesticides, so I can speak from experience.
