Trump throws bipartisan Covid-19 relief bill in doubt

President Donald Trump said he is asking for changes to the coronavirus relief bill passed by Congress, leaving the future of the $900 billion stimulus in doubt.
Trump's position could threaten to torpedo the carefully drafted bill, which his own administration helped negotiate — a move that could lead to a government shutdown and send the economy into a tailspin if he carried through with a veto.
"I'm asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2000 or $4000 per couple," Trump said in a video released on Twitter. "I'm also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items in this legislation or to send me a suitable bill."
The extraordinary message came after he largely left negotiations over the measure to lawmakers and his Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Trump did not explicitly threaten to veto the bill, but said he was dissatisfied with its final state.

    1. @charlie golden But cketis those money allocations were repiblican. You lost the election so from now on prove you words and not by right wing media. Datmys of accusations and bs gone. So you agree with fraud, mass murder

    2. @Tim Thomas so to correct to you. Republicans put a bill on the table. Demos put their changes in on it to get approved which included foreign aid. To be clear if any american is ok watching a video where ballots were taken from under a table to count after everyone is sent home. That happened and your ok with that. Good with Swallwell if you know who that is.

    1. @Zteia # Yea he’s right everyone is getting our money and now, not even we can get a single dollar.. Thanks to putting revenge against Mitch above the American ppl.. He’s a piece of sh!t!

    2. @Movie Master my friend, ur at least 1,000 miles from realty. Can YOU explain how a check for 0$ with pending evictions, is better than a check for 600$ with Eviction Protection? Maybe its ME that’s missing something?

  1. We waited 6 months for congress to give us $600 and millions/billions to foreign countries. Proves who they really care about, doesn’t it?

    1. Smasher Devourer Russia Russia Trump is trying to figure out a way to drop sanctions against his buddy Putin without the public finding out. He wants a Trump Hotel!

    2. Give us back you mean. Broke in to your home and stole thousands. They then offer you a little bit of that back.

      How pathetic.

    3. @Ramp-up Yeah really. It’s not me that doesn’t make sense, it’s Don the Con. He’s never read a bill or a budget as he’s an illiterate moron.

    1. Its all money our Government is borrowing from our Grandchildren. Our Government prints money, gives billions to foreign countries, and the US taxpayers are screwed over. Trump had it right, America first.

    2. charles johnson I don’t know about U but I paid several thousand $ every year in taxes I wonder if our gov. Is going to try & make us pay tax on these stimulus checks?

  2. Trump has been calling for 1200 or more for months now. One wouldn’t know this by watching cnn of course.

    1. @Idaho Corrupt At the end of this week the eviction memorandum and unemployment benefits run out for millions of people, trump knew that, he also knew what his own party was proposing in their bill long before it was finally approved. The fact that he’s just saying something as the bill heads to his desk is straight bs. I guarantee that even if they make the changes he requests he still won’t sign it.

    2. @Chauncey W Let’s see if the Dems will compensate you for the ‘punishment’ you receive. Maybe Pelosi will ignore the threats from her Wall Street backers and force the vote on M4A so 15 million Americans who lost their health insurance can get covered again….right?

    3. @Alternative Headlines Oh my situation is just fine, but let’s not act like millions of other people aren’t getting evicted this week because trump waited the last second to refuse to sign it. The Dems have been pushing for higher rates for the unemployed, and republicans have been pushing for extra protections for businesses. That’s why the last bill that the GOP put forth was shot down, it didn’t include any additional income for the millions of unemployed people.

    4. @Chauncey W Interesting that when Dems are about to give you a shitty deal they excuse it by saying that sometimes you have to make ‘compromises’ in politics but there was no talk of compromise when Trump was willing to sign a $1.4 Trillion check at the start of the pandemic. Pelosi flat out said no compromise…simply because it would boost Trump’s election chances.

    5. @Alternative Headlines You’re changing the subject, in fact you acting like you never saw it so I’ll say it again, trump is letting millions of people get evicted right now. I don’t care what you have to say about Pelosi or anyone else, this is all on him for waiting to refuse to sign what he KNEW in advance was coming.

  3. 20+ trillion in debt and giving away more free money. That’s democracy for you. When you can vote to take other people’s money for yourself and vote to put the country trillions in debt there is obviously a huge issue. Not like voting even means anything anymore either… Libs just can’t get that human nature is stupidity and self-centeredness. Adding unnecessary government bureaucracy on top of that only compounds the issue.

  4. Drag them back to fix this bill, you guys are treasonous, that bill is real treason. Aid” to foreign countries, during an American crisis is them working for the interest of that country, arrest them!

    1. “working for the interest of that country, arrest them” Sound like >> “Q Anon/Storm Hour”<< How long you had this problem? Another Trumpist ..to go 🥱 🤔

    1. @Jeremiah S Much. The original “stimulus” package contained NO provisions for ANY cash payments to the people. Bernie was the one who fought for that money. The $600. payment was a paltry compromise.

    2. @Beach Bum You think just Bernie Sanders was enough to make a compromise like that happen? Obviously you aren’t giving others credit. And that’s besides the point of the that money not being real “relief” anyway. A lot of luxury goods got bought the week stimulus went out I heard. Just Bernie got a lot done with that investment of his time.

    3. @Jeremiah S Do your homework, and grind your axes on someone else’s time. I’m not going to waste my time humoring your ignorance.

    4. @Jeremiah S Oh you _heard?_ Rock solid evidence you got there.
Your incredulity doesn’t erase Bernie Sanders’ role in getting the American people checks, you just can’t stand that Bernie Sanders actually fought for you because it would mean that you voted against your own interests voting against him in the election.

  5. Bipartisan relief bill? Lol no. More like a perfect example of why lobbying should be outlawed,

    1. @Trump Lost but the country pays for this bill in taxes. When you throw in all this add foreign aid and do not allow time to go over 5,500 pages of horrible spending of our tax dollars. Most of the country will support it once they see corona stimulus wasnt going to the people

    2. @T0pAz Dude, Palosi is the same c#nt that rejected a 1.9T package, only to accept a 900B package 7 months later.. 🤔 huh? Not to mention, ppl just went from an AT LEAST 600$ check with eviction protection – to a 0$ check and NO eviction protection. Do u not understand bad timing and math?

    3. @Trump Lost The American people do need relief now but the bill can be quickly amended and made better for the American people if Congress gets their act together.

  6. A reporter used the words “intelligence” and “back channel.” Does he believe he covers the CIA? Stop talking over our heads.

    1. would you like a bill if you are out of ui this means maybe 300 boost plus state benefits a week.and people on claims no 300 boost and pua nothing/so it affects different people in a way not the same

    2. I’m so happy Trump has done this. Of course, CNN will lie and quote their fictitious unnamed Republican “sources” to misrepresent why Trump did what he did..but it hardly matters. At least a shitty deal is off the table.

    3. @Alternative Headlines yes but it will fail and ruin the ui eviction and ppp and other whats a small check no bill means no help this costs jobs lives and maybe 2000 ot more for ui people a mth /he made a fool of steve he wanted back a t mitch many will be homeless and your happy/ not everyone is affected im apoor seniot

    1. @AJ Ward They are 100% dishonest in their presentation of why and how it’s being done. If a dog attacks a child, and the owner says ‘Wasn’t an attack, he was just playing”, that’s a lie outright. Basically what CNN does and has always done.

  7. “They desperately need this money to put food on the table and pay rent” where is 600 going to do that wolf? No wonder you didn’t even make it to final jeopardy in your last appearance on the show

  8. Trump is exposing everything.America really needed this kind of a leader who exposed the swamp.AMERICANS today know how much they need to look into the congress.CNN shame on you.
