@Craig Smith Oh lets see….. during Carter’s administration there was the Iran Hostage crisis was the major “scandal”. However when referring to scandal in the context of this conversation – this is more referring to “anything bad that has happened during the administration” and a lot of Carter’s administration ended up having failed attempts at policy reform with regard to welfare, healthcare, and tax because Congress didn’t really like him. He was also partly responsible for the oil shortage crisis because a bill was passed to attempt to reduce the country’s reliance on foreign oil…. that went badly because the cost of oil went from $13/barrel at the time to $34/barrel. But he did have some success with other energy-related policies. And while not directly about Carter, people within his administration who had been part of scandals evidently and obviously reflected back on him since he did hire them.
No president is perfect.
Even JFK for example….. one good scandal ties him with Monroe. A bit odd to have an entertainer call your secretary and ask to speak with the President of the United States by first name…. literally saying “I need to talk to Jack”. If you’re on a first name basis with a beautiful woman, albeit, one who associates with other powerful men. Have you watched her sing Happy Birthday to him? theres video of it and its pretty telling the sort of relationship they had especially when she did it in front of his own wife….
