U.S. Covid Response Can Be Smarter Than A Shutdown: Biden Task Force Member | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

Dr. Celine Gounder, a member of President-elect Joe Biden's coronavirus task force, explains that the U.S. has learned enough lessons about the spread of the novel coronavirus that a blunt "lockdown" is not necessary when a more nuanced response can be applied like a dimmer switch. U.S. Covid Response Can Be Smarter Than A Shutdown: Biden Task Force Member | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

    1. @cybogoblin of course you provide no specific “facts”. Just spouting nonsense to “win” an argument.

    2. @If you don’t vote for Biden, YOU AIN’T BIDEN which facts were you after? We began a nationwide lockdown at the end of March that lasted until community transmission has stopped for a couple of weeks, then gradually reopened. This, combined with mandatory two week quarantine in a hotel for anyone entering the country, has allowed us to remain open.

When a case did sneak through, it was quickly identified and a localised lockdown used to prevent the spread, but it didn’t last as long, or was as severe.

Any other details you’d like to know?

    3. @cybogoblin the OP’s point is that it’s much easier to “crack down” an island nation that is largely isolated and where sheep outnumber people 7-1

    4. @If you don’t vote for Biden, YOU AIN’T BIDEN and I’m pointing out that we aren’t as isolated as some might assume. Sure, we’ve got a tourist travel ban, but we’ve had a steady stream of ex-pats returning to the country through multiple points of entry. We also had air and sea freight, and select groups of foreigners entering the country for specific reasons (film, sport, etc).

The point is we’ve taken the time to setup a unified system to manage these people entering the country. Something the US could also do if people worked toward a common goal and there wasn’t divisive commentary from the top.

    5. @DHCETC sweden is walking back those open policies. those covid hospitalizations are getting out of control. taiwan and new zealand are models. and it has nothing to do with them being islands.

  1. The dimmer switch isn’t working in other countries without firstly crunching the virus down to manageable levels.

    1. Yes exactly right. The other countries aren’t doing a full lockdown because they aren’t smart enough, but because it’s necessary. If those past 4 years have proved anything, it’s that Americans don’t exactly win the title of “smart country”.

  2. Turns out, t’rump’s plan to do nothing and hope no one notices their family, friends, and neighbors getting sick….wasn’t the best plan out there. 🤔😅😂

    1. @DHCETC NY was following t’rump’s CDC’s guidelines which said “asympotmatic carriers don’t spread the virus” which was wrong. So while the nursing homes were protecting patients from other patients, they weren’t protecting them from care workers and visitors.
You ignoring that oh-so-critical fact just exposes your ignorance at best, stupidity at worst.
Good look on you tho! 😅😂🤣

    2. @Ro G That is just not at all what happened. Cuomo for example issued a mandatory admission edict that required nursing homes to take patients regardless of their COVID-19 status. If you did your research you would know that hundreds of people with mild symptoms and those who were on the way to recovery were sent back to nursing homes.

  3. “Masked, distanced, sanitized, and at home for months”. “But alive this aloha friday and I hope many others”. “Stay Safe”.

    1. Get the messaging right? How is that possible on a network that abandoned reporting news decads ago?

    2. Yeah let’s be grateful for biden, the guy who rather live in doors forever. What a joke lmao..not even a trump supporter.

  4. Moved beyond that? FFS you mean it’s out of control! Stop people moving! That is the only solution and preventative measures such as masks, sanitising etc. listen to the real science and the countries who have successfully managed this.

  5. Check out Alito ! We have a mask mandate in Nevada and its easy team work! Casinos are economy and we could pray at home! Totally insulted by Justice Alito

  6. How hard is it to control this pandemic when we have a president promoting “herd immunity” or like I call it herd stupidity? People do not want to play chance with death.

  7. Trump completely neglected the virus. Yet he gives Biden transition a hard time. Most selfish human being.

    1. what should Trump have done? YOu think him virtue signaling with a mask while riding a bike would have stopped a virus that was out of control back in February?

    2. @DHCETC I guess we’ll never know because Trump did not do much in the beginning except run away from it like a frightened child.

    3. @DHCETC , what Trump did was to lie to us and tell us that covid was no more deadly than the flu, all the time knowing that it was more than 5 times as deadly as the flu. Trump mocked people that wore masks and held supper spreader events. Do not give Trump a pass, he is in part responsible for over 240,000 American deaths.

  8. No need to shut down.
But people need to do 2 very simple things.
Wear a mask and social distancing when go outside in public places and transportation.
    Easy

  9. Power in Numbers, Power to the People !
*****THE GOVERNMENT IS ONLY THE GOVERNMENT AS LONG AS THEY ARE RECOGNIZED AS THE GOVERNMENT THEY ARE BANKRUPT AND IN FULL VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES THEY HAVE NO ALLIES IN THE UNITED STATES OR GLOBALLY, GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES CREATE NO WEALTH FOR AMERICA****

    1. Parents that can’t stay home with their children all day and still pay their bills need a safe setup for their children’s care
