US plagued by extreme weather with heat, floods and fire

More than a third of Americans are under heat alerts from North Carolina to the Great Plains region. Yellowstone National Park is closed due to unprecedented floods. CNN’s Brian Todd reports how this type of extreme weather could become increasingly common in the years to come. #CNN #News

    1. @Marijuanifornia The most distant period in time for which we have estimated CO2 levels is around the Ordovician period, 500 million years ago. At the time, atmospheric CO2 concentration was at a whopping 3000 to 9000 ppm!
We’re at 420 ppm right now. But whatever you and nasa say.

  1. Waffling about climate change has brought us to this point. Now we’re almost past the point of reversing the situation.

    1. @Ed Harris So my question for you: who or what is causing that smog with its particulate matter?

    2. @Noe Berengena I don’t know . What were the last videos that you ever say with smog. Maybe some Olympics or something from a really really big country? One that burns huge amounts of coal?

  3. If people and governments had acted on this sooner, then maybe we could’ve stopped Global Warming from getting this far. Now it seems like the only solution is to learn to live with this weather.

    1. Could get way worse. The trajectory looks like massive global societal disruptions in the coming decades. The worse it will be unless we take action.

  6. I just feel like there needs to be a April 20th committee that looks into why marijuana isn’t decriminalized. A committee that bring us all together 😉

    1. @Andrew Cass The 13-minute, 42-second 1942 US Department of Agriculture video *Hemp for Victory* is the key to reducing unemployment, reducing poverty, reducing hunger, reducing homelessness, reducing health care costs, reducing crime, reducing police brutality, reducing government spending, reducing political corruption, reducing pollution, replacing fossil fuels, ending deforestation and stopping climate change, all at the same time.
There is an official .gov link to the film from the US National Archives. It has been public since 1990.
There was a bill in Congress titled HR 3652, the *Hemp for Victory Act of 2019.*

The USDA reported in Bulletin 404 in 1916 that one acre of Cannabis can make as much paper as four acres of trees.
Ford made a plastic car body in 1941 with hemp, and the Deisel engine was designed to run on plant-based fuel.
This means that for at least the last 80 years, we could have made all of our paper from hemp, and cars and fuel for those cars from hemp, without cutting down forests or drilling or fracking or waging war for oil, and thereby averting climate change altogether.

It is because industrial hemp can replace trees for paper and construction, and replace petroleum and petrochemicals for transportation fuel and plastic, bankrupting the timber and oil industries, that Cannabis Sativa was labeled “Marijuana” and outlawed as a “dangerous” drug.

  7. We need to plant way more trees, they cool down the area very well.
I have a side-by-side and there’s a spot on my road that is covered with Forest and the temperature when you are driving through that area is easily 10° lower than everywhere else around.

  8. Just curious: When was the last time you drove your car at night and it got covered by the smear of dead insects on your windshield or headlights? I noticed this mostly stopped more than 20 years ago in my area. My car would always get covered by “bug juice” from dead insects. No longer.

I found this quote on NPR:

“In 2019, Biological Conservation reported that 40% of all insects species are declining globally and that a third of them are endangered. And while it may sound nice to live in a world with fewer roaches, environmental writer Oliver Milman says that human beings would be in big trouble without insects.”

    2. @Juan I’m curious. Do you believe in the Trinity?

If you hear priests describe the “Trinity” you will often hear them say, “It’s a mystery.”  Cardinal John O’Connor stated about the Trinity: “We know that it is a very profound mystery, which we don’t begin to understand.”

Here’s a point to think about regarding that idea…

At Matthew 11:27 Jesus said,  “All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father; neither does anyone fully know the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son is willing to reveal him.”

Something to consider while thinking about this verse. Is Jesus saying he would leave a great mystery in his teachings about his Father for humans to debate and wonder about for centuries?  Or, rather, is he saying that he would leave no deep mystery about his Father for those whom he has revealed Him?

What are your thoughts on this point?

  9. You know since I was a tiny baby I remember it being 100 degrees or so in Alabama. And guess what! It still is.

    1. Close to putting the heat on this weak in Calgary Canada. It’s below 60f with the afternoon sun………..

These are people who cannot grasp the concept of a changing rate. Ten thousand years to warm 5 degrees, and the next 5 degrees took 150 years….and you don’t see the difference…do you?

  10. The Climate Waits for No One
Thirty years ago, a friend of mine got into the green energy business and tried to pull me into it. I asked him what for, it isn’t serious. He said, “You have no idea how much money is being poured into it. Everyone wants in on it, politicians, financiers, businesspeople, the lot.” He was right, of course. Yet, no one wants to promote green energy in order to save the planet, but only to swell up their pockets even more. The declarations, therefore, remain in the assembly hall where they are stated, necessary actions are ignored, and the climate waits for no one: It will keep deteriorating.
This week in Glasgow, Scotland, the 26th UN Climate Change Conference is taking place. Officially, it aims to “bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.” In reality, the countries plan to do the exact opposite. This year’s UN Production Gap Report, which tracks the discrepancy between governments’ planned fossil fuel production and actual global production levels, states the following: “Despite increased climate ambitions and net-zero commitments, governments still plan to produce more than double the amount of fossil fuels in 2030 than what would be consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5°C [2.7°F].”
Energy sources and technologies do change, but not according to what is best for the planet. It changes according to the interests of politicians and money moguls, and it never benefits the planet or the majority of its inhabitants, namely all of us.
Since the climate waits for no one, eventually, it will catch up with us. Earth is a closed system, and in a closed system, there are consequences to exploitation: it hurts the abuser as well as the abused.
I don’t know when or at what cost, but eventually, we will all have to realize that we cannot take beyond what we need. We cannot keep exploiting Earth selfishly and thoughtlessly because it will turn against us.
Earth is like a submarine: there is only so much oxygen on board. If some crew members take more than their quota, the rest will not have enough, they will die, and the submarine will sink along with those who exceeded their quota.
We need constant reminders that we are one system, and we are all dependent on each other. We need to genuinely grasp that selfishness hurts us just as being exploitative hurts others. If we constantly remind ourselves that we are interdependent, we will behave with more consideration, and we will avoid the punitive impact of climate change.
The other option is to keep working as the UN’s Production Gap Report states that we are planning to work, and suffer nature’s unforgiving response. I hope we wise up in time because everyone will pay the price for this mistake.

    1. wow…good post. Like the Jan 6th hearings, it is a shame those who need to read your post, won’t.

    2. @Devo “It does nothing good”. That’s why it now produces 21% of total electric generation in the US. …because it does nothing good. What are you? 8 years old?

    3. @Dan Strayer it’s 12% in the US..
And almost 50% of the green energy comes from “biomass”. Wich basically is trees.

  11. The oil companies have done this to us!!! The misinformation they’ve circulated about climate change has done this.

  12. < I totally agree with what you are saying....The fact is, BTC is the future of crypto and the questions traders ask themselves now if this is right time to invest? before jumping into conclusion i think you should take a look at things first. for the past few days the price of BTC has been fluctuating which means the market is currently unstable and you cant tell if it is going bearish or bullish. while others still continue to trade without the fear of making lose, others are being patient. it all depends on the pattern with which you trade and also the source of your signals. i would say trading has been going smoothly for me, i started with 2.5BTC and i have accumulated over 15BTC in just three weeks, with the trading strategy given to me by expert David Ribeiro

    1. Wow I’m a bit perplexed seeing his name been mentioned here also .didn’t know he’s been good to many people

    2. People like me are scared of Investing in commodities because of the rate of unprofessionals today, but this is awesome, just made a few research about him.

    3. Sure, I’m originally from spain, I and two of my colleagues gave him a try and immediately we testified he is performing wounder’s.

  13. Seems like they are constructing bridges there with clay. We had a very very huge flood in 2018 where water level rose above three storey buildings and extended for kilometers. But didn’t hear any bridges being damaged by that flood some roads got damaged that’s all.
